taskset -c 0-1 %command%
The stuttering is fixed by limiting the CPU to 2 cores. Unfortunately, the command everyone is using doesn't work on Proton 5 or older. The command I used is the equivalent for those older versions. After the latest SteamOS update, any Proton newer than 3.16 has constant flickering.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
- The purpose of
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
is to eliminate wine errors that prevent me from playing the game (error is about about line 39 of loader_thunks.c). For this case, using WineD3D over DXVK simply works. WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1
makes the game run smoothly; there's massive performance issues without it. I would call performance acceptable so far, some FPS dips.

gamescope -F nearest -S fit %command%
Stretches on ultrawide

Game is not playable from the beginning. It's recommend to tinker it to get okayish performance.
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
In some areas or battles the fps will drop to 10 - 15.
The game is playable with everything turn of in the graphic and change to 40 Hz. After this the game is running kinda smooth, not perfect but very playable.

WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 gamescope -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 60 -f %command%
Fullscreen doesn't play nice with an ultrawide monitor. Using gamescope helps.
Without restricting only two cores, the game will be a stutterfest. This didn't happen on my past Intel CPU machine.

xactengine3_7 / xact_x64 fix
Framerate in 20s and below
Tried a few of the tinker suggestions from other Linux players, but even when the game successfully boots into gameplay, doesn't perform well
Could not get past the dialog in the second area of the game
If run with default proton version game would jump from 0-20 fps and be unplayable, downgrading to 6.3-8 however it ran perfecly.
Internal Resolution can be changed by hacking the game with a Hex Editor for 50-60FPS on Steam Deck
Edit game executable using a Hex Editor
50Hz for better battery runtime and more consistent frametime
Minor graphical glitches (mostly in maps) due to hacked executable
To fix the performance issues, follow this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1745920109
This will result in some graphical glitches (as described in the post) but it will significantly improve performance. I still recommend playing at 50Hz since I had occasional stutter on 60Hz, which is lessened by reducing the refresh rate.
Despite being fully playable, due to the game rendering 1080p internally performance is shaky at best. Even a 30fps cap doesn't help much.
The game internally renders at 1080p then downscales to 720p for the Deck, making it literally impossible to improve performance or battery life.
This report was made playing several hours of in-dungeon and over-world segments.
xact_64
Using Proton 6.3-8 with the xact_64 override the game is running flawlessly.
"Launch protontricks with "protontricks --gui", select Death End re;Quest, select standard wineprefix, choose Windows-DLL and scroll down and mark "xact_x64", then click "Ok". Next select "Start winecfg", go to "Libraries" tab and add new override for library "xactengine3_7". Add and apply and close the windows."
Proton 7.0-2 worked without any tweaking, but was unplayable running at single-digit fps.
Runs, but very poorly
sub-10 FPS
With the current proton version, the game now works out of the box.
I have played the entire game with 1080p 60fps. Everything works without problems, including video/cutscenes and the achievements.
Note: Previously I have played with Proton version 6.3-8 and did the mentioned tinkering with xact_64 via protontricks. Now tinkering is not more needed with Proton 7.0-1.

Customizations: Protontricks Launch protontricks with "protontricks --gui", select Death End re;Quest, select standard wineprefix, choose Windows-DLL and scroll down and mark "xact_x64", then click "Ok". Next select "Start winecfg", go to "Libraries" tab and add new override for library "xactengine3_7". Add and apply and close the windows.
always crash on the menu or in the first game minutes
changing proton version to 3.16-9 solve the crash

Launch protontricks with "protontricks --gui", select Death End re;Quest, select standard wineprefix, choose Windows-DLL and scroll down and mark "xact_x64", then click "Ok". Next select "Start winecfg", go to "Libraries" tab and add new override for library "xactengine3_7". Add and apply and close the windows.
esync fsync could cause crashes. Game only works on Proton version 5 or lower! After Proton 6 the game might start but it constantly crashes whatever you do.
When closing the game check if the wineserver and other wine related apps have closed with it. Sometimes it just hangs them behind and you wouldn't be able to run any other game anymore!
Newer Proton versions (6.3/Experimental/GE builds) do not work well with this game!

Once you enter Settings from initial menu, the game freezes and you won't be able to advance. Restarting the game immediately freezes!
Game apparently only works up to Proton 5.0 !

Transparent overlays where causing severe graphical glitches
Opening the game settings and opening either graphics or input settings will crash the game, as well as my graphics card
Crashes after rendering a black window

Game immediately shuts down
Proton 5.13. Maybe related to Steam Linux Container Runtime since the same happens with Proton-5.21-GE-1 which is based on the same version
When unlocking the framerate, Proton runs it at 120FPS during gameplay and 200FPS in menus, while Win10 struggles to hit 60FPS consistently.

Game gets stuck at "Preparing to launch" Steam screen. But after that it works fine
Game would always crash with proton versions newer than 3.16
the game ran better than it did in windows
Proton 5.0+fsync+feral's gamemode got rid of that pesky stutter. OOTB experience, nothing to complain about!
As read in other reports - Works best with Proton 3.16-9 or 3.16-8 - Newer versions stutter a lot. It is enjoyable in 3.16-9

Requires Proton 3.16-9 Newer versions have slight issues. Game works perfectly out of the box with that version. I cannot comment on performance too much since my system is way above the recommended specs and the game is locked at 60FPS.

Runs perfectly, but in 4.2_7 has its audio cut out after a few minutes. Otherwise the performance is perfect.

It works perfectly so far on 3.16-9, but 4.2-7 gets stuck in the opening cutscene after starting the game and also has the audio cut out after some time.

Works ootb with 3.16-9. Very slight stutter for the first hour or so but has since been pretty smooth with a rock solid 60FPS. 360 Wireless controller works fine. The games resolution settings only affect window size and not internal res, but this is an issue on windows as well, hence the platinum rating.

Works fine with Proton 3.16-9.

The games runs perfectly fine out of the box with proton 3.16-9. Does not work with the more recent proton version.

Did not recognize input from steam controller. Everything else worked perfectly. Game would only run on proton 3.16-9 from what I tested.
