This port isn't the greatest, but it works pretty much perfectly on Linux.
As others have noted, the game boots straight into gameplay, and you have to finish the tutorial before being able to go into the settings to change the game's resolution and windowing mode. An annoying decision, but there you have it.
This port unfortunately has problems. And while it's a shame that such an all-time classic didn't receive some more love, none of the actual issues are related to Linux/Wine/Proton. And even with all of its issues, this is still a super fun game that works out of the box on Linux.

I had no issues with the game after 5 hours. It works well with default settings.

The game starts in windowed mode by default, you can set the game to be fullscreen by default only after you finish the tutorial sadly.
Game occasionally crashes when entering water, reason unclear

The intro will always be deafeningly loud despite turning down in-game audio.
It is worth noting that the 30 fps lock is intentional despite being a complete remake of the original game.
It's not a particularly well done version, as others have noted, but it does run fine.
Works fine

Not launching
Tried to launch the game without success, steam keeps executing it without poping any new window, even tried to reinstall the game, and I couldn't until I ereased the game folder and then uninstall it.
Katamari Damacy REROLL plays perfectly with Proton, so the only frustrations you'll experience is from the game's difficulty itself.
Proton
I'm shocked at how well this game plays, even on my old PC. It even loads levels faster than my Nintendo Switch! (How pathetic.) No stuttering, slow-downs, crackles... just a really good optimised game.
Btw, even the dreaded 'windowed mode tutorial' wasn't even that bad. I don't know if it's due to being on Mint, or my current Stream settings, or if I just have a smaller monitor than most people, but my windowed mode was not the stamp-sized thing that most people have complained about. Mine was rather large, almost fullscreen sized.
No issues
Can only enable fullscreen after completing the tutorial.
Unfortunately the actual gameplay is capped to 30 FPS (some parts like UI elements are at 60, but not the game itself), which makes it pretty choppy, but that's not a Linux issue, just a bad port.
Fantastic experience on Steam Deck.
Battery consumptions is around 9 to 11 Watts.

The space background looks like a garbled multi-colored mess instead of plain black as it dd on original PS2 hardware (same behavior as on Windows).
Works perfectly, no issues whatsoever.
Not a single problem on Proton 7.0-1.

For a game with as much personality as this one, the lack of audio significantly decreases the experience for me.
Zero audio whatsoever
For anyone confused on how to enable full screen, you must first complete the tutorial mission. Once you are placed on the globe, navigate to the settings (I forgot which thing on the globe it is) and you'll see the option there. It's not an issue with Proton specifically, just poor design.
Works fantastically, slick and responsive.
Runs exactly as expected
I'm surprised how well this works, out of the box!
Finish the tutorial, then on the planet go to screen settings and choose fullscreen. It's more on the game side rather than Linux.
Prefer a Joystick, again this is not a problem with Proton. It's a recommendation. Since Keyboard works weird in this game.
Only had one minor crash in 6.3-8, moving to 5.13 and never had an issue since then, controllers work perfectly too.
Aside from a few issues (possibly not even Proton-related), the game ran perfectly.
As other reports have mentioned, fullscreen isn't possible at the beginning of the game. After the tutorial you can access the options menu in order to change to fullscreen. No issues after that.
For most sessions the controller worked fine. A few times I started up the game my controller (8BitDo SN30 Pro+) was not recognized at the initial screens but became recognized after I loaded my save using the keyboard.
as good as this garbage port runs on windows
Works right out of the box
Will start in windowed mode which is only an issue on tiling WM's. You will have to finish the tutorial (on a new save) and then change it
fullscreen like everybody else says DS4 worked over BT flatpak version didn't work default repo worked for me with experimental proton.
Works like on Windows. Starts windowed, but can be changed after tutorial.
Good!
Cannot use controller to select when loading a save from the menu. Other than that, controller works.

Runs perfectly except for the brief fullscreen issue at the very beginning of game
As other reports note, game will initially run in windowed mode until tutorial is completed. After that, all graphical options can be changed, and fullscreen works fine.

Like others said, fullscreen doesn't work until you finish the tutorial. After that works flawlessly. My DualShock4 worked perfectly fine.
Controller needs to be plugged in before game starts for it to be detected.

Runs perfect out of the box
The installation time took quite a bit for the "first-time setup," however it ended up working perfectly. The game is limited to windowed mode until you finish the tutorial, which others have mentioned, however it works very well in every other way.
Played with x360 controller no issues - starts in windowed mode but can be changed
Beat the game with no issues using Xbox One controller. First boot is windowed which can be changed to fullscreen after the tutorial.
Runs perfectly.
Game starts in window mode the first time.
Can be changed after the tutorial in the settings.
