make sure to get the chronicle pack dlc and start the game with new game chronicle

Installed Melonloader and finished the rest of the installation with Melmel's settings, not sure if the game gets past the tutorial without those
The game's audio is full ps2 compressed, install a mod to make it listenable. Not a linux issue.
Game is locked at 30 fps, install a mod to fix that too. Not a linux issue either tho.
FMV cutscenes will display a TV colour bar image if running with proton experimental, and the game freeze at the start of the cutscene at the end of normal tokyo if running normal proton, not sure if the others would work without it, but i doubt.
Wasn't able to make the FMV cutscenes work even with mods to replace them, most of them are transitions between not-prerendered actual cutscenes, like in the labyrinth of amala, but consider watching the few real prerendered cutscenes on youtube

Tried to play it without realizing cutscenes weren't working. Took a while for me to fix it, but a clean install with GE8-14 finally worked. I haven't installed mods yet but they worked before I reinstalled the game, so they probably will still work.

This game works out of the box on vanilla Proton 9 these days, but I *highly* recommend the fixes described below.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dobby,version=n,b" %command%
For the best experience, you're going to want to set up some of essential mods. Doing so can take a bit of tinkering, so just follow the steps described below:
- Run the game once first to set up the prefix correctly.
- Download MelonLoader.x64.zip HERE.
- Extract zip file contents straight into the top-level installation directory.
- Set WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dobby, version=n,b" in the launch properties of the game.
- Install .NET 6 with
protontricks 1413480 dotnetdesktop6
(this installs both the x86 and x86_64 builds). This is required for MelonLoader to work for this game. - Run the game again. A Windows console will pop up, It will take a while to generate the IL2Cpp interop assemblies needed for the mods, be patient. Close the game again after it launches successfully.
- Download graphics config mod HERE, extract the .dll file into the “Mods” folder that now sits in your game installation folder. This mod allows the game to run on non-standards aspect ratios and at a framerate over 30.
- Run the game again. It will now automatically set the game’s frame rate to your monitor’s refresh rate. If you want to change it, edit the config file that’s now in the game’s install folder (NocturneGraphicsConfiguratorConfig.cfg), or just use
DXVK_FRAME_RATE
to limit the frame rate. - Download the HD Audio mod HERE and follow the instructions included with the download (nothing Linux specific).

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dobby, version=n,b" %command% (This is for when MelonLauncher is downloaded and installed.)
For MelonLauncher, I needed to install dotnet desktop 6.0 x64 for compatability to the prefix.
Save rooms would need to be alt+tab'd to load without MelonLauncher.
The game would suffer from small hangs when interacting with demons. Without having MelonLauncher installed, the game would need to be alt+tabbed in order to progress save room loading, fountains, shops, and fusion rooms.
Denuvo would stop the game from running if versions of Proton were switched too frequently with a vague error leading to a codefusion website for an unspecified cooldown period.
FMVs would not load from Proton 8.0 and under.
Some people claimed GE Proton 6.8 with 1.45 DXVK would be the ideal way to run the game without the save room bugs, but I was unable to even get the game to boot with these used together.

Audio would occasionally start crackling and slowing down after resuming from a suspended state. Closing and opening the Steam Deck once or twice would fix this issue.
At the very start of the 4:3 movies, there would be static for a few frames, and then it would continue without issue. I had 2 occasions when the movie wouldn't work at all, go to the test image, and skip to the next scene. 1 of the movies was repeatable, and worked the first time viewing it, but didn't on following viewings. An unrelated reinstallation of the game seems to have fixed the issue, and both movies worked. The game will also occasionally flash black after interacting with cache cubes, chests, or NPCs. This didn't seems to cause any other issues.
Was playing on Experimental, and thus stuff might change. Switched the display to Fullscreen.

We Launched the game but it comes up with a "No GPU Found" error.
we tried verious versions of proton includeing GE, and a few launch options but still nothing. Im assumeing it is a intel GPU hardware issue because we tried the game on another much newer laptop and it worked perfectly. Mabey we are missing something, but dispite the tinkering, we got nowhere. so we are just assumeing this old laptop can not run it.

Used some proton versions. Experimental works fine. Fullscreen and borderless can freeze the entire screen but being windowed will not.
When moving through menus. It would give som artifacts
When fullscreen. It would completely freeze. Windowed took it out

So far all good, apart from audio crackling after suspending the Steam Deck. Cutscenes played with audio, no need to tinker there.
Audio crackles after suspending Steam Deck

Weird artifacts appeared on my other monitor in Hyprland when I fullscreened the game otherwise game looked fine on the monitor I was using to play the game
If you're using hyprland expect some graphical glitches on secondary displays otherwise the game will run as expected

Use Proton GE 8.25 or later and you should be fine. Last time I checked, movies didn't play without either this or some other adjustment.
- Some flickering in fullscreen, regardless if v-sync is enabled or borderless windowed is used.
- Borderless mode does not allow for non-native resolution from menu
Played a few hours with the uncompressed soundtrack mod. Additional launch options not necessary.
FMVs might be easier to get running on more recent versions of vanilla Proton, either through direct support or file replacement.

Fixed button prompts, compressed sound with mods
Some buttons prompts are incorrect, installing Controller UI Overhaul from GameBanana fixed all prompts providing options for most controllers

Videos may play without audio, the launch option included in this report should fix it.
Some videos have visual corruption at the start of playback. The severity varies by hardware, but the videos should play normally after a second or two.
Vsync can cause flickering in fullscreen mode when loading a new area. Disabling vsync fixes the problem.
Dualsense controllers may not be detected on first launch, relaunching should fix them. I do not have other controllers to test. Steamdeck built in controls and keyboard and mouse should always work.
Mods also work with limitations, see Linux modding guide on Gamebanana.
Runs perfectly out of the box

GST_PLUGIN_FEATURE_RANK=protonaudioconverterbin:NONE %command%
Audio missing in videos unless you use the launch command
Videos don't work with stock config

Use the audio decoder argument to fix the sound during cutscenes.
Confirming previous report after game completion:
Installing and running the game with 6.21-ge-2 fixes all issues. Modern versions of proton either cause a blackscreen during cutscenes or play the cutscene with no audio
Installing and running the game with 6.21-ge-2 fixes all issues. Modern versions of proton either cause a blackscreen during cutscenes or play the cutscene with no audio
You have to put up with some bugs if you want to play this, but since it's a turn-based game and crashes are rare, you can make progress.
frequent temporary freezing that rarely results in a crash
some scenes take a while to load when they are instant on PC (like starting a fusion), all cutscenes frequently stutter
Have tried many versions of proton including ones mentioned as working by other users, yet all the problems mentioned here persist. If the initial loading screen stays black, pressing A should get you to the menu.

Game runs like it would in windows. This isn't the best port so anything you might notice could be the port itself (ex. Battle music is heavily compressed)
Refuses to get past the initial black loading screen no matter how long I wait. Tried many different proton versions to the same result.
Tried multiple proton and GE versions
The game runs perfect without any changes but FMV cutscenes will not play video, only audio. Switching to Proton Experimental as of October 1st, 2022 seems to play the cutscenes without problems.
Very very rarely the game will freeze but audio will still play. Not a common occurence but it does happen, so make a habit of saving the game at every chance you get to minimize potential loss of progress.
My KDE Plasma topbar would flicker through the window occasionally, regardless of borderless windowed or exclusive fullscreen. Likely a game bug with fullscreen, unknown if something similar happens on Windows or other DEs.
Dualsense controller does not always connect, relaunching with enabling or disabling steam input can make controllers work again. Unknown if other conrollers have connection problems.
Videos would not work without Proton-7.1-GE-2
Tried multiple different compatibility tools such as proton ge 6 and 7, proton experimental, proton experimental bleeding.
Use Proton-6.21-GE-2 instead, works perfect with it
Does not work with default proton or experimental at the time of writing.
The game works well when running under Proton 6, but with Proton 7 and beyond, even GE-Proton7, all prerendered cutscenes are glitched.
Everything works well on Proton 6.21-GE-2, starting from 7.X version there are some video glitches in cutscenes
Works very well
Playing with the same version of proton-ge that I used for Persona 4 Golden. Runs as expected. Older versions of proton has some missing texture issues, but those seem to have been fixed. No issues to report.
Game runs amazing, using proton GE 7.x turned the video into yellow blocks, proton GE 6.21 fixed the issue
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Runs amazing with proton GE. for some reason using valve proton versions made the game run at 1 fps and not go past the initial loading screen. Installing existing mods was also very easy and no tinkering was necesarry except for the 21:9 fix, which includes replacing a dll or hex editing it yourself and changing the scaling settings in nvidia xserver
Cutscenes are just long colored stripes across the screen. Text and gameplay displays perfect though.
The screen shows a blue void while talking to the soul people, some particular zones like in Shibuya District and parts of the hospital. Basically zero visibility. But, it can be somewhat fixed using Wine3D, it shows a blurry dark image but you still can see a little.
Game sometimes starts like any other window in I3WM just not in Fullscreen, but it's rare and when it happens I just toggle fullscreen manually from my keyboard.
A minor detail, the cursor flickers bad.
Take in mind my hardware. 7.0 and up might have fix all of those issues, but my laptop it's not really capable of rendering properly, it lags like crazy.
Videos on 6.3.8 don't work, it doesn't really bother to me for now.
Everything else works perfectly; controllers, sound and performance.
Window behaves weirdly in Main Menu
Cutscenes are broken
Performance dropped to 1 fps in settings, then froze. May be due to mods installed

Mouse cursor isn't always hidden when using mouse to move camera. Sometimes escapes the game screen (in multi monitor setups) and causes me to switch to another game. It's a very minor issue, considering gamepads are the optimal input device for this game.
When I first tried the game, I would get placeholder videos instead of steams re-encoded videos. This issue has now been resolved, and I can play the game as intended.
Valve fixed this game, it's working pretty well now. Was pretty out of the box for me. Not even save room bug anymore!
I used to have some pretty major problems with this game performance wise months ago but those have since been solved and it now runs perfectly.
Can confirm it is working flawlessly on Proton-6.16-GE-1. Freezes while entering rooms have disappeared.
