The game runs very well.
Non-fullscreen modes result in much higher stuttering. If the game in fullscreen mode, it switches to a non-fullscreen mode every time the game's window looses input focus.
Native version = No audio. Proton emulation = The whole machine crashes
Game crashes the whole machine (Chapter 6: Ascent)
Performance is on par with Windows 10. vkBasalt's CAS sharpening enhances image quality on a 4K display with 1080p (50%) in-game rendering.
vkBasalt needs tweaking in order to work with Proton 5.13-2
Uplay overlay does not render correctly
Unsupported graphics driver notification. Shift+F2 does not work.
Alt-Tab: game crashes
Al+Tab crashes the game
UPlay settings is unresponsive
Unsupported graphics driver notification cannot be disabled.
Shift+F2 does not work
Alt+Tab crashes the game
Game completely freezes after 3 minutes of gameplay ("kill -9" is necessary). UPlay settings is slow/unresponsive.
Performance is on par with Windows 10. vkBasalt's CAS sharpening enhances image quality on a 4K display with 1080p (50%) in-game rendering.
vkBasalt needs tweaking in order to work with Proton 5.13-2
UPlay does not launch the game on the very 1st run
Uplay overlay does not render correctly
Runs mostly without major issues, except that it sometimes crashes the whole PC
Multiple whole-system crashes per hour in some regions of the game
Random system crashes: Save your work and close non-essential apps before launching this game.
This is a very long game (150-250 hours to full completion), and quite repetitive. Think twice when deciding whether to start playing this game if you are a completionist.
Game stopped rendering (permanently freezed) two times within one hour of gameplay
"Failed to compile global shader" error message
It would be better if the game didn't require winetricks
A notification window appears (about a missing Windows library) and the game doesn't start.
Machine's libopenal.so.1.22.2 is in conflict with Steam's libopenal.so.1.16.0
Machine's libopenal.so.1.22.2 is loaded by the ELF loader instead of Steam's libopenal.so.1.16.0 and this causes the game to SEGFAULT immediately after the initial setup window.
The game is playable [on my Gentoo Linux machine] only if Steam is started with LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing to a directory in which libopenal.so.1 is a symlink to Steam's libopenal.so.1.16.0.
Both the game, as well as the whole Steam app, crash after the game's settings window.
Game doesn't start and crashed the whole Steam Client app.
Starting the game again is impossible after it updates the 2K Launcher to version 1.6.0.4243
"Fatal error" after a few minutes of gameplay
This game doesn't have a difficulty setting (Easy, Normal, Hard) which is unfortunate for first-time players. Difficulty can be lowered by enabling the Assist Mode.
If a gamepad is disconnected and then reconnected during gameplay, the game doesn't register the reconnected gamepad
The game needs to be restarted when a controller is connected during gameplay.
Requires open file descriptors limit of about 16384 when starting (ulimit -n).
Missing cutscenes
Videos do not play
Some stuttering when crossing regions despite being installed on an SSD
%command% -offline -skipintro -RenderProfile_MaxFPS 60
Try entering the following prompt in ChatGPT-4o and then follow the printed instructions:
Manual patch for "Blood Dragon Service not available"
You can use the 'ghex' utility to edit the DLLs, press Ctrl+F to find a hex sequence.
Avoid using AIs that don't display the full hex sequences, and AIs that are suggesting to download DLLs from the Internet which may poison your machine with malware.
Unable to change graphics quality settings
Game crashes in the settings menu, graphics quality settings cannot be changed
Fully playable, but frequently crashes in the game settings menu
Electronic Arts (for example: Jedi Survivor) should learn from Sony PC games what the meaning of a flawless game experience in Linux is.
Game completed in 9.4 hours. Built-in AMD FSR works well with a 4K monitor.
The game works without issues.Supports FidelityFX Super Resolution. I was using vkBasalt CAS Vulkan layer to sharpen the image.
Gamepad vibrations seem to be working with Steam Beta client only
Audio in native Linux version no longer works correctly, switch to Windows version of the game and Proton emulation
Audio in native Linux version (vulkan_beta) no longer works. Audio works correctly with Proton.
Game's window needs to be minimized - otherwise it will receive all mouse clicks despite the fact that it is being displayed on another X11 virtual desktop
This game, released in 2015, works very well with modern GPUs. On my machine at least, using 3840x2160 rendering resultion with Very High graphics setting, VSync enabled and GPU TDP limited to 110 Watts (via rocm-smi
command-line tool) results in just ~75% GPU utilization.
In all game sessions I have played, the Game freezes after approximately 1 hour of gameplay.
- Game is incapable of properly handling its VARIABLE VSYNC setting
- In-game automatic rendering quality configuration is unreliable
- protontricks doesn't fix audio issues
Game requires multiple start-forceStop-start-forceStop-.... attempts
Runs without major issues
Occasional polygon rendering issues when viewing the space station from outside.
Some bugs in the game's logic require restarting the game from a savepoint.
ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Proton (Windows emulation) version works better than native Linux version, and supports side-by-side stereoscopic 3D
Shift+Tab (show Steam overlay) crashes native Linux version of this game. Making screenshots is impossible in the native Linux version - screenshots work without any issues with Proton Windows emulation of this game. Shadows are being rendered incorrectly in side-by-side stereoscopic 3D mode, so it is better to turn shadows off when using this mode.
Fully playable, but only with Proton-GE and only with occasional deletions of the compatdata folder
MANGOHUD=1 %command%
The EA app usually crashes when exiting the game and sometimes fails to upload a local gamesave to the cloud
Displaying the game's settings menu during gameplay results in framerate slowdowns of up to 80%
Switching/upgrading Proton versions requires deleting the "compatdata/1172380" folder
The game sometimes locks/sinks into a state in which it keeps exiting within 1 second after it is started. This issue can be resolved by deleting the "compatdata/1172380" folder, which will force a reinstall of the game's Windows/Wine files.
Brightness doesn't work correctly in fullscreen mode
Every time after launching the game: 'Dynamic resolution scaling' and 'Max FPS' have to be changed between Enabled/Disabled and 60/90 in order for dynamic resolution scaling to start working
The game runs very well, although it requires at least a 12GB GPU in order to avoid stuttering in levels such as Dathomir. If on an 8GB GPU, some stuttering can be avoided by putting "dxgi.maxDeviceMemory=4096"
in file "/home/steam/jedi-dxvk.conf"
and launching the game with "DXVK_CONFIG_FILE="/home/steam/jedi-dxvk.conf" %command"
.
The games lanches through the EA App which has very poor compatibility with all versions of Proton
Clearly noticeable white patches flashing in darker areas
Cloud saves are unreliable
Game has VRAM management issues. Partial workaround: Put "dxgi.maxDeviceMemory = 3840" in dxvk.conf
The probability that the EA App successfully launches the game is less than 15%
Raytracing: The game requires Mesa 24.0.1 or later - otherwise it will crash on AMD hardware because of GPU page faults (in-game location: planet Koboh)
Game doesn't start.
DX12: Does not start at all (exists after the initial menu).
DX11: Exits after the initial screen.
Game is unable to correctly detect VRAM size, which leads the game to use lowest-resolution textures in some places (for example: road signs). This issue can be resolved by adding WINEDLLOVERRIDES="amd_ags_x64.dll=b" to game's Launch Options.
Slightly slower FPS in Linux compared to Windows
Does not start at all with Proton 5.13 or 7.0. Starting the game crashes the entire Steam app.
Windowing issues when launched in DX12 mode
Switching to another window and then returning back to the game's window decreases FPS by 40%
Works in DX11 mode with GE-Proton7
Runs perfectly except for: some invisible monsters, framerate drops caused by shader compilations, trees shake too much.
Native Linux port no longer works (missing shared libraries) - Proton works without issues
UI elements appear outside of screenspace. Select build743.0 in order to avoid this issue.
Electronic Arts (for example: Jedi Survivor) should learn from Sony PC games what the meaning of a flawless game experience in Linux is.
Missing videos
The probability that the game makes it past the EA launcher is approximately 15%
Requires deletion of the ".../compatdata/1225560" folder in order for the EA launcher to reinstall itself
Cloud saves do not work (EA app)
The probability that the game makes it past the EA launcher is less than 10%
Completely_black polygons are being drawn in a very small percentage of rendered frames, however this issue is almost unnoticeable during gameplay
Switching to another virtual desktop in Linux (and then switching back to the game) while the game is playing a cutscene results in a completely blank screen until the end of the cutscene
Stuttering at the start of levels and in new game locations, probably caused by Mesa shader compilations
The game was playable with GE-Proton7 [on my machine] without any issues, except for fairly frequent frame drops. In terms of gameplay experience, this game is [rightfully] considered to be the worst game in the 'Wolfenstein reboot quadrilogy'.
