Cannot play, Assertion Failed error / mouse pointer crash.
No videos showed up even after re-installing the game entirely, removing the compatdata too.
If you don't mind playing no BattlEye servers or single player/non-dedicated then it will be fully playable.
Fullscreen can sometimes lock the game to really low frame-rates (20-ish). Restarting after applying fixes this.
Many changes are needed to the base control scheme to allow this game to be full playable on Deck.
Expect to use community layouts for controller support.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Unplayable.
Stuttery mess.
Froze after 1 minute.
5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Missing videos, MF hack will fix.
When in fullscreen you cannot change resolution, windowed and windowed-borderless work flawlessly.
Instantly got an Out-Of_Memory Crash on launch.
Proton 5.6GE-2
mf-install and mf-installcab is required to get it playable. use -notexturestreaming in the launch commands via steam to stop the stuttering. (will need a ton of vram for High or Ultra)
5.6-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install and https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab are required for videos to work.
Characters will get stuck on audio clips that use characters outside of the scene or voice clips that characters talk back to. You will need to go to the main menu and go back in to fix.
You will need https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install and https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab for videos to work. There are tutorials online to install these scripts. To fix performance issues I set these as my launch options on steam for borderlands 3; PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgamemodeauto.so PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 -notexturestreaming You will need Gamemode also to get an extra 5-10fps. https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode With all these you can get this game to run just as well as windows if not better. This will maybe only effect NVIDIA users but be sure to give this a try on AMD!
"Steam needs to be running to play this game." Dialogue.
Doesn't boot past the launcher because Steam "isn't running" apparently when running it direct from steam.
Possible to play through the entire game, zombies and multiplayer. But this game has a dead player-base.
Disable Sun and Spot caching. High Textures uses WAY too much vram (to get high textures you need over 8gb vram.) Disable shader pre-loading in-game since steam uses it's own. 6GB VRAM users: Very Low or Low textures. 8GB VRAM users: Low to Normal Textures. 24GB VRAM users: High Textures. Frame-Rate is really good however.
Constant stuttering too.
Crashes in Campaign after 30-60 minutes (Playing survivalist difficulty.)
Please follow the guide that's here whats right for you since running this through proton is a stuttery and vram mess. Only play this game if you are interested in the campaign or playing zombies alone.
Pretty playable experience if you can avoid the black textures on player models.
Player Skin has black stripes
20-45Fps drop
Black textures, you need to use protontricks 253430 xna40 to fix these textures.
You need XNA40 to get this game to run smoothly and an fps lock to fix mouse inconistancy. Use protontricks 253430 xna40 in the terminal to fix most issues.
Steam says it is still running but it doesn't show in SteamVR after the black screen.
Crashes on Origin store.
Runs but needs to run via origin which crashes.
Severe performance hit. Playable still.
kernel32.dll can be found in /steam/steamapps/compatdata/1282690/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64
5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll's Latest Proton build.
Very minor Audio drop-outs/fails for sounds when tons of stuff is going on.
Fullscreen cannot use high refresh-rates, borderless windowed works flawlessly.
Game is fully playable with multiplayer as long as you select in the beta channel legacy-evolve and you need to own the base evolve game.
5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Strangle is used for capping framerates, use mangohud if you wish. Custom Proton Version is required for ASYNC to work, makes shaders black until they are compiled, causes near to no compile stutter. MANGOHUD=1 strangle 240 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 DXVK_HUD=compiler DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Can be fixed with, PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60
Use the legacyevolve beta channel in properties. You either need the Base Evolve game files or the Evolve Founders DLC to download the legacyevolve.
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Black screen using default proton.
protontricks 8190 d3dx10 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47
You need a cracked .exe to run the game, other than that fully playable.
Use "strangle" command to fix stuttering. Limiting FPS helps a lot.
Very frequent stuttering.
Stutters when looking around in a 3rd person shooter. Borderline Unplayable.
Severe Stuttering when looking around. (on ssd)
Extremely laggy borderline unplayable.
Runs near Windows-Like and supports Gamepad's via Steam Play (automatic)
Play in Borderless Windowed and you can Alt+tab out of the game.
Near perfect experience. Videos are still half-broken using proton 5.8-ge-2-mf but game is fully playable.
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom To install goto "home/UNAME/.steam/compatibility.tools.d" or "home/UNAME/.local/share/Steam/compatibility.tools.d" and extract the proton-ge there.
Videos don't crash with the custom proton version but cause artifacts instead. Game is completely playable and you won't miss out on much playing it on linux apart from videos which is really rarely needed in this game.
The custom proton fixes random crashes you would get if you play 1-4 hours non stop.
If you don't mind 15-25 fps (depending on cpu) then it is fully playable until the end.
Xbox 360 controller not detected.
Very High CPU Usage caused either by AI or Grass triggers or animation. When game is paused it shoots back up to 145fps+.
I hope this frame-rate issue gets resolved, seems to do something how the grass works and it makes too many calls and DXVK can't keep up.
Works way better than a *year* ago.
10% cpu performance decrease.
One year ago you had to tinker with a ton of commands, limit your fps so the game doesnt crash from gpu error, videos wouldn't work either.
But now The game is completely playable without interfering from gameplay, I ran the game overnight for 8 hours at 30fps maxed to see if it crashed and it hasn't.
Very pleased that this works way better than it did.
Game is nearly unplayable since you crash when traveling to new planets.
Crashes when warping in spaceship.
Playable but I couldn't get voice chat to work at all unlike a few people using Proton too.
Voice chat, talking to friends did not work, I couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear me. Voice Recognition did not work either.
Fully-Playable, you don't need to talk for the spirit box to work.
Voice chat is a overall game problem but it works in linux when it does work, Voice Recognition is not here but using the spirit box you don't have to ask questions for it to work. Voice Recognition isn't possible on Linux due to us not having cortana or Microsoft Speech Platform and this is required to say the ghosts name, trigger words to make it angry on purpose or the ouija board. As long as you are playing with friends and they know your voice recognition doesn't work then this game is ENTIRELY playable on linux.
Game's fault with crashes, my friends on Windows 10 crash sometimes too. This game right now is in Early-Access so crashing is near normal across platforms.
The main reason why you don't need to talk for the spirit box to work is that it will be also borked on win7 and win8.1 and then the game won't be playable if you can't talk even on windows below 10.
Resonite freezes and locks up inconsitently.
ALVR and Quest 3 were used.
Great experience.
Lots of particles cause significant framerate issues.
Runs near identical to windows.
Framerate Drop with death animation.
Runs great, fully playable.
Lower performance when using Medium-ultra PostFX settings.
I've heard that native vulkan support has been added to the experimental beta branch, eventually the performance bugs will be even between platforms when the update is fully released.
Text chat is hard to use because of the slow Deck on-screen keyboard. You can't see what you are writing.
Requires xna40 via protontricks to work. Runs flawlessly.
Run in terminal, protontricks 347600 xna40
Works flawlessly, just like windows apart from compile stutters which go away after 5 minutes.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command% to get audio since UE4 doesn't play nice with proton.
To fix audio, protontricks 408900 win7 and then in launch options, WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%
ALVR streaming to a Quest 3 resulted in averages of 15 fps.
Some videos will not play past 1 minute.
Requires either a Valve Index + DP 1.4 dock or ALVR and a good wifi router.
Wouldn't recommend for long-time play, crashes are way too frequent for it to be playable as this game requires a lot of time.
Micro-Stutters with High-Quality shaders on.
Crashes around 10 - 15 minutes.
Changing resolution with changing the screen type crashes the game.
Crashes when you don't have xboxdrv.
You might need the xboxdrv dependency to not crash.
You will have a near windows like experience, much lower mouse latency than Lutris
Much more CPU intensive than Windows on Max settings.
You must have xboxdrv still, otherwise you will crash within 5 minutes.
5.6-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Glorious Eggroll's custom Proton version
Playable with tweaks. Requires xna40 to be installed via protontricks.
Requires Windows Media Player for music and in-game sounds. Could be solved by installing the wmv9vcm or msdxmocx but haven't tried.
