I'm not sure why, but first time it didn't open at all
After first failed attempt, I used PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% on steam and the game opened - but the game menu wasn't visible. There were some graphical artifacts and nothing could be done. My GPU is not vulkan supported, I'm wondering if that could be the issue.
Save games do not get saved in cloud, you will have to manually transfer saves from your other devices
Slight stuttering here and there but nothing major.
Had to use -windowed launch option for the game to start. It was playable but a bit laggy but it can be because of my low-end device.
Launch command: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% NOSPLASHPRELOAD
In order to get the game to run and not crash you need to use the launch command above. It wasn't running on any newer proton version though. I am running it on ZorinOS / Macbook Air 2015.
Runs flawlessy with Proton-GE 6.21-GE-2
Game freezes on loading screen. Unplayable.
It doesn't launch on proton 6.3.8 at all, it also freezes on proton 5.0. Unplayable on Macbook Air from 2015. I used Proton GE 6.21-GE-2.
Game runs well on proton 4.11-13
Given my hardware, game should run swiftly on very high settings, yet I had to get it back to middle and turn on v-sync for it not to have serious graphical glitches, stuttering etc.
Game doesn't start with Proton GE 6.21-GE-2
"Freespace 2/Fred2 cannot be run from a drive root directory" is the error message. I'm too dumb to apply the registry fixes others provided.
White screen of death.
Game doesn't launch on any proton higher than 5.0-10. It loads the menu but once I start the game it freezes on white screen and doesn't move from there.
Game starts using proton 5.0 and proton GE 6.21-GE-2
Game opens up very slowly using proton 5.0-10 , it opens up swiftly with proton GE version though. In both cases resolution is screwed up in main menu and mouse doesn't accurately click on things (have to go up and to the right and click on nothingness to open up certain tabs and change options)
Very enjoyable with little tinkering, no graphical artifacts with everything turned on and graphic settings on ultra.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 %command%
With the following command, launching Grim Dawn x64 option and older proton everything seems to work out of the box. Had no luck with newer versions of proton.
Old version unplayable - graphical artifacts, huge lags, can't exit normally
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
gamemoderun %command%
Had to turn on fullscreen manually, game starts in windowed mode automatically.
Game was running at 10-15 FPS lower speed than native linux version. When all you got is 30-40 fps the way game feels changes drastically.
Running this game on macbook air from 2015 led to a lot of lagging. The native version is running much faster and feels more fluid.
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Used xrandr --size 640x480 && %command% && xrandr --size 1440x900 - to fit the resolution of my screen.
Game seems to react to keyboard with a slight delay.
I had to use older proton (5.0-10) - like with many other games on my hardware. Besides that, perfect experience out of the box!
Game opens after some tweaks but doesn't allow to play a match
I used PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% in launch options, before that game wasn't opening. Got to the menu, everything was going smoothly but couldn't got past that phase and start playing. It seems to be some kind of connection issue.
Whole game is blurry, the letters in the menu are indistinguishable because of how blurred they are.
There were no issues with performance of FPS drop on my machine though. Once I stumbled across "start game" in the menu I was able to run the game and it was playable (although a bit blurred too).
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 (build 1643711986) GloriousEggroll
Audio was missing on all proton versions despite custom proton GE
It was either too sensitive when using touchpad or too slow when using bluetooth mouse. Not accurate.
It was running on 60 fps but without sound on proton 4.1, on this proton version it works with sound and everything but it dropped down to 8-9 fps so game is unplayable. Tested on my Macbook Air from 2015.
Low fps.
On higher end machine perhaps the experience would have been better. Right now on my computer it's either good fps with no sound or good sound with <15 fps
Had to enable Vsync for the screen to stop flickering. Had to disable hardware mouse, otherwise it was flickering and at times totally invisible.
Flickering Screen
Mouse icon was dissapearing and flickering in the main menu, until I turned off hardware mouse.
Tested on Macbook Air 2015. Newer proton versions didn't launch the game.
I was constantly walking forward even without pressing any key.
Game was a bit laggy - 15-25 FPS on a quite modern machine.
Game is running slow despite my specs and fast internet speed.
Game opens only on Proton 5.0 - 10.
After latest uptade it runs only on Proton 5.0 - 10 , nothing newer works. Before it was running flawlessly. Game lags and mouse reaction speed greatly decreased as well.
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Turned on VSync
Doesn't work with proton 6.3.8 or 5.0-10. Very slow first boot - directx was installing for around 5 minutes. Other than that, FPS between 25-75 on my machine, so there are huge drops at times. Turning on v-sync helps.
Game doesn't run
It shows still black screen or some graphical artifacts. Non-playable.
Runs flawlessly after using this command line in launch options on steam: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
The only thing that could be the downside is that I had to use xkill to close the game as I could not get back to menu.
No big issues running older version of proton. Tested on Macbook Air 2015.
Game doesn't run
I tried different versions of Proton and Proton GE. Game doesn't boot even to start menu.
Used gamemoderun %command%
Game fps drops from 60 to 20 frequently. Keeping vertical sync turned off helps.
I tested this game on Macbook Air 2015.
Proton GE 6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
No glitches, visual artifacts or other problems whatsoever when running Proton GE 6.21-GE-2
Doesn't work under proton and natively
It installs but after that - doesn't open up.
