The game runs fine for like the first hour of playing, eventually it will just randomly crash on you the longer you play it.
The game eventually crashes at random under prolonged gameplay.
I don't think the crashing is a Linux issue, I remember having this issue on Windows as well.

When trying to start the game I was getting an error "D3D9 Application: Could not find any compatible Direct3D devices. This application will now exit." To fix this, I needed to install primus primus-nvidia bumblebee-nvidia
The game works great (including the expansion), although it can be a little laggy and crash sometimes just like on Windows.
Works perfectly, just install and play.

Small texts can be difficult to read.
Works great out of the box, no changes needed.

This game runs well on Steam I can also just use the steam workshop mods with ease.

I had to force Proton to version 6.x to get the game to launch, but did not need any launch options.

Works out of the box with proton experimental
Works Great

Not working when launched from a Wayland session
The game does not launch when run from a Wayland session. It complains about being unable to use hardware rendering and failing to reset Direct3D device.
Everything is working fine and the game is stable when started from a X11 session.

Works out of the box
Bought it, installed it, and basically started playing. Works like a charm!
First session ends with a crash, every other multiplayer session worked well

Runs better than Windows
Mods work fine (eg Fall of the Republic), just include them as you would on Windows in the launch options

The game sometimes freezes during intro sequence when starting with FoC expansion. That's why I played with maximized window instead of fullscreen, because otherwise I wasn't able to alt+tab or close the game after such freeze.
Multiplayer can be rather unstable sometimes. Frequent crashes on some specific maps, especially land battles and with specific units (empreror and his lighting attack tends to occasionally crash the whole game). Difficult to play a full large-scale 1v1 galactic conquest, but smaller ones as well as skirmishes work quite well. Most of these problems are present on Windows too though.
Many of the issues I faced are also present on Windows, so the experience isn't much different.

As long as your playing Vanilla or FOC then you are fine. Mods are unstable.
Credits are dollars now.
For mod's such as thrawns revenge it is unplayable. Constant crashes and low FPS.
Only when using mods such as Thrawns revenge.

Works a little worse than Windows
Anti-Aliasing greatly reduces performance. In the game, FullHD resolution works better, than 1600x900 for me.
Mods work the same. I ran AOTR 2.10.3 . If the game crashes when launching mods from the settings menu, then write the launch command: STEAMMOD="Modification ID" The ID can be found on the mod's SteamWorkshop page.
Works perfectly out of the box

Running out of the box.
Game not launching

This is also a problem on Windows, even back on Vista, but it occasionally crashes during a game. If you're in a long game, save often.
Works OOTB with compat tool chosen by Steam
Mods work just as well as on Windows. If it looks like it's crashed, just wait and it'll load. Just a standard for mods for the game to look like it hangs as it all loads.

You cant call the multiplayer excellent, but that isnt a proton/linux problem, its running as smooth as on windows
Perfectly playable

Couldn't really move units in Galaxy Conquest because it lagged so hard
Works well!
Desync/Lag when playing with bigger mods
D3D9 Application : Could not reset the Direct3D Device

Was unable to get the game to launch while using Proton Experimental, 7.0.3, 6.3.8, or GE 7-21.
Good (like Native)
Space battles in MP are a bit unstable but this is normal game behavior.
Do NOT build the Merciless in multiplayer!
Some text can be a tad small but nothing unreadable
Plays great on the Deck with the default mouse controls. A fine way to get some RTS goodness on the go.
The game runs just fine for the most time and interestingly supports very high resolutions and refresh rates for its age.
As far as I know the game has about as many issues on Windows. The original CD version doesn't even run anymore on modern PCs without mods.
It is a great game, that works really well for its age. Only the textures and polygon count clearly reveal, that it is old.
The game runs flawlessly
Has bugginess with corrupted save games and poor performance but is the same as windows. Mods from steam workshop work fine.
Game installs, runs, and plays without any issues. I also played a match with a mod and again, no issues
Hardware mouse flickers, so it's best to go into settings and enable the software mouse, even though the cursor ends up lagging a little
Works good
Played with Proton 6.3-8
Tested on Macbook Air 2015. Newer proton versions didn't launch the game.
Had to enable Vsync for the screen to stop flickering. Had to disable hardware mouse, otherwise it was flickering and at times totally invisible.
Flickering Screen
Mouse icon was dissapearing and flickering in the main menu, until I turned off hardware mouse.
