PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Installed vcrun2022
Sometimes it starts to graphical glitch heaven.
When not using D3D it runs with 1 fps
Always disconnects in the first couple of minutes, even when playing with other people that use proton. Also when followed this guide: https://aoe2.arkanosis.net/linux/#aoe2_de_online_multiplayer - it doesn't change anything for me. I even tried installing vcrun2022 via protontricks but to no avail. Game is utterly unplayable for me because of that.
If anyone finds a fix that actually works for me I'd be glad.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Installed vcrun2022
When starting with SKIPINTRO it starts to graphical glitches.
Okay, so I applied this fix: https://aoe2.arkanosis.net/linux/#aoe2_de_online_multiplayer and then didn't get around to testing it right away, the following day Age of Empires II: DE queued an update on Steam. After that update it did not work until I applied that fix again. (Without this you will not be able to play online multiplayer without desyncing in the first couple of minutes)
gamemoderun PROTON_DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
When unlocking boots everything is black
High settings barely 40 fps had to turn it down to low without any effects to get around 80 fps
If you want to use the BeamMP multiplayer mod, some tinkering is required (nothing to serious though)
I installed BeamMP (the multiplayer mod) via protontricks inside the same prefix BeamNG Drive is installed, then I added the launcher as a Lutris game, with: the executable being: BeamMP-Launcher.exe the working dir being: [...]/Application Data/BeamMP-Launcher the wine prefix being: [...]/compatdata/284160/pfx
You could also just run the launcher via protontricks immeadiatly if you aren't a fan of Lutris. Also if you don't use the mp mod this just works out of the box anyways.
Some microstutters when compiling shaders, other than that perfectly playable
Some stutters when compiling shaders, but is perfectly fine after a few minutes.
Was able to play the demo to its fullest extend online with a friend and also randoms.
Game doesn't load into multiplayer games
As this an only online multiplayer experience, you need to play online. This however does not seem to work for me.
Worked fine.
There doesn't seem to be ui scaling options, so it's pretty hard to navigate the menu on 1440p upwards.
Crashes on startup
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
tried installing xna40 and xna31 both errored out and didn't make the game start. The proton-logs make it look like it is a xna issue, can't track it down exactly though.
creates a window after which it closes itself immediately
Worked with Proton 7.0-1 out of the box
It seems that for some people it can't connect to steam servers, on Proton 7.0-1 it was fine for me though.
Runs as good as on windows
6.2.0 PTB crashes on EAC initialization.
PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 gamemoderun %command%
Like in 6.1.3 after it's done syncing friends it starts EAC initialization and crashes due to stack smashing.
gamemoderun %command%
Used vulkan when asked on launch
Tried a game with a friend, worked flawlessly.
gamemoderun gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 %command%
Worked, including voice chat.
Crashes made it impossible to play with a friend haven't tested singleplayer
Mouse initially was only captured when holding down M1, after tabbing out and back in it fixed itself
Needed to play on medium settings
Voicechat worked both ways
Yeah, doesn't launch. (EAC)
idiotic devs that think linux enables hacking
Works out of the box
Needs russian servers, so don't have them blacklisted. (unlike me)
gamemoderun gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 -r 100 -b %command%
30 FPS (couldn't find any graphics settings to change)
No issues when playing online with a friend
Worked perfectly out of the box
Worked out of the box
Well sounds are missing from the game itself so nothing to do with proton
Frequent crashes but works
Artifacting on border with 21:9 aspect ratio
Need to play on medium settings with a 1080 Ti
Crashes alot on transitions, from lobbies to menu and stuff
Works out of the box (with slight artifacting in cutscenes)
Cutscenes were completely artifacting (unimportant though)
Voicechat didn't appear to be working, it looks like it's in a broken state on windows aswell though
installed vcrun2022
mouse always resets to top left in menus when left-clicking
I couldn't find a match after the first two I played but it seemed like the servers just went offline(?)
Getting kicked out pretty frequently in online parties, no elaboration why. Am able to rejoin the party for about 5 seconds before getting kicked back to the main menu again. (Some games are fine, others aren't)
Mostly just works, though be it with performance issues (most likely due to missing optimizations e.g. ragdolls not despawning ever)
gamemoderun %command%
Game runs at 50 fps at lowest settings on RX5700XTX
A friend of mine could only join when using Proton Experimental, other than that it works really well.
Most performance issues most likely originate from the optimization of the game itself. As the people joining my session also do not face these issues (they also have marginaly better gpus though..)
Perfectly playable except for voicechat
Voicechat does not work at all.
Flawless casual fun!
As others have mentioned, one needs to change the video settings from fullscreen to borderless and back, so the game actually uses the whole screen. Other than that perfect.
Only really playable on lowest graphics settings, don't mind it though.
Had no problems whatsoever in multiplayer, played a match as killer and survivor using quick-play. (I have the "Proton Battle-Eye Runtime" installed via Steam though, if that makes a difference)
Proton-5.4-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab installed with Proton 5.4-GE-3 selected as Proton version
Crash after entering S.T.A.R.S Office. Probably cutscene loading error, unplayable because of that.
Game runs perfectly fine.
I really don't know why people would want to play this game at all, but if you do it runs aswell on linux as it does on windows!
Crashes when joining friend
Not launching
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
Tried both Proton Experimental (bleeding-edge) and GloriousEggroll 7-9 both to no avail. Game crashes immediatly after launching with the following crash log: https://pastebin.com/raw/nQPRL8x6
Tried protonfixes, protonGE and PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
I can also confirm that the SteamDeck works flawlessly on the SteamDeck.
Took a while to be able to order.
Best console, period.
EAC prevents any online gamplay, be it PvE or PvP
Game exits immediately after launch with error
Game prompts for execution without admin privileges.
Crashes on startup and takes whole system with it
gamemoderun %command%
Tried proton-experimental, experimental with bleeding-edge beta, proton-ge and different storage devices (initialy on network share, then on local drive)
Creates a blackscreen then slows down the whole system to a halt. Way to annoying to debug.
gamemoderun %command%
Game has performance issues. I have to play on medium settings with FSR set to balanced on 3440x1440 resolution. Though this might just be the games fault.
mangohud gamemoderun %command%
When loading into the map the first ~30 seconds the game slows down to less than 1 fps when compiling shaders, after that the game is pretty playable.
I'm using Proton Experimental as default though. If it doesn't work ootb, you might try experimental.
Click start and play
When switching between fullscreen and windowed mode, I needed to restart the level otherwise the game would be streched out.

mangohud gamemoderun %command% -adapter 1
For me, it used mesa drivers by default and performance was miserable. When I changed them to the amdvlk drivers via the launch option -adapter 1 it took a second to built up shaders but then ran buttery smooth.
