Dogshit performance
The performance problems seems to be significantly greater on multiplayer and you can't even browse for servers without slowdowns.
PROTON_ENABLE_NAVPI=1 mangohud gamemoderun %command% --skip-launcher
I change the configuration files so it always uses vulkan, even though I skip the launcher.
- Navigate to "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Launcher/Settings" Edit "preferences.json"
- Change the value "DefaultRenderingBackend" from 1 to 2 to switch from dx11 to vulkan renderer
- Run "chmod 444" and "chown root:root" on the file to prevent steam or otherwise to make changes back to 1 on the file.
I noticed weird artifacts during dialogue where there would be black blocky flickering. Very brief and minor.
On borderless fullscreen the mouse is grabbed until you alt-tab for the first time.
First time around I found some issues relating to mangohud. I'm kind of new with mangohud but there's certain options in it which causes heavy artifacts and missing polygons.
Works pretty well
It's important to note that the game is very demanding, especially on higher settings.
Can't get it to work
It probably don't work because it isn't installed into the base game properly.
Works well throughout
There's an important loading screen/camera bug during Case 7-4 where you need to change your ini settings in order to proceed. See: https://steamcommunity.com/app/45770/discussions/0/2183537632753061003/
"look for a file named rendersettings.ini.
Once you've opened rendersettings.ini up, look for a line called UseMultiCore = true and change it to UseMultiCore = false"
Works perfectly
Any mods you might want to install also work perfectly on this title
Testing DF between Windows native and Proton on Linux shows that there's a significant performance penalty resulting in noticable stuttering while the game is running.
For Dwarf Fortress lost frames isn't very obvious since there's no animations in the game but it places its mark by making the game run very slow, a problem DF already suffers from. This results in input lag and stuttering. This is why the game sometimes don't register when the player tries to place items while the game is running.
Doesn't work well on native and doesn't work well on proton either.
Crashes when loading a game and graphics settings aren't set to the absolute lowest settings.
Works surprisingly well
Hard to compare but should be slightly faster.
The launcher doesn't launch so make a symbolic link from the launcher in Evil Genius 2/Launcher/eg2.exe to Evil Genius/bin/evilgenius_vulkan.exe
The game has some fault that causes lag during combat
Combat caused the game to slow down to an unplayable extreme degree
Works really well!
Frostpunk can be somewhat surprisingly demanding in higher resolutions but works overall extremely well and is exceptionally stable throughout the experience.
gamemoderun %command% -skip_launcher
Sometimes the game will freeze, looking over at htop it looks like the game allocated around 80 GB in memory for some reason.
Works
Minor performance problems, seems to get better after turning off AA
Works
Bad but playable performance issues
This game works very well currently. The previous reports are very old.
The game has an annoying texture glitch. This is caused by the systems.xml file in Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings directory.
The file has several settings set to kSettingLevel_Low, just change these to kSettingLevel_Ultra.
Random crashing in the middle of the game because of Unknown Error: FFFFFFFF and is apparently caused by audio.
"Some external devices such as headphones and speakers can cause Error Code FFFFFFFF to occur." Source: https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/18238320138771/Red-Dead-Redemption-2-Error-Code-FFFFFFFF
The game fails to activate ownership through their DRM system half the times I start the game.
%command% -vulkan
Metal reflection shaders/textures/reflections aren't correctly displayed with vulkan. Instead of having shiny metal surfaces, it turns a lot of the buildings into black shining blobs. It works with DX11 and DX12 but that introduces performance issues instead.
With certain settings the game can slow to a crawl but this can be reverted by tweaking the settings.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 mangohud gamemoderun %command%
Stuttering and significantly lowered performance
With all the stuttering and performance problems, which becomes worse inside caves where you desperately need your frames the most, I doubt many would enjoy playing this game on Linux.
mangohud gamemoderun %command%
The game has a very low draw distance. Enemies tend to phase into existance as they approach, which makes the game significantly harder to play.
This might be caused by the game itself using up too many resources, but I notice a high cpu load considering the relatively low graphical fidelity on System Shock. You would expect the game to be much less stressful for the GPU. I've also experienced some stuttering.
Couldn't get past the main menu
Some visual glitch prevents me from playing. The window wouldn't display. Might be wayland related perhaps.
Completely unplayable
Can be launched and might be playable. Could only get into character creator but the cutscenes in this RPG don't work and it never loaded into the game proper. Had to refund.
Use libstrangle to limit to 60 fps or suffer significant stuttering during rotation of the camera.
Unplayable even by Sims standards.
Works well after some minor fixes
Music and sound doesn't work correctly unless the correct library is loaded.
Game captures mouse unless changed in the wine registry and winecfg.
Random crash when renaming lines. Might be fixed by now.
Possible semaphore timing issues. Might be fixed by now.
This is an early access game and some of the bugs aren't caused by proton while others are. The fixes are small and easily implemented.
CTDs on menu open
Definitive crash when opening build menu.
New stuttering problem
Is initally smooth but then suffers from heavy stuttering after playing for some time
Tested on Win7 version of the game only.
