This game is amazing on the Steam Deck, when the Steam Deck first came out it had sound issues, now it's flawless. It's awesome!

the game starts up and plays fine however on native and without changing the compatibility to ULWGL-Proton-8.0-5-3 AND setting fullscreen on
once changing the compatibility and changing the options to fullscreen the gane works great

I played for about 30 hours, never noticed anything bugs, it's a bit clunky to begin with though

Works Flawlessly no issues

This one is weird. I started with GE-Proton9-5 and audio was out of sync, like almost everyone is reporting. Switched to Windows, audio in sync, ok, back to Linux. I tried like almost 10 Proton versions without luck. GE7.25, GE7.55, GE8.32, GE9.5, GE9.7, Proton Experimental, Proton 9, Proton 7. Every version out of sync. As last version i tried Proton 8 and suddenly audio in sync? After this key moment, every other Proton Version was in sync too. i really don't know what happened. Like Proton 8 downloaded some missing file or something and now every other version uses it too?
Every Proton and GE-Proton works since version 8. Less than 8, most likely no audio. Audio can be out of sync, but experimenting with versions like me can fix it. But still enjoyable, even with out of sync audio. Linux is Nobara 39.

All audio in-sync and present, except BGM does not loop on Proton 9.0-1. Switching to Proton-GE fixes the problem.

Launched the configuration utility and changed from windowed to fullscreen. Combined with Proton GE8-25 there is no audio delay.
Audio initially had a delay, fixed by setting fullscreen in the games configuration launch tool.
Old game => low resolution. I have a large screen but playing windowed works fine and nothing is blurry.

Audio only worked after switching to GE-Proton7-27. It is about a quarter second behind but is serviceable. mostly noticeable in the menus where you see the highlighted text move then hear the sound directly afterwards.

Needed to add protontricks 70400 directmusic
Worked with protontricks 70400 directmusic
Capitalism, Ho!
The game needs DirectMusic and DirectSound support which doesn't work well by default.
Your choices are protontricks 70400 directmusic
to fully install all of DirectMusic (includes DirectSound)
Or, I already looked into the specific dlls related to them that the games uses, you can install only those with protontricks 70400 dmime dmloader dmsynth dmusic dsound dswave

I tried the newest GE-Proton version first but the game did not start. It only worked with GE-Proton7-27 for me. Works fine with that said version.
Game didn't launch without GE.
Requires Proton GE/Experimental. Audio lags by a fraction of a second but is barely noticable.
Cloud save does not work
Audio is borken on regular setup on steamdeck
Audio is broken on base proton custom proton restores audio
Works perfectly with Proton GE, otherwise no sound.
No sounds on any Proton version I tried
Audio is missing with most recent Proton.
No audio.
If you don't mind playing with no audio, the game is still perfectly playable.
Works great with GE-Proton7-27. Even works with controller. Note: Must use the game's configurator first.
You must have GE-Proton installed if you want audio. I have tried the Steam default Proton of various versions up to Proton 7.0-3 and Proton Experimental and those did not have audio.
As indicated by the report given by Anarch157a,
"To fix the sound, before using protontricks, delete the symlinks dswave.dll, dmsynth.dll, dmusic.dll, dmime.dll, and dsound.dll from $STEAM_LIBRARY_PATH/steamapps/compatdata/70400/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/syswow64, otherwise cabextract.exe will complain about permissions. Then run protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound audio=alsa"
Tinkering required for audio to work.
Game won't launch.
No audio in all Proton versions
Very high CPU usage at all times
Default Proton doesn't work for this game. It looks like Proton GE forks can run it correctly.
The audio delay isn't that bad but still very disappointing; I've run the same protontricks as everyone else suggested.
All audio comes out slightly late.
The crackle only seems to be at startup so far. I booted the game into fullscreen without error.
No sound unless you use Proton GE
You must use Proton GE to have sound - there is no sound otherwise. However still installed and ran fine on steam-recommended proton version.
Audio does not work using regular proton. This is fixed with GE.

7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Default Proton renders no audio. GE fixes this.
I couldn't get fullscreen to work, but I've heard this is a problem with the game as it happens on Windows. Windowed mode works great, however.
The game took a minute or so to start on first launch. Subsequent launches were much faster. Just be patient for the first run.
protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound sound=alsa like the other post says.
protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound sound=alsa
When the game first boots it makes a loud crackling noise. Other than that I noticed nothing wrong with audio after using the protontricks command from the other post.
Fullscreen crashing the game sometimes was fixed by starting in windowed mode.
The fullscreening issue seems to happen on windows as well.
No audio.
Crashed when booting straight into fullscreen.
Game worked on default Experimental Proton (without audio) but works with audio on Proton-7.0rc2-GE-1
Proton-7.0rc2-GE-1
Proton-7.0rc2-GE-1 fixes the audio out of the box.
Easily fixable with protontricks although I had to dig to find the solution, none of the past reports work by themselves currently.
Used "protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound sound=alsa" on Proton 5.0-10
Without protontricks the audio doesn't work. Works without sound=alsa but it's needed to stop crackling
Booting the game directly into fullscreen causes it to crash on startup but this is a general issue with the game not with proton
To fix the sound, before using protontricks, delete the symlinks dswave.dll, dmsynth.dll, dmusic.dll, dmime.dll, and dsound.dll from $STEAM_LIBRARY_PATH/steamapps/compatdata/70400/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/syswow64, otherwise cabextract.exe will complain about permissions. Then run
protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound audio=alsa
no audio without tweaks
Works perfectly

5.11-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll

Fixed audio issues with:
protontricks 70400 dswave dmsynth dmusic dmime dsound audio=alsa
This is the minimal selection of directmusic-related winetricks verbs that are needed to get audio working, plus audio=alsa
to reduce the audio delay and crackling experienced otherwise.

As others have noted, the game had no audio on initial launch. The steps I needed to follow to get audio were as follows:
- Edit the
winetricks
script (possibly as root) to ignorequartz
installation by searching forload_directmusic()
and commenting outw_call_quartz
below it.
# {nano|vim|whatever} $(which winetricks)
- Install
directmusic
through the editedwinetricks
script in the Recettear prefix
env WINEPREFIX={{steam library path}}/steamapps/compatdata/70400/pfx winetricks directmusic
- Launch
winetricks
and set thesound=alsa
option in theChange Settings
menu - Launch
winecfg
for that prefix and set thedsound
library override tonative
After that, the game worked fine- no crashes, no visual glitches or audio skipping for 2 hours of straight gameplay.
Previously described workaround fixed the audio issues
Got the sound working by launching the terminal on /steamapps/compatdata/70400/pfx/ and run WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/70400/pfx winetricks directmusic dsound sound=alsa
