Native Version Works Perfectly (After Mischief Tour Update)
As of the latest update, the native version's online multiplayer is crossplay with Windows and Xbox. It functions perfectly!
Prior to the Mischief Tour update, the native build had visual bugs and totally broken multiplayer. The game now seems to run perfectly with the native build.
Doesn't Work on Nvidia
The game functions completely fine on my AMD laptop, but I cannot get it to load any more than a black screen and a cursor with Nvidia. Switching to the Nvidia dGPU in that very same AMD laptop results in the same issue.
Runs Perfectly
Performs amazingly and is fully playable. I completed the game and got all the achievements that didn't require multiplayer (which seems to work under Linux, there is just no online playerbase) without encountering a single issue.
Runs Perfectly, Including Multiplayer
Water can do some funky things on the desert free roam map. It's actually quite entertaining.
Online multiplayer is perfect.
Runs Almost Perfectly
Upon reading some Steam reviews, it seems these crashes are present under Windows, as well. They do not occur during gameplay: only when selecting things in menus.
Only issues are the occasional crashes in menus, which, again, are also present under Windows.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Noticable artifacting and incorrect lighting when using WineD3D instead of DXVK. Game would not launch w/any Proton version until first launching with WineD3D. After doing that, now DXVK works as well. Seems a fresh save file cannot boot with DXVK?
Make sure to launch for the first time with WineD3D. After you have made a save file, it works with DXVK. Newest Proton that can boot to the menu is 5.13-6. The native port runs, however it is incredibly slow, does not recognize any of my controllers, and up/down keyboard input is not registered (making most menus unnavigable).
Runs great - only bugs are likely with the game itself.
There is a consistent bug where a certain powerup stops spawning (happens after a few rounds) until you restart the game. I think this is with the game, itself, though.
Unplayable - notes disappear and change speeds, your ship teleports
Audio skips around to random points in the active song.
Most songs are completely unplayable due to notes dropping in/out at random, notes speeding up and slowing down at random, and your ship teleporting at random. None of these issues exist under Windows.
Slight flickering artifiacts are present at times. They do not significantly interfere with gameplay.
The game is noticeably more stuttery than on Windows, but it is still fully playable.
The game requires Proton Experiemental to fix some serious bugs that make the game entirely unplayable. With Proton Experimental, the game runs as it does on Windows, only with some additional stuttering and artifiacting that, though noticable, does not prevent the game from being playable and enjoyable.
Best played in 40hz mode to preserve battery - the game will warn you that your framerate is too low and will cause issues, bu I have not experienced any issues thus far.
On Steam Deck, the game can hold a perfect 40fps on max settings with AA off (except for the opening cutscene, may be shader cache related).
Runs Almost Perfectly
As mentioned in previous reports, the audio in the opening cutscene is out of sync. People have fixed this with tinkering, however, only the first cutscene is affected, so I would consider it to not be a very big deal.
Occasionally crashes when loading into new areas, but otherwise as native
Sometimes crashes when loading into a new area. Can result in re-playing some levels.
Doesn't properly support Steam cloud saves. Manual backup is required if playing on multiple devices.
Songs only work if reloaded several times and cutscenes are broken.
None of the cutscene-ish videos play. Instead, they show a texture that represents the missing content. Doesn't interfere with gameplay.
Occasional framerate drops, but nothing too distracting. Ran reasonably well.
Most of the time when starting a song, the notes never appear and the game is unplayable -- However, if you exit and load back into the song repeatedly, it will eventually work as intended. Also, if you use the button to play the next song without going back to the menu, the notes for all the songs will continue working without issue until you return to the menu.
The only remaining Linux-only bug I can find is that the user's profile picture is often displayed upside-down - good thing this doesn't matter one bit!
