40hz
FMV in the early segment of the story was mute. Possible later FMVs will be mute, but people say there are very few.
The frame rate fluctuates enough that you should run at 40hz for a consistent experience. I suggest maxing all settings except setting HDR to Low and Distance Scaling to Medium. Shadows and Textures should be High. Game is forced 16:9 and even widescreen mods cannot seem to expand vertically to 16:10 ratio. There will be black bars.
See guide.
See this guide. It worked flawlessly. Just be careful.
Works even better than the game did when I was running Windows 10 on the deck to play it. It used to have performance issues and random server disconnects. After the above guide, it works flawlessly.
I had no difficulty with anything so far. Game looks and plays flawlessly. Perfect 60fps.
The few characters I know well, felt right at home with these controls.
A quality experience.
The connection issues I had were on par with the failure rate I had on a PC.
Coming from a Helldivers Sony Vita player, this is the optimal experience. Perfect 60fps, more stable, voice chat works.
Initial settings menu appears. Set graphics profile and resolution. After that, crash.
The crash screen allows no control input to choose the "skip, ignore, break" buttons. Must crash the game from Steam button to escape game. The error message mentions egrendererbase.cpp, and failedfragshader1.txt
Random crashing during gameplay. Not sure exactly what triggers a crash...
Proton 7-3 and Proton Experimental would not boot. Proton GE 7-20 would boot, (installed via Linux Discover store) but I am getting full game crashing randomly.
Basically a perfect experience.
I previously was running my Epic store copy via Heroic Launcher, and found some audio sync issues with cut scenes. This Steam copy of the game however is running flawlessly.
Use in game vsync to cap 60fps. SteamDeck was showing 200+fps wasting battery and was not able to cap frame rate on it's own.
First major cutscene fell out of sync badly after a minute. Other scenes so far seem good. Could be others with the issue.
Gameplay feels perfect. Maxed settings. Over 5 hour battery life, 40% gpu, 20% cpu. Old but effecient game.
Demo currently not available, but I copied a backup folder of the demo installation from PC.
30FPS limit is very much suggested. Game is a major battery drain at 25 watts during combat. FPS varies WILDLY overall.
Some UI descriptions during battle were being slightly cropped off screen.
Doesnt matter much for turn based RPGs, but even the main menu was 17fps, much of battles were varying from teens to 50s. All over the place.
So I copied the installation folder of the demo that was previously available. You can seek out the early access demo yourself. Game is set to release later this year. Anyway, I told Steam to import the EXE and set to ProtonGE 7-24 and after a very long initial load screen with game artwork in the background, it finally passed and the game was largely a good experience after. FPS fluctuates wildly but it works. Here's an example during combat.
The final version of the game will hopefully have graphical settings to tweak and optimize things far better. It's playable at least.
No real issues found so far.
Before the the title screen, the save data prompt windows were cropped a little off screen, but immediately after everything was perfectly scaled within the 1280x800 frame. I see no visual glitches. Everything runs flawless 60fps with a perfect frametime graph. Controls automatically mapped perfectly. The game does have black bars due to being a strict 16:9 ratio. I have not found any methods to force a 16:10 ratio.
Default Proton was 7.0-2 at this time.
This seems to be a great candidate for the SteamDeck. I always wished this game came to my Vita, but this will do.
Some matches showed 2 bars. USA 1GB Fiber internet here.
Seems like every other match or so the game will freeze for one full second, which can often lead to your death. I haven't found any combination of graphics settings or proton versions that cure this. I haven't seen anyone else mentioning this issue. I'm still having a good time.
Disabled dpad up to disable that method of jumping. Annoying. Analog for occassional menu up movements.
I owned it for free on Epic so Heroic Games Launcher came to the rescue. Great game for the deck. I specifically used Heroic Bash Launcher to import it into Steam more intuitively. No issues. Loving it.
ENABLE THE 2021 BETA VIA STEAM FOR 60FPS!!!
I only found out about this from the game's forum, but you absolutely need to go to the game's properties within Steam and enable the beta version from 2021. Then you will be able to find a 60fps option in the game's settings menus. This makes a WORLD of difference. It's a crime this game was 30fps originally.
Game does not load beyond a black screen with default proton. Experimental will load it but no mappable controls work.
Game is also in a small 640x480 margined window. Not sure how to zoom for games like this on the Deck.
Installed GOG installer via Steam's default proton, then added non-steam game from it's install directory.
Again, using the DRM free GOG copy installer exe with 2 bin files, I added the exe as a non-steam game, installed it, then navigated to the folder the virtual C:\ drive installation went to, and mounted that game EXE as a non-steam game, and thus far, I see no glitches. Very happy. As someone who has spent the last couple years experiencing the Ys franchise from Origins to VIII on my Sony Vita, I'm thrilled to have 9 portably now too. So far it seems an extremely solid 60fps on High settings, except for overkill ultra settings which the game warns you about with orange or red text. I havent yet tested those settings.
The folder which Steam installed it to was within home/deck/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/4045740510/pfx/drive_c/{wherever you installed it to within the installer configuration}
