Delete your wine prefix, remove the dep
folder and install d3dcompiler_43 and d3dx9_43.

Game refuses to respect your settings and will render only the top left corner visible on fullscreen. Gamescope was the only way I could fix it.
You're probably better off emulating the WiiWare version through Dolphin.

Heavy frame drops on DX12. Select "Play RERUNNER in DX11" when launching the game.

Mouse is absurdly sensitive, you can install this patch to fix the problem. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/932-fear-2-mouse-fix/
Works OOTB
Window has some quirks on Hyprland but nothing that results in the game crashing
Properties > General > Set language to Japanese. Currently there's a sprite mismatch bug in the non-English builds of the game rendering the visuals practically nonsensical. You can set the in-game text to English once you get into the settings menu.
Videos (such as the background of the character select screen and previews of your characters moves in the info screen) are missing and will instead show up as a color test pattern.
Played in both a private lobby and the ranked floor system without any issues.
Only played private matches, but they worked perfectly.
Opening movie doesn't play without GE-Proton. Other than that, it works great.

Installed GModCEFCodecFix https://github.com/solsticegamestudios/GModCEFCodecFix
Missing fonts, replacements can be a bit hard to read
Running either version on the x86-64 beta without CEFCodecFix will not work. You'll need it to play the beta on Linux.
Running Native + CEFCodecFix is much more smooth than running the game on Windows. However, this comes at the cost of reduced addon support, the most common issue being broken skyboxes on some maps. "Toybox Classics (Reworked)" will crash your game when loading into a map.
Via Proton + CEFCodecFix, you get largely the same experience you would on Windows.
No matter what you pick, you'll see some weird fonts in your HUD/UI elements.

Severe performance loss on Hyprland, gamemode fixes this.

If you need a mod manager, this is likely the best way to get DMM on Linux:
https://github.com/BrainwreckedTech/dmm
The mod manager has quirks, namely downloading mods directly from the launcher doesn't work properly. Download them directly through the Gamebanana website instead. There's also some UI flicker issues but they shouldn't be too prevailent. Game itself runs perfectly.
Used Flampy's "Fix Right Stick" Steam Input layout for DualSense controllers
Crackling in FMV cutscenes, presumably when the game is loading something in the background
Without the community layout fix you'll be unable to perform any actions using the right stick, effectively softlocking the game

Does not play nice on Ryzen CPUs. You'll need to overwrite rlmfc.dll
with the one provided in this article:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Max_Payne#JPEG_errors_on_AMD_Zen_2.2F3-based_CPUs
i3 shortcuts will either not work or immediately crash the game.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES is only required if you're using the widescreen patch (which I recommend regardless of whether you're on Windows or Linux)

Doesn't play well with i3wm, similar to Max Payne 1.
Install ThirteenAG's widescreen patch else you'll have 4:3 stretched. Compared to Max Payne 1, I didn't have any issues with my Ryzen CPU so I didn't have to install a fix for that.

Mouse escapes window if you move too fast
Can't get gamescope to work. Running the game in Hyprland consistently results in a kernel panic (that's a first!)

About halfway through the game my portal gun suddenly disappeared. Running 'restart' in the console fixed this issue.

I recommend capping framerate to your monitors refresh rate, though it should work fine without the launch option

The game has about a 50% chance of the anticheat working properly once you boot it up. If it doesn't work then you have to reboot and try again. Once you get in, you're unable to join other player's lobbies without disconnecting a minute later. Other reports say Versus doesn't work, but I haven't tried myself
Nope
Luck ran out, game can't get past the anticheat anymore.
