For the menus you have to use keyboard and mouse. Only actual gameplay allows for controller input.
Ropes/Cables/etc will flicker into and out of existence. In certain dark scenes NPC models will be entirely black (such as Viktor Reznov in the gulag elevator scene, and the rat tunnels, again with Viktor Reznov appearing completely black).
After installing the game on Steam Deck it will have an odd resolution. You just have to correct it in the menus.
For some reason it started with a weird resolution. I had to go into the game options to fix the aspect ratio and resolution to Steam Deck's native of those options.
Just need to correct some video options. One time I was correcting video options it did crash instead of fixing video options. But subsequent runs it worked fine.
The default controller mapping is insufficient and the mouse is overly sensitive. It would work better if you attached a mouse/keyboard.
Small text for the screen size.
Steam Deck emulates a mouse/keyboard. The mouse is overly sensitive and the assigned keys miss flashlight and the speed key.
You have to use the touchscreen on the launcher window.
The game works well on the Steam Deck. It did crash randomly once. But largely has been stable.
Aside from the few issues I've experienced I think most people would enjoy it. The vast majority of the time it works fine.
Origin sometimes likes to permanently add its "Press Shift + F1" overlay window to the bottom right of the screen. I deleted igo64.dll to fix this. Also if there is a cloud save conflict Origin will flicker back and forth between the game and the Origin window. Just try to select an option for the Cloud Save and then restart the game via Steam.
The Launcher for the game does not support controller options. But using the touchscreen works fine for selecting the options.
A ran into a few times the game crashed, it seemed random. Though I've had Steam OS kernel panic three times when exiting the game through in-game exit options.
Using the third party patch Gentlemen of the Row is needed for mostly stable play. And once forced to 30 FPS.
Constant stuttering at 60 FPS. Given the age of this game it shouldn't have an issue on the Steam Deck. However, the original game was known to be a buggy console port. Forcing via Gamescope to 30 FPS seems to help.
Occasional stuttering. FPS would dip into 40s.
Steam Deck uses the Windows version, so this does run through Proton.
