Still an amazing game and runs just like it did on Windows
It's a older game but suprisly ran flawlessly

Mouse is absurdly sensitive, you can install this patch to fix the problem. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/932-fear-2-mouse-fix/

Game does not launch in Wayland with an nvidia GPU. I switched to xserver and game ran perfectly. Also, the launch options is probably not required.
Keep track of what display server you are using while playing games.

runs great

Did a few quality of life tweaks after going directly to this game directly from F.E.A.R! A small note that sometimes when in game and tweaking controls, going back to the game using the official layout, you will get switch to the menu layout instead of the game layout for some reason. If you notice you can't move just go back to the layout and switch it over a few times to the in-game controls.
The game does not support Steam Cloud Save so be advice that you won't have your game carry over to your desktop!
Can't recommend the game enough, works like a charm and its such a good game. Another example of why Steamdeck is the horror supremacy device!

Mouse acceleration was incredibly bad, so I went ahead and installed this Mouse Fix: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/932-fear-2-mouse-fix/
I simply dragged and dropped X3DAudio1_5.dll into the installation folder.
I am not sure if this is a FEAR 2 problem or a proton problem, but ATC enemies don't scream when they burn, and sometimes replica soliders don't either.
As mentioned before, the game has mouse acceleration, so I had to disable it with a mod.
Another notable mention is that before installing the mod my camera started spinning like crazy. I don't quite remember if it was after alt-tabbing or bringing up the steam overlay.
Some information about my setup: I am running Gnome 45.2, on an Nvidia laptop, with the entire xorg session being rendered using the Nvidia card. I also have my laptop hooked up to a second external monitor.

gamemoderun %command% +fovy 90
Completed the game and the dlc with no problems, no crashes and no audio problems.

gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="X3DAudio1_5=n" ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 %command% +fovy 90
The game appeared to initially freeze when I first tried to launch it, but it seems to be related to not using the audio properly
The game by default doesn't seem to work properly with using whatever default audio codec its made with through proton I made it use X3DAudio which seems to have fixed the freezing and now it runs perfectly.

Alt tabbing for a long period of time (>3 minutes?) makes strange artifacts on the screen. Restarting the game fixes it
Mouse acceleration. Fixed by installing a patch
I've read somewhere that switching to Proton 4 fixes the invisible hands and weapons glitch for F.E.A.R. 1, and at the same time I know that F.E.A.R. 2's engine is the same as 1, just slightly upgraded. Tried switching and, works perfectly! Install the mouse acceleration fix (https://www.moddb.com/downloads/fear-2-mousefix-v103) and you should be good to go!

The hands and weapons you hold are transparent
Mouse acceleration, turned it off by downloading a patch
Get mouse acceleration fix, and you're good to go. All though the hands and weapons are transparent...
Works perfectly

Worked well OOTB
As with FEAR 1 the hands/guns were semi-transparent but it's only a minor thing to notice. No other issues to report.

Save data is deleted when the game is uninstalled. No Steam Cloud support.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="X3DAudio1_5=n" %command% +fovy 80
Mouse acceleration seemed to be enabled. Installed the mouse-fix mod to get raw input. WINEDLLOVERRIDE parameter is used to make it work. pcgamingwiki has link for the mod.
Nvidia users with transparent weapons, use DXVK 2.0 to fix that.(currently in proton-experimental bleeding edge)
No gamepad support
Runs flawlessly from what I've played so far, so give it a try!
Just install and play
Some models (specially weapons) are somewhat transparent. It doesn't affect gameplay at all.
Sometimes did not detect mouse. Alt-tabbing fixes it.
One time it forgot my savegame. It made a new numbered subfolder in the documents folder \WBGames\FEAR. I had to copy the contents of WBGames\FEAR into the WBGames\FEAR\subfolder to restore my savegame/settings.
Some transparent textures on guns, but otherwise runs very well.
Like the first F.E.A.R., guns have some transparent textures on them. Seems to be a thing with Monolith-developed shooters, as a similar thing happens in Condemned: Criminal Origins.
I played both the main game and the Reborn DLC to completion with everything cranked to maximum settings. I didn't have any crashes or other stability issues. I didn't try multiplayer.
Works out of the box
Runs Great
Some transparent textures
No crashes, ran great, used Proton 6.3-5
when I first launch the game the mouse doesn't work until I alt-tab out of the game and go back in and then it works fine for the rest of that session. Not sure if this is a Proton issue or a game issue.
Works OOB :)
There's an optional mouse sensitivity fix on PC Gaming Wiki you can enable using Protontricks:
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/F.E.A.R._2:_Project_Origin#Mouse_deadzone_and_sensitivity_problems
After you have launched the game at least once, download the fix and install it per instructions. After that, run the following Protontricks command:
$ protontricks 16450 winecfg
Select "Libraries", enter "x3daudio1_5" into the "New override for library" field and click "Add". Ensure the override is defined as "native, built-in". After this is done, launch the game and mouse sensitivity should now work properly.
The assault rifle's laser sight seems to disappear at random. I don't know if this is a Proton related issue or not.
Finished the game with 1440p + 144 Hz on keyboard and mouse with solid performance with no major issues.
Everything works perfectly. Had no issues whatsoever.

Proton 5.0-7. No launch options or other tweaks needed. Flawless performance on max settings at 2K
Was able to play until near completion (I got bored near the end.) Only some minor, barely noticeable issues.
No issues.
Crash 1st run during initial performance test. Start the game again and all ok. Set display to 1920 x 1080 ok.

- Game crashes often with Esync enabled.
- Crashes on startup with D9VK. Couldn't try with "protontricks 16450 mdx d3dx9 d3dcompiler_43 win10" because my distro doesn't launch protontricks at the moment, dependancies outdated. I will update when possible if it makes any difference.
A lot of missing/black textures.
Disabling Esync seems to resolve the frequent crashes problem. Though I didn't play long enough to be sure that it's completely solved.

Game crashes and has black screens.

work without tweak, great game

Videos does not work. Game crashes or freezes randomly. Great performance though.
