Was frequently sluggish while looking and turning. Maybe it missed intro screen textures. These problems do not occur on Windows.
Worked with my wireless bluetooth controller natively on Linux.
Achievements not unlocking. However, simply booting the game on Windows gave me all my missed achievements retroactively because of the Steam Cloud, so it remembered.
Mouse impacts gameplay performance
Mouse input seems to stutter the gameplay
Heavy stuttering when turning left and right with mouse. Turning left and right with keyboard arrow keys works fine.
Tiny id logo is all you get
A small Wine window appears with a tiny id logo in. Then it quits.
Full playthrough with Rivarez Mod. Same issues as Windows. Installed subtitle patch to increase size. Mouse sensitivity high.
Sometimes did not detect mouse. Alt-tabbing fixes it.
One time it forgot my savegame. It made a new numbered subfolder in the documents folder \WBGames\FEAR. I had to copy the contents of WBGames\FEAR into the WBGames\FEAR\subfolder to restore my savegame/settings.
After playing for about 30 minutes or so, the game suddenly becomes stuttery. I do not know the cause, so I restart the game to play normal again.
Played from beginning to end.
Completed the game on Proton Experimental. Controller force feedback and ultrawide hack also worked. Fluid gameplay. No Windows needed.
Sometimes Steam had problems with my Steam Controller, but usually Steam worked fine, so the game did too.
Unlike all other Mafia Definitive Edition games, this one did not do so well on Linux.
Was a bit more laggy then Windows alas.
Windows stuck to 60 FPS. Fine. Then I will play on Linux with 120 or 144 FPS. The in-game FPS was almost the same performance-wise.
Mafia III has some bugs, so it is hard to know which bugs would also have happened on Windows. Very few times, after finishing a mission, the game stayed black with loading icon. After a restart I could continue the game again.
Played the whole game from beginning to end. Ran smoothly. I did not try Windows, nor did I need it.
I couldn't get the colors right, but didn't try older versions of Proton. I hope people who have the same will notice and fix it.
Color distinctions didn't seem right (on walls, floors etc.). Like it had a very low color depth.
Yes. I installed "Payne Evolution Enhanced Edition Full Final" which includes getting ultrawide support. It makes the game experience more modern, but less vanilla.
Cutscenes are messed up in 21:9 or 12:5 (ultrawide), although gameplay supports ultrawide. Amount of cutscenes made me play 16:9 or 16:10 (widescreen).
Windows does not support cutscenes in ultrawide either
Played from beginning to end with 140 hours of gameplay. Maybe had one crash total. Overall pretty smooth experience.
Using black bar remover (asi) might lead to some cutscenes not starting. Could be the same on Windows.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
For everyone with an ultrawide: praydog's REFramework has an RE4.zip containing dinput8.dll. Put that dll in your main game folder and use these launch options. It will grant you ultrawide options.
Seems playable based on the short time I tried it. Have some hiccups like other people here mention, mostly during new scenes.
Played it from beginning to end. Had no problems on Proton Experimental. Enabled FidelityFX with Quality setting in the menu. Was smooth.
With a white screen on GNOME, press super+pgdown and super+pgup very quickly. Played the entire game including all DLCs on Arch.
Game ran twice as fast, but I was able to fix it.
If needed, decrease your frame rate to 60 FPS with the following steam launch parameter: DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Works! There used to be video stuttering when Steam Controller was turned on, but it seems fixed. I can play normally with Steam Controller now!
The intro video of Nightdive Studios (logo) was green. No problems whatsoever playing the game from beginning to end. Would recommend!
No cutscenes means you lose most of the story.
Cutscenes are totally black without visual or audio. You can play the game by skipping cutscenes.
Played from beginning to end. Cutscenes also worked. Videos in the skill tree did not work, but managed without them.
Two or three crashes during full playthrough.
Each skill upgrade is supposed to show a short in-screen video, but all I saw was black. Futhermore, after playing the mini-game Space Runaway, the FPS went from 120 to 60, but it was easy to correct.
Online reviews showed me the game can also crash on Windows. Might not be a Linux problem.
-d3d12
Episode 3 had some big arena's which sometimes had a little frame drop
Cutscenes were not showing. Game crashed with dvxk (d3d11), but not with vkd3d (d3d12).
I used the ffmpeg conversion to enable the showing of cutscenes. I used the -d3d12 parameter to use vk3d3 (to avoid complete system crash on dxvk).
