Great game and runs great. Enjoy
Played multiple matches with multiple friends and had no issues
%command% -NoStartupMovies
Game runs great, no issues. Game takes a long time to launch but works flawlessly.
Editing of .INI and adding after market mods / games files is necesarry to enjoy. Welcome to peak 1990's PC gaming :)
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw.dll=n,b" %command%
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw.dll=n,b" %command% Replaced ddraw-compat with cnc-ddraw, as ddraw-compat does not work in Wine. Without tinkering, the menus are invisible and the game runs incredibly slowly After adding cnc-draw, I went into the SUN.INI and changed scroll rate to 7. Which is slower than what the game allows you to choose. (bigger number is slower) After this I was able to enjoy the game just fine.
random shadows of menus
Scrolling from mouse was unusably fast
Without tinkering the game is unplayable / unenjoyable but with some gool ol fashioned 90's tinkering you'll be enjoying this classic!
Needed to modify .ini to make game run 1080p
The game will be stuck on the splashscreen.
To launch the game, go to:
<Steam-folder>/steamapps/compatdata/2229870/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Command and Conquer Generals Data/
Create a file named (the capitalized 'O' is important):
Options.ini
Open this file then add:
AntiAliasing =
DrawScrollAnchor =
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 800 600
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = Low
UseAlternateMouse = no
VoiceVolume = 70
Save the file and launch the game.
no longer works
Initialled and ran great using afformentioned tweaks yesterday. Today, nothing works. Not Skirmish, not any of the campeigns, nothing. I've deleted the listed files and still crashes while attempting to load any battle. Game launches, but is fully borked
I scrolled through the other users and tried every AMD option I could find under a variety of Proton versions incluiding GE. Never launched.
Tried many different options. No luck
Borked
Works great... Don't Tab out of the game though
ALT Tabbing locks the game
As long as you don't mind using a keyboard it's great. Can't get the controller to work though.
Cannot get my controller to work at all. Works fine in all other Disgaea and spinoff games
Overal good experience. Default controls don't feel as good as other disgaea/spin off entries
For me this game is more playable on the Steam Deck than it is on PopOS. Mostly because I'm unwilling too play on a keyboard since this feels like more of a sit back and relax game
Ran out of the box
In windows, I've spent hours trying to get this to work. It just worked in Linux, no issues at all. Thanks GNU/Linux!
Works in Linux, doesn't work in Windows
Takes some in game tweaking to have the resolution make sense
Game runs great, no issues
Unable to change the way your character works. The cosmetics store is fully borked
Game looks super fun and wish it played. Might be the fact I'm using an early 6.0 Linux kernel, but borked is borked
Tried forcing all versions of proton from 5-7 and GE as well.
Will ask for refund
It just worked. This was installed by windows and booted just fine in Pop!_OS with no tweaking at all.
Great game!
Checked here on Proton.db and it appears to be borked now. Game is unplayable in its current state.
Game doesn't launch at all
Game worked fine on my older Linux PC's, this one never even launched.
Newest drivers, tried all recent versions of proton. I can play all my other games, including Outer Worlds on Epic Store. Verified the game as well.Seems that 2nd gen and newer Ryzen procs have issues with this and those issues are worse if the gpu is AMD based
Couldn't access previous saves
Wouldn't run from my Windows NTFS drive even after re-downloading. Installed to my NVME EXT4 drive and it worked immediately.
After the game launches the menu's are visible but the content of the game is not. I needed to save my game, then I needed to exit the game. Once I loaded back in I needed to go to graphical settings and disable Upscaling (AMD FSR 3)
Once this setting is set to disabled I can see the game content.
Once loading into the game the cutscene works just fine, after the cutscene when you take over the mount, an ingame cutscene plays less than two minutes after where a piller crashes,.. and them my game and computer crash too...
Crashes at the same spot every time, see tweaks section for more info
Playable on older GPU and newer CPU
FPS dropped a bit and I had dropped connections a few times
I initially tried playing this from my NTFS windows partition and the game failed to launch. After moving the game to my Ext4 drive it worked immediately. Only issue was lower FPS and I got dropped from a few matches for internet issues.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 taskset -c 0-15 %command%
Cut-scenes don't play.
About every 10 minutes the game crashed till I used "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 taskset -c 0-15 %command% "
I only found the solution after looking at Proton DB and seeing many others posting they used PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 taskset -c 0-15 %command% to fix crashing. If a new to Linux gamer didn't know about checking proton DB they may have not found the solution
Fun but hard game. 10/10 would recomend trying. It's Basically a Battlefield game and C&C Renaged if they had a baby
%command% --disable-gpu
Games hard and it can be laggy at times but alas, my hardware is old and this game is huge
%command% --disable-gpu
That fixed everything
%command% --disable-gpu
Performance issues may be related to my aging GPU
Overall good experience. If you get really good additional tweaking can further improve performance.
Game struggles with larger amounts of audio in larger fights
I have more stuttering in game than friends with windows and lower end hardware
Every few month I experience large amounts of crashing and incredibly bad ping (300+) I say something in chat, game crashes and when I relaunch the issue is resolved. I suspect a server is being rebooted but not certain
Games doesn't launch at all. Tried all available versions of Proton
Tried Proton versions 3.7 - 7.3; Experimental; GE 7-21
Unplayable. Will check back shortly but I may need a refund if it doesn't sdtart working soon
Game is borked regardless of Proton version. Proton GE8-25, experimental and standfard all give memory error
Game is still borked as of 01-01-24
Love this game and I'm glad to see it worked with no issues right outta the box. Highly recommend 10/10 would do again.
I thought it was pretty cool that the character I started in windows transfers seamlessly to all my Linux PC's
Booted and ran first try. Some of the Mods I had installed from windows somehow loaded in too. :shrugs:
Tried forcing all versions of Proton and nothing worked. This is odd since both of my crappy-ish laptops start it up no problems
Save frequently and you'll be fine, also, subtitles are necessary.
No voices
Was in the middle of a fight, blocked with my shield and the game crashed. Hadn't saved in awhile either...
Most people are not used to the old days of constant crashes (Morrowind), but with frequent saving its... fine. SSDs make load times a non issue.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”xaudio2_7=n,b”
Would not load previous cloud saves
Runs great. One random super hard crash recently but not to bad for 46 hours.
Runs great. Any issues I experience are noticed by windows users too
Tried multiple versions of Proton and none worked. Wouldn't even launch
Game is native but I've played native games that were unplayable. Report submitted to show its working (mostly)
Game glitches out occasionally, save and reload and issues seem to resolve each time
Game doesn't launch
tried the two listed near the top of this Proton DB
