Started moving really slugish during first exposition movie, then the interface was almost completely stuck, sound still worked.
PYTHONIOENCODING=utf-8 DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 %command% was necessary to even launch.
Used Glorious Eggroll "Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST"
Funny enough, on proton version 4.11-2 it still worked with quirks, ever since then - it stopped. Didn't try protontricks or winetricks.
Due to what I've specified in Graphics... 2 FPS drops in the middle of combat is a deal breaker.
It doesn't apply real fullscreen, top and bottom "black borders" are applied. 1600x1200 even though I have much more. I've read in the comments below a fix using virtualized desktop but didn't bother with it.
On highest graphical settings, game experiences occasional 2 FPS drops. If that happens mid-combat, needless to say it is a problem. Happens much less as graphical settings are decreased.
Runs smoothly most of the time.
I have a Ryzen 3700 series CPU, that requires: clearcpuid=514 in the grub config to work ==> https://askubuntu.com/questions/19486/how-do-i-add-a-kernel-boot-parameter
Otherwise - not even the Ubisoft launcher starts.
My issues could be resolved in the next 5.4 kernel, as I'm experiencing problems in multiple titles due to my hardware. If anything changes, I'll update my report.
After fixing the desktop size issue, you can enjoy it in full screen. A bit lower settings than on Windows.
Glorious Eggroll 5.4-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Glorious Eggroll 5.4-GE-1
Virtual Desktop size effects screen size, fix described below. Never used it.
Shaders take time to load, that results in occasional frame drops. Better now on newer kernel.
Uplay starts, updates, logs in, appears to work just fine. But, when trying to run the actual game - simply doesn't start. Ubisoft logs show primarily connectivity issues, but that could be completely irrelevant.
Out of the box. Kinda slugish in full graphical mode. I think a specific setting causes this. Didn't check, busy having fun.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Textures of some wood I shot in a certain location flickered. Nothing major.
Alt-Tab doesn't actually let you escape, but using the super key will. Returns back to game safely.
Works the same as Proton 5.0.9 Vanilla!
Proton-5.21-GE-1 (Glorious Eggroll) GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.21-GE-1 (Glorious Eggroll)
UPDATE: I think that if you don't Alt-Tab out too much it'll stay solid for hours on end.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.21-GE-1
Technically, you can, and it keeps working... but I suspect it causes lack of stability.
Unable to reproduce exact conditions - can run smooth for hours, can crash twice in 1 hour.
Didn't work wtih 6.3.4 or experimental or even Glorious Eggroll 6.8, but latest Proton-6.9-GE-2 works.
Proton-6.9-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.9-GE-2
Both Proton 5.0.9 and GE 5.9 Stable crash at exactly the same place - Shader compilation 70%.
Launch and fail to run, no errors, no nothing. Proton 4.11-11. Media Foundation workaround not tested.
Could be my hardware, since installing Ubuntu 19.10 resulted in chaos, and Manjaro Gnome results in weird reactions on my screen, but tl;dr game launches, gets past company logo, see the "zen" circle rotating until it soft-locks. Can alt-tab and close it, but nothing more.
Since I can't edit my report - I'll add one to balance it, after adding wine d3d11 to the options it runs perfectly. Actually, on Windows my GPU overheats, and on Linux it doesn't!
Multiplayer not tested, worked out of the box. 0 customization, only proton experimental. No crashes, no glitches so far.
Installed, pressed play. Simple as that.
Only error I get is that the game doesn't close properly after some time of playing. Must force quit, but the desktop isn't locked. Simply Alt+F4.
People here say it works great, I can't enjoy it. :(
Unable to reproduce, but game grinds to a halt. Must force quit to close.
Under regular Proton, mouse cannot place buildings. Fixed by using Glorious Eggroll, which leads to crash.
Make sure to switch to borderless or you won't be able to Alt-Tab back to the game.
Game will not run without replacing files.
backup /[game_directory]/launcher/eg2.exe then cp /[game_directory]/bin/evilgenius_vulkan.exe /[game_directory]/launcher/eg2.exe
Can't run with native or Glorious Eggroll, simply won't start.
With disabling Esync or using wine d3d11 I get a splash screen, then a black screen. With disabling d3d11 it won't even start.
Used fixes: ==== WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command% in the SET LAUNCH OPTIONS in the steam library. ==== Pasted bBackgroundMouse=1 in the fallout.ini file located at ===> /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Fallout4/fallout.ini. ==== Experience: 1. Sound occasionally breaks, no STR, makes NPCs non-responsive, must restart game to fix. 2. Can't quit without crash (sometimes possible via main menu). 3. FPS is choppy on occasion (Note - I'm using Radeon VII).
I wouldn't call it perfectly since there's an FPS distinction between the windows version and proton, but I did nothing but click "play" and it runs fairly well.
Slight rendering lags, otherwise out of the box.
Slight stuttering in certain rendering locations. A recurring problem in Vulkan translation. Still runs on 2560x1440 ultra. I use fidelity 1080p for extra smoothness.
Still enjoyable, although the lags harm the Cinematic experience - which is a lot of this game.
Occasional rendering takes a while. Sometimes slows down very noticeably.
after 3.3 hours, had my first crash during intense rendering lag.
I played it on Sony. If this was my first playthrough, I'd be pissed. Wait for it get stable.
The longer you play, the less stable it becomes.
Or... acknowledge the fact that it'll run perfect, but every 20-40 minutes it'll crash. Maybe mid scene, breaking immersion or hard fight.
Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST was said to fix this, didn't for me.
Game installs, compiles shaders, starts running with initial black screen and circle in bottom left corner indicating loading, then a Wine message pops up about a crash. Didn't explore further, just bummed.
A bit buggy and laggy at times, but all in all runs great in Ultra on my setup. Compared to Windows, same quality.
Glorious Eggroll 5.9-GE-7-ST GloriousEggroll
Isn't frequent. Happened mostly in tutorial, but some degradation of the audio occured after as well.
Occasionally a low grade object would render to high quality.
Crashes in tutorial is you reload from save (Sneak tutorial with young brave that fell down). Game loads and controller responds, but game stuck in loading screen. Must logout and login to session to fix - closes game.
Update - the tutorial bug I had replicates. Loading leads to blocked loading screen. Fix by restarting game. No thank you.
Proton-5.9-GE-7-ST GloriousEggroll
Loading screen stays stuck. Alt Tabbing fails, must manually crash X to escape.
GE stable 8 + AMD fix made this game run good. FPS drops are a bit annoying, but avoidable.
Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll
GRUB option: clearcpuid=514 for AMD UMIP disable Glorious Eggroll Proton - 5.8 Stable
Very occasional sound quality issues.
In certain locations FPS drops to single digits. Dropping quality speeds it up. Didn't check which option causes it.
Steam error log shows a lot about wrong ELF classes, misloaded fonts and whatnot, but the gist of it is - it's borked.
Problems listed, it is working - but barely. Not enjoyable since the eye candy and fun stuff makes this whole game. Better wait.
Sometimes it seems like the engine can't decide on how to render a texture (visible flashing on house in opening scene).
It noticed when I turned the controller off, but didn't let me use it (PS4 Dual Shock) even when configured via steam as xbox or sony.
Started the game on very high, no problems. Ran benchmark, went down to 15 fps and then STAYED there AFTER the benchmark! clearly something translated wrong.
Not sure how far the crashes go because I refunded, but it crashed in the ship when I was pressing on something meaningless.
It crashes in specific locations, and glorious eggroll crashes in different ones. Can't really play the game.
Hard crashes, rebooting PC. MCE cpu errors. Only happens in this game.
go to "steamapps/compatdata/356190/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/WB Games/Shadow of War/render.cfg" and edit ScreenHeight16by9 and ScreenWidth16by9 to the resolution you want - just like the person before me said. Works perfectly on 2k. If the game has stutters, they also exist in the Windows version.
Didn't start with 5.0-5 or Glorious Eggroll 5.4-GE-1
As described before me - character breaks the platform (knees and lower go into the floor), display turns white as if negative, no text displayed from the banana, doesn't respond to Esc key, can only Alt+F4 out of it. Sad. :(
Used no tweaks what so ever to run the game. FPS drops on certain planet locations and in space. Generally playable, but the FPS drop isn't something that can be ignored since it is blatant. Dropping quality didn't work.
Proton-5.9-GE-7-ST GloriousEggroll
Glorious Eggroll version 5.9 stable 7
Game has become less stable than it was a year ago, roughly. Hard to enjoy now.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.21-GE-1
Neither native nor proton version runs on Ubuntu 21.04. Is it Wayland? Is it my setup? Don't know.
Full graphical options, out of the box. apart from the controller issue, it runs fantastic.
If the controller (PS4) shuts down, turning it on might crash XWayland to the point of restarting.
It's the Thin Origin client installation. It simply gets stuck after it allegedly finishes installing it.
Didn't try multiplayer, but game works solid after protontricks. Single sign-in to Microsoft. Definitely enjoyable on "ultra".
Run game for the first time, let steam install stuff, quit. Start protontricks. Select State of Decay 2. Select "default wine prefix" and ignore all errors/warnings. "Install component or DLL" Inѕtаll DХVК and d3dcompiler 47. Wait patiently and then close everything.
I suspect upgrade in stability and gameplay is also due to Kernel version.
Worse than before, now I can't even start the bloody thing.
Not with 6.3.4, not with GE... nada. Oh well. Waiting for episode 3 I guess.
had PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -force-opengl in my launch options. Ran both the regular and the experimental versions. Game loads to menu. Lets me change configuration in options. When selecting difficulty, game just clicks the button. Nothing happens. Exit requires a force quit.
Tried running multiple proton versions and from Terminal. Fails (Stuck on paradox launcher). Oh well, waiting for a fix.
Doesn't work with experimental or Glorious Eggroll, runs and exists. Didn't debug any further.
Still doesn't launch, even across distros and roughly 2 years.
Not sure why I'm jinxed. Maybe it's a hardware issue.
Remember to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %COMMAND% to your launch options in Steam or NPC won't talk.
Without SKSE and SkyUI it works great. Tinkering breaks save games and modlist.
Devs said on stream they'll address the proton bugs after stabilizing current version, so worst case - it will take a while.
Proton-6.20-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.20-GE-1
Sometimes the mini map has no texture data. Restart the game and it'll appear.
Roughly 2 hours between crashes, but sometimes more.
The game auto-saves VERY frequently because it is not stable on Windows either.
Too unstable to enjoy, although it runs pretty smooth and has no issues other than that. Best wait.
6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.19-GE-2 glorious eggroll
17 minutes of gameplay until first crash, was in the prologue.
Tried using the fixes as described below (python+winetricks+protontricks). Game launched and crashed after intro. Won't continue. Refunded. Sad. :(
Native crashes Wayland session. Proton carries the Dawi for the glory of their ancestors.
More stable than native port. Using proton 9. No tinkering, basically out of the box.
