Set up mods and modloader
Setting up mods was pretty straightforward and painless. Without them, the game is not very enjoyable. They don't introduce any issues and the game runs perfectly with them installed

Flawless!
Works perfectly, both on my PC and Steam Deck. Both wired and wirless controllers work out of the box. Mods work too if you install them via prontontricks
works out of the box.

If you're using the SADX Mod Installer by PkR, use these launch options to make sure Lantern Engine will work. Use protontricks to run the installer and install .NET 8. Proton Experimental can now run the game without fucking up the FMVs, so you don't have to switch to Proton-GE anymore.
With the SADX Mod Loader pack by PkR, the splashing sound from the end of the Sonic Team FMV keeps looping all the way to the main menu. Not annoying, but noticeable.
If you're not using mods, then this game works out of the box. Almost feels like this was made with Deck compatibility in mind.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
use Protontricks to install .NET 7 and the SADX mod installer
the game's fmv before the title screen will not display properly until you switch to proton GE, any version will work
if you need a tutorial on how to install the SADX mod installer, heres a good tutorial for both regular linux and a steam deck https://youtu.be/1H8CtsKWK-U?feature=shared

Installed 'dotnetdesktop7' for SA Mod Manager
Stock game works fine, but you really should play this using the SADX Mod Installer to restore the original Dreamcast assets and fix a huge number of issues with the PC version of the game. Before running the mod installer with a tool like Protontricks, use Protontricks to install dotnetdesktop7 so the included mod manager opens correctly.
If you're playing on a Steam Deck OLED, change the framerate cap to 60 FPS for proper smooth frame-pacing.

Perfect OOTB
Zero issues to report on. Everything ran as it should with no problems! This is only regarding the Steam version of the game with no mods though. If that's all you care about - it plays great!

Works great out of the box, delightful experience that anyone could manage. If you're modding it can be a bit tricky, if you're getting an error related to an "unexpected KW_SAMPLER_STATE", this has to do with lantern engine. The way to fix this is just by installing an older version of Proton, GE 7-3 worked well for me. Also dont forget the launch options, it'll complain for another reason if you miss that

SADX as a whole isn't a great port; but with BetterSADX it makes it one of the best Sonic games.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8.dll=n,b" %command%
Installed BetterSADX
A very loud crackling sound (even at 45% volume it peaked my headphones) would play; not enough to ruin the game; but it'll scare the hell outta you when it first happens.
Had use the launch command stated to get Lanturn Engine to work or else it'd crash upon entering Casinopolis (Sonic Story).
BetterSADX is the best way to play this game; SADX on Steam is a broken mess of a port and isn't as enjoyable as using the mods to restore the OG Dreamcast experience; if you don't want to mod the game using protontricks; I'd just play the Original Dreamcast game.

No issues found!

You have to switch to Proton Experimental in order to use the Mod Manager, but pre-rendered cutscenes don't render properly in Experimental, so make sure to switch back to GE Proton after setting up your mods.

I'd 100% give it a verified, it felt like it was literally made for Deck. Not sure why it's listed as unsupported

runs out of the box with zero problems, installing the SADX Mod Installer for the Dreamcast Conversion mods is a little tricky on flatpak.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
vanilla with no mods runs great with no issues, installing and using the DC conversion mod (which is the best way to play this game imo) with the Lantern Engine will require the launch option listed. Reports below me can explain it better.

Works OOTB without needing any mods - when running mods, extra tinkering may be necessary
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
When running the SADX Mod Loader, the mod's upscaled FMV cutscenes would not play until I found the correct version of Proton to run. Use the one I have listed.
Takes no work, dont know why anyone ever reported it as not working. Worked out of the box over a year ago too.

Don't get why th game is considered unplayable. It runs on the Deck without any tinkering.
Vanilla steam installation works flawlessly.

Installed the BetterSADX modpack to improve the game. Make sure if you're using this modpack to disable borderless fullscreen, as it makes the cutscenes judder noticeably (use regular fullscreen). Aside from having to boot into the game a second time after installing the modpack launcher, and choosing to rebind my left touchpad to a mouse for navigating said launcher, there are no issues. Game runs flawlessly at 60fps (cutscenes capped at 30), with minimal power consumption.
Works really well
I played the entire game on my Linux system. Can't be more happier than this.

Works great with BetterSADX mod if you want, but it is a pain to setup, vanilla SADX probably works fine too!
Yes, great masterpiece and brings back the "Dreamcast Flare" the original Sonic Adventure had.

Installed BetterSADX, configured the Prefix so d3d8
will use Native before Builtin.
In-game rendered cutscenes seem to be a bit stuttery.
At the time of this review, 56 minutes were played of the game.

The game audio is prone to randomly increasing in volume to the point where it genuinely hurt my ears and left me with a mild headache afterwards. This seems to be an issue exclusive to those using BetterSADX. If this doesn't bother you then that's ok, but I had to stop playing all together. Just make sure to keep your volume low, ESPECIALLY if you use headphones.
In order to install BetterSADX and get the mod loader working, heres what you need to do: First, download BetterSADX, add it as a Non-Steam game, force it to run through Proton and go through the setup as normal. Next, add another Non-Steam game, this time being the mod loader which you should find inside the game's install folder. Then, once more force the mod loader run with Proton and you should be good to go. If you use the lantern engine mod, you may need to download an extra dll file and copy it into the game's install folder in order for the mod to work properly. You can find it here: https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9

By default, when installing and starting up the Dreamcast Restoration Mod (pretty much the best way to play this game nowadays), the Lantern Mod throws an error complaining that it can't find the d3d8to9 driver (even though it's literally in the game folder). The game will still try to run despite this, but it consistently crashes whenever I try to load areas that have more advanced lighting, such as Casinopolis and the inside of the Egg Carrier. To fix this, simply using the argument "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8.dll=n,b" %command%" will override the need for the d3d8to9 driver, and thus the game doesn't complain about it. Not only that, but the crashes are fixed too! I didn't experience any other errors or discrepancies while playing.
Default audio device unsupported; switch to PulseAudio in the configuration window.
Switch from keyboard input to controller in the configuration window.
Overall, no major issues; just had to switch a few options.
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
Very minor FPS drops at times.
Runs perfectly OOTB.
The game runs with zero issues OOTB.
Game has initial launcher for changing PC settings (resolution and whatnot). Be sure to change the input to controller before launching the game itself.
As noted earlier, be sure to enable controller in the launcher.
Works perfectly.
Using the total conversion mod has made the game really playable! Otherwise without it I could not launch the game.

Game works perfectly as-is from Steam. However, issues start to pop up after installing Better SADX. I only mention this due to being a very common mod for restoring cut content that was found in the older PC release. Expect audio crackles at times, and fullscreen to not work well. For me, it kept crashing after pressing Start on the title. Windowed solved this issue and windowed doesn't present aspect ratio issues like in Windows; it's proper 4:3. FMVs also will not work. Haven't bothered tinkering with those yet. If you're going vanilla Steam it's a great experience, but mods aren't very well compatible right now.

This game works amazingly, and it's amazing to me that it was marked unsupported. I can't tell the difference between playing on Windows and playing on Deck, it's flawless. I was even able to install mods via the SADX Mod Installer, for which I'll provide a brief tutorial, as it's a bit more work than on Windows.
Download the mod installer here (https://sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network/) and add it as a non-Steam game. Be sure to force Proton in the Properties. Then, create a shortcut/symlink/whatever to your SADX folder on the desktop, making sure there's no special characters in the shortcut name. Now launch the mod installer and point it to your SADX shortcut when asked. Go through setup as usual, toggling the mods you do and don't want. You can always change them later in the mod manager, which will be accessible via the configuration launch option in Steam. Once done, don't launch Sonic Adventure. You can now remove the mod installer from your system! Be sure to set the launch options shown above, or you'll get an error on startup. It might be a bit buggy in desktop mode, but it works perfectly in gaming mode.
I highly recommend playing this game with mods, it enhances the experience tenfold.
Yes, this is a playable experience on my specs, just make sure you don't have the game too loud, if you are using bettersadx
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
In the casino junkyard you may experience some random loud noises that blow your ear drums. Happened in some other levels as well, not too often though. - I did have bettersadx installed which could cause the issues.
Other than the sound issue, it runs great. The sound issue could be related to the fact that I'm using BetterSADX.
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command% [FOR BETTER SADX]
Sound effects would occasionally become extremely bassboosted, which hurt my ears.
Runs as well as this horrible px port usually does lol. Played portions of all the campaigns on deck and had a good time, though I do recommend using the Dreamcast conversion mod for the best experience. It does require some extra tweaking, but I was able to follow other guides here to get it working.
I'm shocked that this game isn't at least rated Playable.
