Can't recommend Steam version. Just download from itchi.io instead for a better experience
./DDLC.sh # %command%
Saves are different if launching from .exe or .sh; may be basic knowledge but thought I'd mention anyway
This game likes to mess around with files and such, but it doesn't seem to fully work through Steam. Trying to avoid spoilers, certain files that are created/deleted do not actually.. get created or deleted. Honestly can't recommend playing on Steam because of this.
Sure, the Linux version is bundled in with Steam but due to (I think) certain permissions or the Steam wrapper, or something.. crucial game aspects do not function. I had no issues with these features from the itch.io version of the game. Might be a problem with my system, since I don't see others talking about the issue, but still, Steam can be a miss on this one. Yeah it sucks hours won't get logged if you're used to that on Steam, but for the game experience to be complete, and functioning, itch.io is the only way to go.
Works okay, some stuttering, but ultimately crashes itself and Steam every time the map is opened
Had to unplug and plug back in 360 controller for inputs to start working.
The game and Steam would both completely crash every time I would open up the map.
You might get some enjoyment out of this, but the fact that the map crashes the game makes it a pain in the butt. I'm pretty sure in earlier points of the game it's required as part of the tutorial. That may make progress impossible. It was enough of a bother to keep me from playing this on Linux at the moment. Crashes aside it performs better than Windows, framerate wise, as all Denuvo games seem to do. Stutters only when loading in new assets. Would be enjoyable if not for the crashes.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Fullscreen only works with native resolution. Cannot be changed afaik, unless you change your entire computer's display output.
Dualshock 3 controller mapped like Xbox, several inputs flipped, and game only has UI elements for keyboard controls.
Performance drops regardless of graphics settings. Always around 50fps, can trip you up when asked to be precise with inputs.
Game always hangs upon exit, need to either pkill or terminate application to quit.
Not native to the game, but mods do not work unless WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% is used in the launch options. Heavily recommended to restore missing album art and cut songs from the arcade release.
Game also does not uninstall properly through Steam; will just spit errors. Need to use rm -rf to delete game files.
I wish i could recommend this but there's too many issues to overlook imo. Check other details for more info. For now, I'll issue a refund until further improvements are made.
Game launches but crashes on legal info screen
Unplayable right now for me, at least
completely broken. got during a steam sale and can't even launch it
game completely locks up my computer to the point i need to ssh to reboot it, pkill doesn't do squat. second time round, reboot commands didn't even work so i had to force restart by cutting power. stay away from this game on linux
It launches.. but is in a very rough state right now. Game options from launcher completely borked. Game stutters a lot too
Windowed Fullscreen is the default but instead displays as Windowed. Impossible to change in the settings without possible tweaking.
Major stuttering constantly
Took ages to log in, but worked okay afterwards.
It shows promise, being able to launch and graphics working as they should. Connectivity takes a long time, however, and launcher options cannot be saved. You'll be stuck in a windowed mode filling nearly the whole screen with the bottom info cropped out. There's also significant suttering in audio at times and near constant stuttering with gameplay. It's far from ideal, but one day it could work pretty well.
Runs pretty good on Fedora 36 and Nvidia, with some minor frame drips and shadow rendering issues
Some shadows failed to render properly.
Stutters randomly at GP results, and during cart transformation.
Works fine, just be sure to force Nvidia graphics if on a switchable GPU to eliminate most stutters and turn off compositor if running KDE.
Emblem shimmers, certain explosions, flames, and portals aren't rendering properly. This is something I experienced in Windows as well, afaik it's an issue with certain switchable graphics cards. Your mileage may vary, but the flames and portals are cruicial to newbies. Experienced players can get around by muscle memory/knowing what/where to expect them.
Missing textures aside (on my end, ymmv) it's a pleasant experience that feels almost native. Graphical issues required fixes too kludgy to recommend on Windows and seeing them replicated here makes me think it'll require even more messy work. Users with dedicated graphics cards (ie non-switchable graphics/non-Intel) shouldn't have these issues. Overall recommended.
Game works perfectly as-is from Steam. However, issues start to pop up after installing Better SADX. I only mention this due to being a very common mod for restoring cut content that was found in the older PC release. Expect audio crackles at times, and fullscreen to not work well. For me, it kept crashing after pressing Start on the title. Windowed solved this issue and windowed doesn't present aspect ratio issues like in Windows; it's proper 4:3. FMVs also will not work. Haven't bothered tinkering with those yet. If you're going vanilla Steam it's a great experience, but mods aren't very well compatible right now.
Some minor graphical issues in the hub world, only those overly familiar with the game would notice.
Game runs great. Aside the rare audio stutter and hub world error render, it runs well. Stuttering will occur when loading in new shaders, but those clear up on repeat runs through the stage, as is common with these modern games. I would say most people would be very pleased with this experience!
Game works great out of the box on Nvidia drivers in Fedora 36. However, using the default fullscreen option or alt+enter gives screen tearing, regardless of V-Sync. You'll need to go into the config.ini file and change it to start up the game in exclusive fullscreen. After that it's fine, as long as you dont alt+tab out of the game. Then the tearing returns until you re-launch.
Exclusive fullscreen had to be manually enabled in config.ini to work properly.
Great experience with a minor tweak becomes perfect!
Game always crashes with no fail when exiting the game. Need to pkill process to close it. Game will also randomly hang up after every 2-ish hours of gameplay and will need to be terminated and restarted to work again.
It's a very pleasant experience. No gameplay stutters, no slowdowns. Just some random crashing and a guarnateed crash upon game exit make this just short of a great experience on Linux.
It works, but runs poorly for it being native.
Game runs at a terrible framerate, even on lowest settings. Had to set resolution to sub-HD to get it running even okay-ish. Didn't have this issue on my Windows install.
I don't think this is a very enjoyable experience on Linux. I had significant performance issues that weren't present on my Windows partition. I don't know what they did to the Linux version but it seems to either be horribly unoptimized or require beefy beefy hardware. Maybe a bit of both. I'll avoid this for now.
