Switch to GE-Proton 7-37, launch the game twice and then it's good to go
Use "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" as a launch option to fix the black screen
Stutters at points when the camera teleports between locations, otherwise runs smooth
You have to force close the game and re-open it every time you make a single change to your graphics options
It works perfectly
I haven't noticed a single difference between the Linux and Windows builds of the game
No sound + Shooting guns freezes the game
As of update v9.5, the game sound suddenly stops when about 50% through the shaders loader. This issue can be fixed by disabling all other sound outputs other than the one you wish to use.
On a game-breaking note: Shooting any gun freezes the game. The more/faster you shoot, the worse the effect - to the point of the game completely locking up.
Switch to the "advanced - Advanced options" Beta tree in the game's properties
After having a chat with a developer on Discord, they said that the default EXE forces the use of DX12, which seems to be having trouble running the game under Proton. They mentioned that the "advanced - Advanced options" Beta option does not force DX12 and will default to DX11. Switch to that and the freezing should be fixed on the latest version.
Runs pretty much perfectly
On one instance the textures began to flicker and corrupt, although this occurred after I changed some graphics settings. A restart fixed this. I am sure this issue would have happened on Windows as well though.
Ran perfectly out of the box
After a few weeks, the game displayed a black screen when opening. Validating didn't work, but a re-install fixed the issue.
This issue appeared to occur around the time I switched my rendering backend for KDE. Could be coincidence though.
Text looks a little weird in menus, apart from that Half-Life runs perfectly. Use the Proton version if you want to play mods.
Mouse clicks didn't register. Fixed by adding the following to the bottom of HitmanContracts.ini: UseDirectInputMouse
UseDirectInputKeyboard
The Deck heats up, but runs the game perfectly
The game gets around 30-40fps on average with default settings. Perfectly fine for a handheld.
Native works perfectly out of the box
Installing mods with native is possible, with one or two extra steps
Attempted to run the C++ runtime installed with protontricks. This did not appear to work.
The game does not install the C++ runtime out of the box, you must install it manually. I tried using protontricks to install it, but it did not work in my case. My workaround is as follows:
- Download the C++ runtime installer exe from Microsoft
- Open your PAYDAY 3 game files
- Rename the game exe to something else temporarily (Remember the original name of the game exe)
- Paste the C++ runtime installer into the game directory and name it after the original game exe name
- Run PAYDAY 3 from Steam and go through the installer
- Delete the C++ installer and rename the game exe back to its original name.
Mouse click didn't work. Fixed using -legacymouse 1 as a launch option. Camera movement is still janky and buildings randomly spasm when rotating them (that said the game has an alternative move/rotate mode that I use instead)
Initially the opening cinematic softlocked the game on a white screen. Switching to Proton 6.3-8 solves this issue
Game crashes upon startup
About 2 seconds of the opening credits appear. Followed by an engine error
Game occasionally freezes. Sometimes it recovers after about 30 seconds, otherwise I simply have to close the game entirely.
Steam unable to "Complete installation"
Not sure why, but after installing and pressing on the play button, Steam pops up with a box sayng "Completing installation..." and sits there doing nothing.
Native opens fine, but of course crashes as soon as the intro is over, as is usual of most Saints Row games
Unable to launch
Same issue as I mentioned in my last report from my Desktop. Native crashes after launch video, Steam refuses to launch the Proton version
Native doesn't work? Then use Proton
Game completely froze occasionally for up to 30 seconds, then went back to working normally
Crashed a few times when getting in the elevator in the mission "Gang Bang". Not sure if it's just a proton issue
The Native version kept crashing for me after watching the intro videos upon launch. Proton works, albeit with a few hitches every so often.
Since I own the CD copies, I have to use the god awful Origin launcher, it installs and runs under wine perfectly fine, albeit both Origin and TS3 launcher both have very buggy UIs. Once you are into the game though, it's buttery smooth.
Had to manually install Ubisoft Connect so the game could actually boot
Unable to connect to any game servers or lobbies.
Works great on PC and the Steam Deck
Unable to alt-tab out and click in other windows
