Starts and renders menu correctly although mouse moves choppy at about 10 FPS. Freezes with black screen when starting game.
Freezes with black screen at initial game start, luckily it doesn't bring down the whole PC or Steam and can be closed easily.
I haven't reported here (although I should have), but I did play successfully on this PC 6-12 months ago and it only had an occasional black screen freeze when creating a new game. But I guess with some stack upgrade, at this exact point in time it wholly freezes at startup with black screen. Shame. No idea if it's caused by some recent updates of the game or of Steam stack.
Once again this gorgeous game is working fine. Now it has a small delay at startup during its black screen, but then starts successfully.
Had a couple evening sessions, flawless, max graphics. Even the buggy slow startup is now fixed. Gorgeous game and plays well.
Haven't tried campaign or multiplayer, just a few skirmishes with CPU. Worked perfectly.
Works only in software renderer. Everything works correctly but it looks so horrendous that I can only give it a bronze rating.
This used to work perfectly for years. Nowadays, black screen starting up out of the box. Needs PROTON_USE_WINED3D but then it's perfect again.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D is still needed to avoid black screen.
Native Linux port crashes at start, have to force the Win version, works well on an AMD lappy 1200p med graphics but no Racenet online times
Crashes on startup out of the box. With PROTON_USE_WINED3D works perfectly. Steam overlay works perfectly. First time I exited the game after a 2h session, it froze, but this didn't happen the other times I exited.
Mesa 19, still needs PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to start.
Works perfectly out of the box, played a 4+ h session in one go with not a single error.
Game starts. The menu background is a real time scene rendered in-engine. That works perfectly in all its complexity. But the menu is completely invisible so I can't actually start the game. I'm sure the 3D part of this game works just fine, but it's completely unusable as long as the 2D overlay is invisible. None of the 3 Proton launch options have any effect.
New test after 2 months, with new Mesa and Proton versions. Also decided to rate it Borked instead of Bronze since it is crucially unplayable without the HUD rendering. My previous notes still apply:

HUD/GUI is not rendered. 3D scene in main menu renders perfectly, but without HUD/GUI nothing can be done.

HUD/GUI is not rendered. 3D scene in main menu renders OK, but without HUD/GUI nothing can be done.
Note: 6 months ago the menu 3D scene was rendered perfectly. With today software stack, there is a weird regression, all shadows exhibit some sort of Moiré pattern.
Same: starts, the 3D menu scene rendered correctly, but cannot do anything because the 2D menu is not rendered.
Out of the box -- still broken.
Thanks to SupremeMaus for his tips on how to tweak it to work. I just want to report that with out of the box Proton at current version it is still not rendering the 2D menu.

Updated to Mesa 24.1.
Proton 9.0-4, finally 2D surfaces are fixed and visible now for intro and menus. Perfect!
Works perfectly with PROTON_USE_WINED3D, PROTON_NO_ESYNC.
Only starts with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 but works almost perfectly. Positive since few months ago: no longer needs ESYNC to start. Negative: now, there is a mouse cursor offset issue, it's not a constant offset, more of a function, in the top part of the screen the offset is bigger and you have to click AROUND what you really intend, but towards the bottom of the screen the offset reduces to zero. Minor inconvenience.
It starts out of the box but antialias wasn't working (although I could enable it in game) and performance was not optimal, but with disable D3D11 option life is great like you see in TV commercials.
Perfect out of the box, great performance with everything maxed at 1440p. A few months ago anti-alias wasn't working (needed disable D3D 11), but on nowadays stack, that works too. This game should be whitelisted.
Perfect out of the box (single player only tested). Audio is very loud, but in-game volume control works well for that.
Only starts with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, but then it works perfectly.
Works perfectly out of the box, max graphics 1440p locked at 60 FPS, played 4 sessions x 3h each, no bugs, what an incredible game!
Bought on GOG, running with Heroic, using Steam's Proton 8, ran out of the box incredibly well. Haven't needed the launch param talked here.
Proton 5.0-x was the last version where it ran out of the box. Proton 5.13-x crashes on startup unless PROTON_USE_WINED3D flag is used.
Could only start with PROTON_USE_WINED3D. Framerate is high but has small stutters during gameplay whenever it's loading some new content (e.g. when you do an x-ray move etc.). Had to use borderless full screen mode, but perhaps that's because I'm running on KDE.
Works great.
This is probably one in a million, I hit escape for menu, left the computer, came back later and KDE slapped its lock screen in the meanwhile, I input my password and the game froze at that point.
Perfect out of the box. At max settings 1440p I get 30-60 FPS, on Ryzen+Vega I'd expect more but I can't know if on Windows it's faster.
Doesn't start without PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 but then it works perfectly.
1440p fluent perfect seamless run, cinematics, game, all OK. Haven't tested multiplayer.
Doesn't start. Running vanilla, it creates an empty game window and immediately shows a (Windows emulated) crash reporter. By forcing PROTON_USE_WINED3D, I get a pop-up error "Error initializing DirectX on adapter Radeon RX Vega. Error code: 0x80004001." Esync launcher option don't have effect. Using PROTON_NO_D3D11 launcher option, absolutely nothing happens (no game window, no crash message).
If FPS wasn't blocked at 12-14, this would be pure platinum experience.
Pure fullscreen has a flicker, borderless+windowed work just fine.
This game is now so close to running perfectly it hurts. Max graphics, audio, Xbox controller, intro cinematic, everything works, but no matter what I do it's stuck at 12-14 FPS, including the menu. The game can show its internal CPU and GPU FPS, and those are 100+, somehow just the frame showing to screen is blocked at 12-14 FPS. Also fullscreen has black-white flicker, have to use borderless fullscreen or windowed, and no matter which is used FPS is still blocked at 12-14 FPS.
It used to not start at all (DRM?). Now everything works incredibly well, 1440p 90 FPS fluent, Xbox One controller picked up, it's a blast!
Works well on AMD APU lappy + Xbox ctr, medium settings 1200p 30 FPS or 960p 45 FPS. Only quirk: changing res requires restart to work well.
Running incredibly well, just doesn't detect Xbox controller.
Xbox One wired controller not detected.
Would run amazingly if it detected Xbox One controller.
Xbox One controller not detected.
Controller is now fixed! Playing OK on AMD APU lappy at med settings 800p 30 FPS. Only 1 small bug: in bonnet cam, engine audio is crippled.
All audio is OK except specifically in bonnet cam the engine sounds like a barely audible cat meowing.
Works perfectly, sound bug in bonnet cam from 2 years ago is now fixed.
It used to not start at all (DRM?). Now everything works incredibly well, 1440p 100 FPS fluent, Xbox One controller picked up, it's a blast!
Absolutely nothing happens, game doesn't start. None of the 3 Proton launch options have any effect.

Perfect out of the box, able to play in 1200p 30 FPS max graphics on an AMD APU lappy.

Perfect out of the box, able to play in 900p 30+ FPS max graphics on an AMD APU lappy.
Crashes on start, no launcher options improve this.
At newest Proton stack it started working beautifully, except Xbox controller.
Xbox One wired controller not detected.
Would be amazing if it detected Xbox one controller.
Xbox one controller not detected.
Controller is now fixed! Playing OK on AMD APU lappy at "high" settings 800p 30 FPS.
Crashes on startup with crash collecting tool.
Proton 8 just released, still crashing on start (out of the box).
Proton 8.0-2, still crashes at startup.
Proton 8.0-3, still crashes at startup.
Proton 9.0-1, still crashes at startup.
Since the recent overhaul of Steam I'm getting a crash on startup (winevulkan.dll related) with all Proton versions (experimental, current, past), the only way the game still runs for me is to go to game properties and disable Steam overlay.
Doesn't start, pops an error that DX11 cannot be used. PROTON_USE_WINED3D doesn't help. With PROTON_NO_D3D11, it instead gives the error "This game requires the platform update for Windows Vista (KB971512) to be instaled [...]".
15 min ago I reported it borked (default Proton 3.7-8). Now I switched to Proton 3.16-4 beta, and with PROTON_USE_WINED3D it starts, but like others said: (1) the launcher looks broken (missing background bitmap, fonts, looks like a web page that's missing CSS) but it lets you click Start. And (2): no matter the graphics settings (tried lowest and highest), in-game the problem is always: menu+HUD overlay is perfect, but all models are flat shaded and missing textures. Performance seems to be acceptable otherwise, but of course it's unplayable.
Doesn't start without PROTON_USE_WINED3D, but once it starts all textures are white.

Haven't tried online, but it worked flawlessly out of the box in a solo run with max graphics.
Ran in full screen, alt-tabbed away, and when alt-tabbing back I had no more mouse cursor so I had to shut the game down with alt+F4.
