Steam reports it runs, but no window appears. No Proton versions or launch options resolved this.
Worked out of the box
Importing a save from Batman: The Telltale Series requires copying that game's save files into this game's prefix.
For the default locations, copy the folder:
.../SteamApps/compatdata/498240/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Batman The Telltale Series
into:
.../SteamApps/compatdata/675260/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents

The AutoCam recording feature (which saves mp4 videos of completed battles) does not work.
Worked out of the box
Very brief crackle on looped ambient audio, seemingly when loop repeats.
Proton required to play up to date version of game.
Do not run natively on Linux or macOS after running on Proton, this will corrupt online data. Running on Proton after running natively works well.
Just works
Multiplayer matchmaking has rare error requiring a re-queue, brief connectivity issues are pretty common, but unknown whether these are Proton-specific.
Runs, but with a major graphical issue
Many textures appeared white with rainbow distortions.
I initially had issues interacting with vehicles in the level hub, but don't know whether related to Proton, user error, or otherwise. Issues did not persist.

Video trailer doesn't play after game end, but gameplay itself has no apparent issues
One mode works, but can't load saves
The game was set to fullscreen, but lower than native resolution by default. This manifested as an image occupying one corner of the screen, bordered by black. Mouse position and UI were not in sync. Modifying in-game settings to native resolution and restarting the game worked as expected.
Campaign and Tutorial modes would not start. Skirmish mode was playable.

No audio
Modifying window mode can interfere with keybind context. For example: typing 'i' into a textbox would close the textbox and open inventory.
Regularly crashed immediately on startup, but just required another attempt and would be stable during gameplay.
In-game chat does not work.
Beware collecting huge amounts of art, performance issues may block you from servers.
Game features now fully work with Proton and major issues were fixed.
Works, but saves are not persistent
Upon reinstalling the game, no saves are available to load.
There are major gameplay bugs, but apparently unrelated to Proton.
Works, but performance is poor
Unplayably choppy with max graphics settings under Proton. Low settings were fine.
Worked out of the box
A bug exists with Regular mode singleplayer character selection. After the first character is selected and the game automatically adds a CPU player, canceling and confirming repeatedly will eventually seize input. I had to Alt-F4 to exit.
Game content works well
Tested at 1920x1080: fullscreen puts large black bars on every border and cuts off some of the game content. Returning to a window after fullscreen keeps black bars. This may not be unique to Proton.
Whether standard, the game has issues
Objects/textures would disappear from sight as if an occlusion issue.
Screen tearing. Seemed worse when VSync was apparently set.
Cubes unexpectedly falling out of suspension, making progression tedious. Might be related to looking downward, but I didn't investigate.
The settings UI doesn't indicate current settings, it visibly reverts to default.
Many bugs unrelated to Proton, but the game is playable
Apparently missing cutscene videos, a faux color test video appeared instead.
Occasional stuttering, noticable when drawing cards.
After using the Steam overlay, the game became very laggy until closing and restarting it.
Just works
Assets are not large enough to properly fill a 4K display, but you can reduce the window height to make it look pretty. Doesn't hinder gameplay either way.
In the install directory's options.ini
file, changing the line AlternateSyncMethod=1
to AlternateSyncMethod=0
reduced resource consumption on Proton by about 80%.
The native build features a busy loop consuming one CPU core for frame syncing, in addition to greedy resource consumption in other threads. Using Proton works around this.
With fullscreen at least, the window would go black once it lost focus.
Rarely, the automatic turn progression would not continue on the first turn after starting the game. UI remained mostly interactable, but game had to be forced to stop through Steam.
Just works
Played with gamepad/KB+M. The thumbstick controls are inverted from prior games :/
The arena floor could become solid black or white in an extended play session. A game restart resolves to normal.
Can get to the menu and part way through an introduction video, but eventually crashes.
Tried with wine3d11 and several different versions of Proton.
The game can freeze after beating the final boss; requires unlocking dev mode to continue past that point. Unknown whether that's Proton specific.
