you gotta switch to proton 7 to successfuly login
Without any modification you won't be able to login, please switch to proton 7

LANG="ru_RU.utf8" --launcher-skip
Добавил русскую локаль с системе (не переключаясь на неё, по умолчанию стоит английская), скачал mfc140.dll и mfc140u.dll, добавив в папку с игрой
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/GWENT The Witcher Card Game/

mangohud %command% --launcher-skip
sometimes need alt+tab to get focus while fullscreen mode

The new launcher cannot complete the login process anymore. Heard that here is a workaround quite complicated for me to try.
The Game runs perfectly fine
%command% --launcher-skip

É preciso usar ALT+TAB para poder sair e voltar ao jogo para interagir com a tela no momento que o jogo abre. Não dá mais para pular o launcher da Red Projekt com o comando --skip-launcher.
not playable

--launcher-skip
No problem with multiplayer.
Just skip the launcher with --launcher-skip and it works amazing.

--launcher-skip
I just hit play and the match starts.
Launcher is black screen so you need to skip it with --launcher-skip but other than that everything works excelent.

Game works like a charm. On the first launch it might take a while to sign in GOG launcher, after that its all good.
MANGOHUD=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG="cpu_temp,gpu_temp" %command%
Played many ranked games. It works flawlessly out of the box.
As a regular GWENT player, its running perfectly on my POP Os 22.04 LTS. It also worked flawlessly in Garuda Linux, Nobara Project 38 and EndevourOS. No problem at all!

install mfc140.dll
text is small especially the text of the cards
You must install mfc140.dll to be able to access the game. Otherwise you will be stuck at the login screen. Also you need to log in once in desktop mode. The game generally works very well. The font is a bit small and a bit hard to read. Controls, graphics and sound are fine.

Blank launcher
Idk what happened, but after a few days, launcher is just a dark window. I returned from experimental to default, but result is same.
Works only on Experimental
Runs perfectly out of the box
No tinkering needed, just install on Steam and play. No performance issues.

Requires login using GOG Galaxy, but I'm using a Linux launched so it didn't work.
3 initial crushes, then runs fine
During the first run there are some shaders compiling so it takes longer (maybe a minute), subsequent launches are quick.
Game crashes 3 times:
- after run
- after logging in to GOG launcher and starting Gwent
- after in-game login
Then it starts right away, goes straight to game (no GOG launcher showing) and works flawlessly without any further crashes.
You'll enjoy it if you don't want to play with friends, otherwise just save your time and get the non steam version on wine
gamemoderun %command%
Playing the steam version with Proton we couldn't connect to any friend matches, online worked fine though. When playing with friends, we had to use normal Wine off of steam.
Previously mentioned friend issue
Fun and worked fine minus the friend thing

Silent crash without extra steps
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

GOG Login did not work at first, it worked after like 2 tries.
Once it starts and the initial lag of the game (I guess it's loading some shaders and such) the game runs flawlessly
So I'm not an expert of Linux and such, so I'm sorry if I can't provide detailed info of why it worked, but I'll share the steps, I'll remove if I discover it useless.
Some days ago I tried to install the game on Steam and adding the 2 .dll files but it didn't work. (It launched but infinite loading at starting screen).
After that in the next days I've tried to install it on Lutris. I followed Lutris instructions which made me install GOG galaxy and then tried to download the game from there, but in the end I couldn't download it so I've removed everything.
Then, after another day, I wanted to give another try on steam to see if I could find some other solution, but this time the game miracously launched (the two .dll files are needed though).
So I don't know if it was just luck and reinstalling it was enough, or if it was thanks to Lutris that maybe installed something useful, or if it was thanks to the GOG installation and logging. Give it a try and in case better elaborate :)
for archlinux, install protontricks, and do
- run
protontricks --gui 1284410
on terminal - followed GUI, set up a wineprefix
- choose
Install a Windows DLL or component
option - choose "mfc140" from list
- wait install complete
and game works Thanks to @bafu
the biggest problem for Chinese users playing under Linux is the inconvenient use of the game accelerator
tested play with bot, works fine.
i can't play online multiplayer mode when not use game accelerator (because GFW), but based on other people's reports, online multiplayer is work.
Game won't start, i've tried 3 diferent proton versions. installed mfc140 and nothing.
Game won't start.
I got to learn how to use AUR in order to play this game, thank you Gwent!
- Install protontricks using the AUR (The wiki does a good job at explaining it)
- Follow Bafu's guide on how to run protontricks (the ID that he seems to be the ID for Gwent)
The game does not run without the DLL that you install using protontricks.
Game will not start after trying protontricks winetricks
Attempted to use protontricks - winetricks to install mfc140.dll, but no success. Game will not start.
Attempted to use protontricks - winetricks to install mfc140.dll, but no success. Game will not start.
default wineprefix -> install Windows DLL -> mfc140
Game did not launch on Steam out of the box. Needed Protontricks to set up mfc140 DLL. In-game needed to set "Graphics Quality" setting to "4K", even though I only have a 1080p monitor, because 2nd highest setting "High" made the game very blurry for me. With "4K" setting game looks and runs absolutely perfect though. No other issues experienced.
FPS capped to 40 (you could set it as low as 20 FPS if you want to save some battery)
Couldn't enter my GOG password. Fix: in desktop mode enter password in text editor like Kwrite, copy it and paste it in the game's login window
The game only launched after enabling Proton GE. After doing the workaround with the password, the game ran perfectly.
Works great out of the box
Works great.
No issues experienced, loads, runs, connects, everything works great.
If you love GWENT and are willing to tinker for 10 minutes then it's worth it for you (Steps provided below)
with mfc140.dll (I will explain)
Personal preferance. The game has a controller setup, but having the right trackpad as a mouse so you can hover over cards instead of moving to them with joystick helps. Also trackpad press = click. Back buttons as A/B if you wish.
TDP at 4-5 and GPU around 500; 30fps (you can even go 20 for this game); About 4.5 hours estimated.
The process is more complicated that it should be. You will probably get the "could not connect to GOG servers" error. To fix this, after installing the dll with Protontricks in Desktop mode you have to RUN the game in Desktop mode first so that you can connect to the servers -->> Note that steam keyboard may not work while in that window, but mouse navigation does work, so open up KWrite Text Editor first, type your password there, then select and copy. Open up the game and then right click and Paste in the Password Window. After the game logs in, you can force quit with Steam+B. Now if you switch back to gaming mode, it should remember that you are logged in and skip the additional GOG launcher window.
Game does not work without you doing the following steps:
- Install GWENT and run it in Gaming mode. Confirm that you enter GOG email and passoword and it doesn't work (important as the username will be locked in)
- Go to Desktop mode, launch the Discover app and Search+Instal Protontricks
- Open the app, select GWENT from the list, Click ok (error appears, click ok)
- Default wineprefix - click ok, Install Windows DLL - click ok
- Scroll down to "mfc140" (should be selected), click ok
- Open Kwrite text editor and type your GOG passoword there, then select and copy it
- Open GWENT from Steam still in Desktop mode. When asked for the password, right click the text field and hit Paste (username should be locked in if you did step 0 from above).
- It should log in now. You can exit at any time (if there's no option, just press Steam+B (long press) to force close).
- Return to gaming mode and launch GWENT. You should be logged into GOG automatically without any launcher window popping up.
Game don't open.
Doesn't work on Arch linux

I was trying to run it with all available Proton versions in Steam but the game was failing to run with every single version. After following "bafu" report and installing "mfc140" everything runs and works perfectly with Proton Experimental, no issues at all. I haven't tried other Proton versions yet. I was also trying to run it through GOG Galaxy and Wine and the game was launching but it wasn't getting my mouse input and so I was not able to do anything.
Used protontricks as follows:
- Downloaded flatpak available from Flathub link at protontricks repo: https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks
- Installed protontricks flatpak
- Ran "protontricks --gui 1284410"
- Followed GUI, set up a wineprefix
- Used "Install a Windows DLL or component" option
- Chose "mfc140" from list
With mfc140 installed, game works!
Minor problem with fullscreen, can't access taskbar
Can't challenge friends on GOG friend list to friendly games on Linux
Can't challenge GOG friends to friendly matches. Otherwise works flawlessly.
Aside from not being able to play friendly games against GOG friends, game works flawlessly
instalar a mfc140.dll
Limited to 20FPS with no issues
Card text is small, but not unreadable for me.
Installed mfc140.dll
Changed right touchpad to behave as a mouse and the trackpad click to be a left mouse click
Lowered TDP to 7...probably could have gone lower but it game me a good battery boost. Solid 60fps.
Card text is a tad small but not unreadable.
Must install the mfc140.dll or game will not open.
LANG="ru_RU.utf8" %command%
I managed to get Cyrillic input working with the launch option above. Some advises:
- Make sure ru_RU.utf8 (change if your language is different) locale is installed and enabled in your system.
- Languages that have characters that don't exist in English have the same issue. Just use the appropriate locale.
- Some Cyrillic locales do not solve the problem, use ru_RU even if you are not from Russia (at least it helped for me but you can play around with this).
- Similar problem occurs in some other games as far as I've learned. This solution should probably work for them too.
- Don't forget to install mfc140 and mfc140u DLLs, otherwise Gwent will not launch.
Copy mfc140 and mfc140u DLLs to the game folder ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/'GWENT The Witcher Card Game'
No Cyrillic input in the Deck Builder
