When getting achievements, any inputs you do get dropped (e.g. if you walk forward and get an achievement, you will stop) for a moment
Native doesn't work. Use Proton
Wasn't able to get it running
Following the guide everyone sends here wasn't successful too. Maybe I skipped some step by accident or did something wrong but it takes so long to do all of this, that I decided not to bother trying anymore
Change Proton version to GE. Start Steam through the terminal. When you launch the game, it will do some tricks to make it run. In the terminal you can see when it's done. First couple of launches after this might fail but eventually it works
Works perfectly out of the box
No issues. Logitech G920 and pedals are fully supported, FFB works
Freezes on the second chapter with out of the box settings. Can't play comfortably on widescreen resolutions. Can't change brightness
-nointro
Enabling fullscreen and changing resolution at the same time doesn't work. First need to change resolution, then apply changes, then enable fullscreen, then apply again
Widescreen resolutions make sensitivity strange (faster horizontally than vertically) and also make the cursor very slow
Game freezes when hacking something (e.g. Security Bot)
Changing brightness doesn't work
I used Steam Tinker Launch and enabled "Proton no ESYNC" and "Proton no FSYNC". This made it so the game wouldn't freeze when hacking something, for example Security Bots
Crashes happen frequently but it's the same way on Windows, judging by Steam reviews
Changing the brightness level doesn't work
7.0rc3-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Disabling D3D11 causes strange artifacts. I used Proton-GE and it seems to have fixed it
It doesn't launch out of the box. I completed the native version and only then tried Proton, so I can't be sure it doesn't crash or something at all
With NVIDIA I had to use some tweaks (fsync, esync, etc), with integrated AMD GPU everything is good out of the box
When I changed my distribution from Arch Linux to Debian Stable my saves would no longer work
Changing the brightness level doesn't work
Blender is native on Linux and is faster than on other platforms
Not sure why anyone would want to use Blender through Proton but it works. I haven't tried any Windows-exclusive add-ons though
Very much playable. Full steering wheel with FFB + shifter support
If a steering wheel gets disconnected, it won't autodetect when reconnected
Crashes sometimes
Not sure if crashes and wheel autodetect happen because of Proton
Native version doesn't work. Use Proton
Apart from online, it works perfectly fine. Full steering wheel + FFB & shifter support
Can't connect to RaceNet
Couldn't get the native version to launch
I had to enable the Experimental version of Proton, other than that it was perfect
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr12,dxr %command%
Some flashing and disappearing textures
Can't alt-tab out of the fullscreen window (or change the virtual desktop)
Crashes happen every few minutes (apparently, only with NVIDIA GPUs). You can minimize them by lowering the graphics settings, setting the FPS limit, playing in windowed, etc.
The Xbox login window at the beginning is very buggy
Works great
My old saves disappear every time I reinstall the game (Steam Cloud Sync issue)
Apart from the saves and settings not being saved in Cloud Sync it's a seamless experience
No tinkering. Works perfectly out of the box.
Sometimes characters don't show up in the cutscenes
Characters don't show up in the cutscenes sometimes. Kind of strange because the cutscenes are pre-rendered. Other than that it's perfect
It works...
Some audio files play multiple times at once (as a result of a mission being started multiple times, for some reason)
Same as what is expected on a regular Windows version
Definitive Edition of Mafia II is known for being broken and exceptionally buggy. With some issues, Proton might be to blame, but I'm not sure. Looking at screenshots and videos online, looks like playing on Windows has all the same issues, so I'm going to conclude it runs as intended
Perfect out of the box
Graphics tablet as a mouse replacement doesn't work
Other than the graphics tablet issue, everything is fine
Works as expected. It's great
I'd say Proton version is even better because there's a better support for mods
Proton and native both work fine but proton wasn't launching out of the box before I installed additional packages for NVIDIA drivers
Fonts in the console and things like net_graph are small and hard to read
Using graphics tablet instead of mouse doesn't work
If native version has 5 fps and proton doesn't launch, try using "nvidia-smi" command when native version is launched, if portal 2 isn't there, it means your gpu isn't used in the game. Install these packages for NVIDIA: sudo pacman -S --needed nvidia-dkms nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils nvidia-settings vulkan-icd-loader lib32-vulkan-icd-loader And for AMD: sudo pacman -S --needed lib32-mesa vulkan-radeon lib32-vulkan-radeon vulkan-icd-loader lib32-vulkan-icd-loader
Perfect out of the box
Both native and Proton versions work well
It's pretty good out of the box
Color depth seems to be 16-bit even when I set it to 32-bit
Mouse sensitivity is constantly changing
On Windows it crashes after 20 or so loads, on Linux it doesn't. So it's even better in some cases.
It's fine. Performs better than on Windows. It uses Qt, so it integrates into your desktop better on KDE Plasma
Haven't tried the Proton version
Works well, with some limitations
With Proton, changing the virtual desktop or minimizing the game consistently ends up with a crash
With the Native version, switching the virtual desktop or alt-tabbing results in the mouse not respecting boundaries of the game's window (e.g. the cursor goes to another screen). Gets fixed with going to settings and changing mouse sensitivity and changing it back
With Proton, semi-frequent stutters (last about 2,5 seconds) every now and then
With Proton, having Steam opened when the game is open, sometimes Steam behaves in a very strange way, it does some actions seemingly without a way to stop it (i.e. tries to enter some codes, hides games from library, tries to uninstall games, all sorts of weird stuff that look like my computer is infected with a virus) but you can kill Steam with 'xkill' command and the game continues to work normally
Native version seems to be better, outside from mouse cursor going to another screen after alt-tabbing or changing virtual desktops
Perfect plug-and-play experience
I haven't had any voice chat issues
I only had one issue. During the Graveyard chapter, when playing as explorer, the game began to stutter and didn't get better until restarting. Not sure if it's a Proton problem
Plug-and-play. No tinkering
Haven't had any voice chat issues
