It does seem to work but with a bit of a performance penalty
frame rate was all over the place
it crashed on me a couple of times
Works absolutely perfectly. As well as it does in windows from what I can see.
Game sometime crashes after Alt-Tabing. Also, pressing Shift+Tab to get the Steam overlay causes the game to freeze every time. It was very annoying, since the prompt for the CD-key required pressing Shift+Tab to dismiss it. However, doing so would always cause the game to freeze.
Expect to lose 10 - 30 fps on highest graphics settings when in a big battle
Game crashed on me about once an hour
Plays quite well aside from the problems I mentioned. Picked it up in the steam sale and was really impressed with how well it played.
Game settings seem to reset on re-launch. For instance, if you enabled V-Sync, saved, quit the game, then launch it again, V-Sync won't be turned on. I experienced this with mouse anchor and V-Sync settings. Very minor gripe, might even be a general game bug rather than a Linux specific one, but I wanted to point it out.
Noticed some minor graphical problems like blurry textures and anti aliasing doesn't seem to work, also had some screen tearing despite V-sync being on.
Main menu seems to slow to a crawl after a while of playing. can go as low as 10-15 fps, once in a match however, performance is much better.
Bro, it actually works!!! Never in all my years of using Linux did I think this game would run on Proton! It's not perfect mind, but I have been playing for a bit now, and honestly, it's amazing. Voice chat works perfectly, sound, input etc had some minor performance issues, but otherwise works really well.
Works very well. All my progress from other platforms synced up, and online play worked perfectly.
doesnt work, uplay comes up asking to login and for activation code, only brings up a black screen after this
wasnt a huge fan of the game, but seems to work well enough on proton. expect a slight hit to performance though
expect slight hits to fps and the occasional freeze
experienced a couple of freezes in game, nothing major though
As long as you dont mind the fps dips, it's actually pretty playable
Struggled to maintain 60fps
Tried to get the game going but it wouldnt start up or anything.
I think others may have found a work around but as is, i have not been able to get it going 'out of the box'
Bought it in the most recent Steam sale. Absolutely would recommend. The Linux experience is fantastic, all things considered
One minor gripe I noticed was when I tried to rebind the commo-rose thing to mouse wheel click, it doesn't work properly, though this might be a general game bug rather than a Linux one.
DO NOT Shift+Tab while in game. The game runs flawlessly, but crashes immediately if you shift+tab. It probably tries to call the Steam overlay and the Origin overlay at the same time which presumably causes it to freeze. The game plays incredibly well otherwise. 60fps @ 1080p on Ultra settings, no probs. Multiplayer and campaign also work no problem.
The game works absolutely flawlessly, aside from the problems I listed. Was able to play for a while in several matches and modes, no problem. Borderless windowed also works perfectly.
Runs like a dream. Probably as well as it does on Windows. Tested mouse & keyboard, various controllers, all runs perfectly.
Maybe had one or two crashes in the several hours I have played this, but honestly, that might be a game problem, rather than a proton problem.
Works great OOTB, zoomed sensitivity was a little high by default but could be changed in settings.
Game ran like a dream, was a little bit glichy on first run but after that, zero problems. Was able to play through a few levels no problem
Mouse acceleration was rediculously high, even on lowest settings
Game worked really well, mouse and keyboard worked flawlessly and everything. It's still a rather tough game though lol
Would get popups saying that the game was unresponsive and asking if i wanted to force quit or wait. This only happened during loading screens. Game wasnt unresponsive. Otherwise worked fine. Would just click wait and it worked ok.
it could be a great game but right now, its quite buggy and glitchy right now imo
characters mouths didn't always sync with the audio. also enemies and npcs made no noises, their guns wouldn't make noise, they wouldn't speak etc
not sure if it was linux specific, but there was a lot of visual bugs very frequently
usual slight hit to performance, was able to get solid 30-60 at ultra 1080p
use proton 5.13, my steam defaulted to using an older version which wouldn't even run the game. also apparently, it helps if you use an amd gpu and use mesa-git drivers
game probably works as well on linux as it does on windows. Disappointing game, but proton seems to work well on it for what it is
game had a lot of missing audio when it launched, seems to be fixed now though
game can chug at times
had some crashes to desktop and freezes
Works like a charm. had a couple of blurry textures and one freeze. otherwise perfect
very occasional texture pop in and blurriness. would usually fix itself after a short while
had maybe one crash during my time with it
Game runs fantastically out of the box, minor issues with game pad and the occasional freezing, runs fine otherwise though
After a while of play with my xbox 360 gamepad, the game would freeze for a moment and then stop taking gamepad inputs. Game still working with M + KB no problem though
At one stage before the last level, the game froze while loading a level. Other than that, game ran perfectly, played through it to the end with no other issues
I played the game from start to finish on this Linux machine. great game, runs really well. Averaged 60fps no problem
Was unable to play at first because I was getting an error saying 'you need to purchase this game'. I wasnt sure what it meant since I purchased the game on Steam. Was stuck for a while until I clicked the 'create account' button in the frontier launcher. This is the only way to validate your purchase if you already had a steam account and a frontier account. Beyond this minor issue, this game works quite well. I was able to complete the training missions and begin playing normally for a while. Mouse and keyboard worked perfectly as well as my xbox elite 2 controller via bluetooth. Graphics were set to low by default, I was able to set them to high and get solid 60fps @ 1080p no problems. Sound worked great too.
It runs but only just. It's significantly choppy and is not at all stable in terms of frame rate and audio syncing. Would not reccomend
Audio could fall out of sync and would stop for a while.
It was very choppy and struggled to maintain even 15 to 20 fps
Kept getting system pop-ups every 5 seconds saying 'this app is not responding, force close/ wait?' If you ignore the prompt for a moment, they seem to stop appearing.
It actually works if you use the latest Glorious Eggroll proton patch. Works surprisingly well once it gets going!!
Frame rate can be all over the place at times.
As above, vanilla runs great, but if, like me, you like modding, it's pretty rough rn IMO. Lutris used to have a decent script to set up Vortex Mod Manager, that doesn't work any more. You can get Mod Organizer 2 to run via Wine and some scripts I've seen on GitHub, but it's slow, laggy, and ugly. Even with this, lots of mods are a pain to set up and run. I recommend against trying to Mod this game on Linux atm unless you hate yourself, lol. I saw on Reddit someone is making a Linux native mod manager called Tux Mod Manager, once that is available, I think modding this game on Linux will be a LOT better.
Game ran great out of the box, had some minor graphical glitches, but they were very minor
Works like a charm. 60fps no problem. Had issues with modding though, but vanilla game works better than windows probably.
experienced a couple of crashes, nothing major though
occasional freezes or hangs, but nothing major
Game would not launch for me. Didnt have time to tinker with it. 'Out of the box' experience is borked for me.
Changing graphics settings disabled fullscreen, was unable to click on the settings button to try change it. Textures also seemed weird. Very dark and hard to see.
Fun game. Works very well. Would reccomend.
Works 'out of the box', was even able to play with mods from thunderstore.io
Native version of the game has no audio gives "NoAudio driver" in the settings menu. Forcing game to run in proton does not work.
Was able to run it on manjaro no problem, since moving back to Ubuntu, while I can play the game, there is absolutely no audio. Could not find a fix online anywhere or resolve this. Going to settings gives "NoAudio driver" underneath the option to select surround sound configuation. Tried using the Vulkan beta, Game would not start. Tried using proton to force running windows version, game simply would not start. every version of Proton would not work. only running natively with Steam Linux Runtime.
For some Reason also, the game in the native version always has a warning message about how game will not run properly on this linux version. This was on Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.10. despite those being among the most popular Linux versons around.
Gameplay seems to work okay once you get into a level. Cutscenes are very glitchy though.
Cutscene audio would glitch out and loop
Cutscenes would glitch out
R* launcher is a pain game is buggy and can freeze/ crash a lot Graphics revert to default, performance is poor
had issues with grass textures and far away geometry looking v blurry
game runs better in borderless windowed, full screen tends to cause performance problems
if your controller disconnects, its impossible to reconnect it in game without re launching the game
game at times struggled to maintain 20-40 fps
crashes and freezes roughly every 3-5 hrs. game sometimes freezes for a moment when entering a new area or starting a new quest
graphics settings sometimes revert to default after relaunching game. also settings menu gave warnings about the game using too much graphics memory and wouldn't let me change certain settings. rebooting my machine seemed to correct this, but only temporarily
also had a bug where the game thought i had not purchased it properly and would prompt me to go to steam store page to purchase. relaunching game fixed this. also i cannot play after recent update. R* launcher gives errors
Performance issues and graphical problems render this game basically unplayable.
Grass and other textures seemed to be extremely blurry even if set to high in settings.
This game absolutely chugs. Managed maybe 15 fps even on low graphics settings. As others have mentioned, older versions of proton may run better. But on Proton 7, experimental and GE, the game is unplayable
Game seemed to be more playable awhile back, was able to play through the first chapter okay. However, it runs very poorly now (on newer versions of Proton, GE experimental etc) , to the point it can't reccomend it to people on Linux tbh
It might be a little rough around the edges but it is definetely playable. Expect a heavy hit to your frame rate
sometimes the audio wouldn't play unless you restarted it
some times textures would be missing and shadows can render incorectly. And there was one time the world map just disappeared
Even with my kinda mid range machine, the game right now struggled to maintain 30 fps
It crashed on me a couple of times unexpectantly but the autosave meant that I was able to get right back to where I ws
Like Rome: Total War, it's a little rough around the edges, but overall it works pretty well and you can enjoy it.
some slight graphical errors like missing textures and weird shadows but these were rare
Slight hit to performance, similar to standard Rome: Total War
Mouse sensitivity was crazy high by default. Not impossible to play with, but definitely a bit annoying. Didnt seem to have any option to change it in game.
I dont think it's specific to Linux, but it does chug performance wise from tome to time.
Game ran like a dream out of the box. Played through a few levels no problem. It was great
Game would not start for me. Did not tinker with it. Out of the Box experience seems to be borked.
Game ran the first time with a slight hit to its performance. would not startup again even with the tweaks mentioned here.
Game ran on first launch, would not run at all after that.
Game will not start after initial startup.
Had a few issues on intial run, updated my machine, Game now runs great with no problem. Is still a little bit glitchy at times
Game was glitchy as hell on first run. Updated some drivers and reinstalled game, rebooted system. ran perfectly fine since then.
Mouse acceleration was rather high.
-language "english"
For anyone getting a popup saying 'Engine Error - File corruption detected. Please repair or re-install the game' on launch, a quick fix seems to be right-click on the game in your library -> properties -> general -> launch options -> and paste in the box
-language "english"
Worked for me, seems to be an Origin issue. Game won't launch otherwise.
Okay, so the game is playable for me now* but only after I either verify file integrity or switch language from English to something else. Game can run once without issue, but if I try to run again, it no longer works and gives the engine error popup before crashing.
again, game runs once flawlessly, if you close it and try to run again, it gives that engine error popup.
Either have problems with Origin crashing, or else i get "engine error" messages on launch. Have NOT at all been able to play
The game will work and will slow to a crawl as the game goes on and as you discover more factions. Frame rate was very negatively affected
It sometimes got significantly choppy both inside and outside of battle. Struggled to maintain 30fps
Used to be much worse. Have been able to play multiple hour long sessions with no crashes. Performance still leaves a lot to be desired.
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_FRAME_RATE=30 %command%
Stutters and slowdowns in battle gameplay
Can play with no crashes but expect some performance issues.
It has a couple of bugs but I thoroughly emjoyed getting back into to Tropico on Linux. It ran a bit better than I expected tbh
I noticed some crackling, especially if I alt-tabbed out of game for a moment. Sometimes in game, the music/radio would stop too, but this was rare.
Slight dip in frame rate especially if you have a large town/city on your island
It crashed on me unexpectantly but only once or twice. Thank god for autosave.
Sometimes, If i check the in game almanac, the graph towards the bottom of the report wouldnt work. The lines would be there but would be stuck on zero making it look like you have zero population or zero trade etc over a given time.
Works really well honestly
I have a multi-monitor setup, when playing this game, I noticed that the mouse cursor moves off screen when moved to the edge, like as though it was in windowed mode, there was no option in game to toggle between fullscreen and windowed though so it may just be a bug. Was a minor annoyance during a long sandbox game.
mouse cursor moves out of game and on to other monitor
