PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command%
Download the standalone installer and install that overtop of Steam for a bit better experience http://files.trackmaniaforever.com/tmunitedforever_setup.exe
Great game, community recommends installing standalone (just run through regular wine and install into steam dir, might have to re-enter your CD key after doing it). Game runs flawlessly, any issues with controller are just from the game being old!
I had to enable Steam Input in the Steam settings.
8W
Joysticks dont work when launched via 'Settings'
First time launch must be done via 'Setttings' option to enter CD key
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
The game either runs upside down or doesn't show the menus at all. Adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to the launch options fixed it for me.
And now we don't have to go through the tedious process of manually installing the blurry textures patch anymore :)
The main menu will not work unless you launch the "Trackmania United Forever Settings", click "Configure", click "Advanced", and in the Display tab, make sure that Shader Quality is set to PC1 (or PC0). Anything above PC1 will not render the main menu for me, it will just show a spinning globe.
What I did is made sure the Customise checkbox was checked, then selected the Preset "VeryHigh Quality", then set it back to "None". When you set it to None, it allows you to freely select settings. Then I switched Shader Quality to PC1. Otherwise, I cranked everything else up as high as it would go and it runs buttery smooth.
Runs fine.
Averaging about 85-90fps in game, peaking at just over 100fps.
Game runs perfect
Getting average frame rates of about 120fps, peaking at about 180fps.
Works flawlessly
Works perfectly, all issues and fixes are exactly the same as on Windows
changed button mapping for brake and checkpoint reset
stutter on a few default tracks, not unplayable
works perfectly
no problems here. even mods like tm-unlimiter work with online-play
works
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Don't forget to install the official patch that fixes low res textures
Game runs upside down without PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
. After downloading the patch, it doesn't even open without that launch option.
It's a very old game that requires some fixes to be installed manually and a little bit of tinkering (even on windows), so expect minor headache trying to make it run.
Works very well with proton :)
It runs well and it's good ;)
Works fine, some not very important issues
Sometimes there is a minor artifact in form of horizontal line at the bottom of the screen (especcially on Coast maps)
Game starts on weird position on desktop (only 10% of it is visible, rest is outside of the screen). Minimizing and maximizing a few times fixes the issue
PROTON_OLD_GL_STRING=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Works great! Only needs a community controller profile.
PROTON_OLD_GL_STRING=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Only starts through Steam at all with very specific start arguments or Proton 4 (w/ bugs). Wasn't fun since there was no indication for it whatsoever, runs instantly with native wine.
Game runs flawlessly out of the box
Ran out of the box with no issues, performance was indistinguishable from native Windows version.
Game runs perfectly Proton-7.1-GE-2. Had the exact same performance as if i would play on windows.
7.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Flawless gaming experience. Installed using Lutris, as I don't own the game on Steam. Mouse in menus doesn't work.
Installed using this install script, which doesn't require the disc. Instead, it requires a downloadable installer from the publisher, which is available under player.trackmania.com.
Controller and keyboard input worked flawlessly (which is the important part here, let's be real), but I couldn't get mouse input working. Just a minor inconvenience for navigating the menus, the gaming experience is not impacted by this.
Works better if you install this patch https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=448953593 (run the exe through wine)
Default graphics settings were all wrong. Most users should be able to crank the settings.
the experience was (at least for me) degraded to a point where I simply gave up on the game entirely
low resolution textures
fullscreen would sometime works, sometimes not, usually locking the game to a different (and smaller) monitor, generally requiring a restart
everything relating to window management is completely broken for me
The game didn't work when i tried it on any of the 5.XX-XX versions, so i had to use 4.11-XX, which doesn't have any problems so far.
Runs great, with no performance degradation as far as I can tell

This is adapted from the forum post: http://www.tm-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=196489#p196489
After doing the aforementioned running on proton 5.0-9 my game ran at max graphics, with fully working audio. When running in proton 4.11, everything was graphically perfect but I had no car audio.
Everything works
Single player works well with current Proton version. Multiplayer not tested.
Low quality textures
Installs fine and seems to be ok in menu aside from some low textures, but crashes as soon as I load into a server
WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7200/pfx winetricks d3dx9
WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7200/pfx winetricks videomemorysize=2048
Engine sound is missing
Custom mods have issues
Custom mods might not work as expected
Works well but with lower performance than on Windows. Audio does not work but listening to your own music while playing is better anyway.
No audio whatsoever
Low quality textures even with high settings. The fix was to increase video memory size with winetricks with the following WINEPREFIX=/path/to/steamapps/compatdata/7200/pfx winetricks videomemorysize=2048
Low quality textures.
There are a few errors on startup and low resolution textures. The game itself runs pretty well, but is missing some audio.
Starts with 2 errors while trying to star the performance check you can just ignore. Texture bug is the same as in Windows and can either be patched or get rid of with protontweaks. Only problem still is the sound, you don't have engine or menu sounds. Music and environmental sounds are playing though, so it's still playable imho.
Textures are low-quality (and cannot be set to an higher setting) due to the game wrongly reporting the available video RAM on recent GPUs. This can be fixed by installing a patch.
Needed to use " protontricks 7200 d3dx9 " and " protontricks 7200 videomemorysize=2048 " for the textures to render properly. Even then, had to lower the Texture Quality to Medium to stop the game from freezing or crashing when I finished a track.
Audio Issues as descriped in other reviews but textures can be fixed just like in windows (http://www.tm-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=196489#p196489)
