The arguments make the game run with native Love2D (the engine the game uses), Steam integration is basically missing as far as I can tell because of this.
The game should be able to get a native port without much effort on the developer's part.
While some tinkering was required on my Arch desktop, my NixOS laptop was able to run the game out of the box. (both on Hyprland Wayland)
Did not have these issues with the Itch.io release. Stick with that one if you can for the time being.
Game always crashes about 5 rounds in (probably about 30 minutes?). If the "countdown" is tied to framerate, it might take longer for the game to crash for others as I have a 165hz monitor.
(tried running it on Windows 11 on the same hardware as well and the game ran fine, albeit with way lower framerates and stupidly long loading times)
Setting to windowed and manually forcing fullscreen with your DE/WM lets you get a borderless fullscreen experience (game handles the resolution change no problem)
Too laggy, no other problems (runs great on Windows)
The game ran significantly worse than on Windows, lagging (HD 720) even on lowest settings
Getting back to the game results in a black screen
gamemoderun gamescope -w 1920 -h 1080 --mangoapp -- %command%
Gamescope can be used to make the game work in "borderless fullscreen"
With enough tinkering you can play the game at high refresh rates (have a 165hz monitor personally) and with Geode modding

General jank, fixed with MegaHack and Geode
Took me about an hour to set up without guidance, should be like 15 minutes if you can find a tutorial.
Controller issues (this game only, Pro Controller, Steam input)
Wired Nintendo Switch Pro Controller gets randomly disconnected and reconnected (only in this game) and sometimes even crashes the game (and even Steam somehow) entirely.
Wireless Pro Controller works pretty well, but my Bluetooth adapter can't handle both my headphones at high quality and controller at the same time.
Doesn't work native, doesn't work with Proton GE, doesn't work with Proton Experimental
Couldn't get it to work at all
Had to lower graphics settings a bit, playable
It could just be badly optimised, but the game didn't run as well as expected, was playable after lowering some settings
The experience has been absolutely flawless and at no point was I reminded that the game is running under Proton.

the game never became unplayable, never dropped below 40 fps
Too laggy to play
Minor smearing (might not be the right term) on the transition between main menu and achievements.
When in windowed mode, dragging the window would make the game almost need to catch up... it was behind in where it should display on the screen.
The game runs at less than 5 fps on average after I get past the main menu.
After tinkering the game runs at 165 fps and I can play with my Dualsense controller without any issues.

protontricks 351990 dotnet452
and riffapi.hobune.stream server patch
Game starts without Protonticks DotNET 4.5.2 install, however crashes seemingly whenever it receives data from the server. (note: game requires a server connection and thus will not work without a patch)
I was also experiencing some stuttering (probably shader compilation?) before adding Gamemode to the launch options.

Works without major problems
Negligible performance difference
Had to tweak my window manager, the game was laggy and setting it up was a hassle
had to tweak AwesomeWM to force the game to open and stay fullscreen
It wasn't unplayable, but not a good experience
The settings utility is slightly more borked on Windows, Steam input doesn't completely block out invalid controller input
Been troubleshooting this on and off for weeks and it won't launch no matter what I do
mangohud gamemoderun %command%
Played through the entire singleplayer on Linux, have concerns about multiplayer
fullscreen did not hide window decorations, Origin notifications minimise the game
the game would crash every 2 hours or so
the experience was (at least for me) degraded to a point where I simply gave up on the game entirely
low resolution textures
fullscreen would sometime works, sometimes not, usually locking the game to a different (and smaller) monitor, generally requiring a restart
everything relating to window management is completely broken for me
Game runs at less than half the framerate than what I get under Windows no matter my graphics settings.
Stuck at loading screen, could be an Intel iGPU issue, worked fine on AMD desktop
Native has a flashing background issue in the Bat Country stage. I was playing native up until now.
Tried running with Experimental, 6.3-8 and 3.7-8
This game is an RPG Maker XP game
