Saw weird black squares in the nautuloid while fog setting was set to medium. Seting it to Ultra fixed this.
Works with the workarounds specified by another report. Running GE Proton, adding the specified launch options and deleting Data/PsoCache.pak
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Using Glorious Eggroll proton version Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF - https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Intro movie remained black using default proton 5.0.9 and the game wouldn't progress. Once I switched to the GE fork of proton it works fine.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
It works fine with the normal latest version of proton out of the box, but the intro cinematic won't play due to missing MF DLLs. It can be skipped and the game will work normally. If you're like me and want to have it work 100%, you can use a GE fork of Proton like I did or go the MF-install route.
Very fun game and works perfectly
Minor issue: Freezes on exit and won't allow me to control my LXQT session anymore. Need to drop to TTY to kill it when I want to exit the game.
Works great straight out of the box
Latest game update fixed the hang on exit for me. Simply works flawlessly now.
As long as you use a custom controller profile, it works. Doesn't work with the default controller profile.
In game changed throttle and brake to right and left trigger respectively
Works perfectly fine on older proton version. Unable to connect to server using proton 6.3-7 or GE proton
Seems to work fine after eSync is turned off and a patched version of proton is installed.
Used this proton version to get past xbox live login issue: https://github.com/rkfg/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/halo_mcc_test
Works, but mouse cursor is a bit sluggish in some areas. But it doesn't affect gameplay.
The menu is basically a powerpoint presentation. But the game plays smoothly if you set the graphics to low (which is a bit of pain to do with the state of the main menu)
Works fine on Deck with an older proton version, as long as you drag yourself through the slow menu.
Works fine on standard proton version, but with slight input lag. Works slightly better using GE proton.
Had slight input lag with standard proton. Using GE fork it worked smoothly.
Still a minor issue with 3dmark while using a Glorious Eggroll release of proton, but not a big deal.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Used version Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF of Glorious eggroll's proton version, as it already has the media foundation dlls built in. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
After about 4 hours of continuous play, 3dmark stopped working in game. After stopping and starting the game again it was fine.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF - https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
When trying to use out of the box, everything works except the introduction video. So you can play without tinkering just fine. With the GE fork of Proton the intro video also works and so far I didn't notice any issues.
Works great out of the box with some occasional stuttering
Some stuttering here and there for short period of time. Usually when a big new enemy shows up. Probably shader cache related
I did check the audio settings because other reports mentioned you need to switch to openAL, but it was already set to this setting. Maybe the devs are working on getting it Steam Deck compatible?
It does still give the error message about not being able to check display driver at startup, but you can just cancel out of that and launch the game.
Starts up and works without any issues
It takes a pretty long time for the menu to show up, but once it does it works fine.
Unless you can live with the stuttering framerate at certain parts in the game, I wouldn't recommend it.
Installed protontricks and with that installed vcrun2017. Then it works. By default the new game doesn't work. Protontricks: https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks
Command to run after installing Protontricks: protontricks 271260 vcrun2017
Menus work great and gameplay at first seems to work. However, planetary exploration introduces a ton of stutter, even though framerate appears to remain high. Also a lot of stutter in hyperspace and when a lot of other ships are on the screen. Turning down graphics settings didn't appear to have much of an effect.
Runs, but as soon as you target the battleship in the first mission the game crashes to desktop
Game starts fine and has great performance. However, after about 10 minutes of play the mouse stops working in menus. When you alt-tab out of the game and go back in, the mouse will work. But as soon as you close the menu, your character will be uncontrollable, which requires to alt-tab out and in again. This effectively renders the game uncomfortable to play.
Also tried playing using Lutris, Wine 4.0-RC2 + DXVK 0.94. Game works flawlessly there. Hopefully it will be fixed in proton soon.
Works fine if you use WINED3D. Works better than on Windows if you use run_scaled, because you can then fullscreen the game.
Not a Linux specific issue, but as of writing the game does not have a fullscreen mode. I was annoyed by it to try and fix it. You can scale up the game and play full screen as follows:
sudo apt install xpra xvfb
git clone https://github.com/kaueraal/run_scaled.git
cd run_scaled
cp run_scaled ~/.local/bin/
Then, set the launch options of the game as follows:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 run_scaled --scale=1.5 %command%
Adjust the scaling factor of 1.5 to fit your resolution. 1.5 works for an 1080p monitor.
Once the game starts, right-click the title bar and click fullscreen (at least in LXQT. I'm sure other DE's have a similar option.)
Not a Linux specific issue. Fullscreen is not available on Windows too.
Installed the standalone version from Lutris
In game: Disable VSYNC, enable frame limit. Otherwise performance is shoppy. If using Nvidia, also disable GPU particles or the game will randomly freeze. Runs flawlessly with these settings.
