Game wouldn't start without using wine3D, but that might be because of my older videocard. Single player works fine, wasn't able to try any of the multiplayer (yet).
Got an "failed to extract" error when first trying to launch the game. Switched back to Proton 3.7.8 and was able to start it without problems. Then went back to 3.16-3 beta and worked fine too.
Did not test out custom scripts. Creating games and running them works fine out of the box.
Game wont boot. You might see the screen flash.
Tried renaming some files. Battlegrounds.exe is the original, and battlegrounds_x1.exe is the clone campaigns. player.exe is the launcher to switch between the 2. Renaming any of the campaigns to player.exe will result in a black screen when it should play the intro movies. Renaming or deleting the intro movies doesn't result in anything.
The game can be run with the "Emulate a virtual desktop" setting enabled. This can be done by enabling the setting using the winecfg tool using the following command : "WINEPREFIX=/home/username/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/356500/pfx/ winecfg". Just replace username with your username. Besides that in the game folder the executable "player.exe" has to be renamed to something else. Then rename "Battlegrounds.exe" to "player.exe" to play the original campaigns, or rename "battlegrounds_x1.exe" to "player.exe" to play the expansion pack. Menu's have some graphical glitches and I had problems scrolling up. That can be circumvented by using the arrow keys. I played this way through the first mission of OOM-9's campaign.
Other users claim this game is running out of the box without any issues on hardware that has Vulkan support.
This game crashes immediately on my hardware if this launch flag is not used.
Installed Special K Tales of Vesperia Fix from https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SpecialK_Mods/discussions/18/1744483505466992619/
Also disabled vsync (0) in the games settings.ini and enabled windowed mode (1). (after launching the game I was able to set it to borderlessmode (2)
Game would crash right after the company logo's if the windowMode line in settings.ini wasn't changed to 1(windowed) or 2(borderless).
Mouse seems to act weird in menu's. Might be because of the borderless mode. In-game there don't seem to be any problems and all menus can be navigated by keyboard.
I haven't tested any controllers.
Game can sometimes crash without reason. Performance is lower than on windows. Closing the game keeps the game process running in the background Sometimes the game won't start at all and gives a black screen. Restarting Steam seems to allow the game to boot again. Mods aren't working at all, Steam Workshop or manually installed. Though DLC does work. Sometimes distorted audio plays when voices or background noises should be played. Reboot the game to fix it.
Even though it has all these issues, the game seems playable from beginning to end.
