Game has really big fps drops which slow gameplay to a crawl while CPU and GPU were at 10%
Framerate started at 60 but after 20 min it went to 30 slowing the game (physics linked to fps)
Works great!

Text can be small to read.
Swap Left and Right Trigger
Works perfectly fine after instalation.

swap primary and secondary skill bindings
TDP set to 5W, with HRS enabled
Intro video has no audio at 6W tdp or lower

No issues installing and launching. Runs at a stable 60 fps.
Played multiple runs with no stutters or slowdowns. Hardware: System76 Pangolin laptop.

45 fps cap

Game ran unplayably slow on Wayland until switching to Proton 7.0-6, but was fine on X11 out of the box
Wayland seems to be a wild card right now, working fine for some, but not for everyone. I found specifically using KDE Plasma / Wayland I had to change my Proton settings to version 7.0-6, but doing that the game runs full speed and I can set the grpahics options to whatever I wanted. Same setup with X11 instead, it worked on Experimental right out of the box.
Had to change to fullscreen on initial launch/change game resolution in games menu to have readable UI/Text

It runs extremely well, no issues at all from my end.
No fuss, plays great on deck and desktop

Works perfectly out of the box with vsync off
Turning on V-Sync made the game drop to around 20-30 FPS, and since the game is based on your framerate (for some awful reason) the entire game slows down
The game let's u change ui size

PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Had to go to configurations file and change resolution manually
Low framerate and laggy multiplayer until forced switch to D11
The issues I experienced may be tied to the Nvidia 545 driver

Did some tinkering to keybinds to my needs, but this isn't necessary at all.

Disable Steam Overlay
The game frequently crashes on startup if Steam Overlay is enabled. No crashes with Steam Overlay disabled.

Works fine, no problems at all, had no issues playing with xbox controller

DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
On this laptop however, using an external display such as a TV results in the 'slow mo' bug as others have called it. The framerate is very unstable and the game runs slowly. Using the launch options Aperture posted (also attached to this review) resolves this issue, where the game then runs a stable 60fps.
If playing on an NVIDIA laptop, you must run in NVIDIA Performance Mode, NOT On-Demand mode if playing in Fullscreen. Otherwise you will experience crashes, but that is not exclusive to this game. It's a bug in current 535 and 545 nvidia drivers.

This game is a dream to play on Steam Deck. In 10 hours of playing I did get one period of unexpected slowdown, not even during a particularly busy gameplay section, but it was a one-off and I haven't had any issues since. Some text is small, but by no means unreadable.

DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
stuck at around 40fps before applying launch options

- 5 Watt TDP
- Set refresh rate to 60Hz as the game cannot excede 60fps
Set the game to fullscreen and alternative text to fix it
Game launches in window regardless of fullscreen setting in options. Need to go to options, untick fullscreen and tick it back on. May need to repeat this 4-5 times.

gamemoderun %command%
I need to manually place the window each time otherwise the gnome bar thing at the top overlays it
It would seem the game can't run at 60 on my decently specced PC and slows down and speeds up randomly so the combat changes pace a lot.
Had several crashes (5+) mid runs and it just wipes your run 🙃
Currently the game crashes far too much and has lots of slowdown when using proton

gamemoderun mangohud %command%

Mostly stable. Use launch options below if using external displays/TV to avoid slowmo bug. If experiencing system crashes only play windowed
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Only on this laptop, playing in fullscreen will result in a total system lockup unexpectedly. It can happen as soon as 5 mins, or take as long as 40mins. It seems random. Using sysrq commands / tty do not work when the game causes the freeze. Unfortunately system logs do not reveal the issue. Does not occur on my desktop. Tried various drivers/kernels. To subvert the issue play in windowed mode.
Since my prior review, I had no issues on my desktop. On this laptop however, using an external display such as a TV results in the 'slow mo' bug as others have called it. The framerate is very unstable and the game runs slowly. Using the launch options Aperture posted (also attached to this review) resolves this issue, where the game then runs a stable 60fps.
See the crashing mentioned on fullscreen issues section; Play in windowed mode to avoid. Seems unique to nvidia/intel laptops. No issues with single dedicated nvidia gpu on desktop
I'm changing my 'launching straight from steam' recommendation to 'No' because of the system locking bug and the slow-mo bug that will occur for some displays unless using launch options.

Game runs in slow-motion
Running this game natively on Arch Linux or through Proton runs perfectly except there appears to be a slow motion bug present on Linux but not on Windows 10. I ruled out this being due to hardware and is likely an issue either with the game engine that Risk of Rain Returns uses or some sort issue because I'm using a Flatpak version of Steam (likely the first based on my research). I'm assuming it's because time is tied to framerate and there seems to be a weird framerate bug in the game currently. Probably will get patched soon.

Unless you're using Proton Experimental right now, the game may occasionally freeze if you pause and alt-tab away from/back to the game.
While running it on the default proton would result in occasional crashing when paused, running the game in Experimental is flawless!

DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
ran at anywhere from 20-50 fps without the launch settings specified
Crashes on startup at either 4% or 11-12% Occurs after sleep cycle on computer, some combination of restarting gnome (alt+f2, typing "r" and hitting enter) and restarting steam seems to mend the issue until next sleep cycle
Overall pleasant once i use those start up commands and get it running, hopefully later versions of proton iron out that weird bug
In the intro sequence there are some minor issues. It sounds like there is missing some half seconds here and there.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
I would recommend making the game "full-screen mode" on launch, otherwise the text can be small and blurry. With the change it is perfect!

switching to proton 7.0.6 did the trick with seldom crashes on startup and the framerate dropping to 30fps
