Crash after a few seconds into new game
Tried Proton GE 7.35, Proton 6, 7, all have same problem. Also tried using D3D11 instead of vulkan, disable esync, and forced use openssl-1.0 libraries (some reports that openssl a problem for newer intel CPUS).
tried various steps, see tinker notes
On newer Intel CPUs you must add a registry key to avoid crashing a few seconds into the game. See report.
add string variable to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment" with name "OPENSSL_ia32cap" and value ":~0x20000000"
Game doesn't perform very well, but this is true on Windows as well
Works fine without crashes with regedit tweak
Heavy flickering
Low framerates
Text in the native version occasionally becomes near-transparent, and cannot be scrolled. Regular proton also has this issue. GE-Proton resolves this issue but has heavy screen flickering.
tried switching wined3d backend between opengl/vulkan
Probably not a great game for a controller because of the MMO style skills, but just to note: simultaneous mouse/joystick (ie, steam deck or steam controller trackpads) input is not recognized.
as many others have said, there is a persistent framerate stutter. every few seconds you will have a microstutter for 50ms or so. For me it is unrelated to playtime length, proton version, or renderer (dxvk, wined3d with opengl, wined3d with vulkan).
limiting the framerate helps to mitigate this issue but it is still noticible. Reducing draw distance via ingame options also appeared to help somewhat.
Worked flawlessly, and performed much better than the native version. Steam controller worked without issues.
gamemoderun %command%
Unplayable <20FPS with lowest settings
Needed to disable D3D11 to get it to launch. Seems fine otherwise, chokes up a bit after loads
Works well, but requires you to change to Software Render in the game configuration tool instead of D3D.
Had to revert Proton to version 7, Experimental would not work.
Constant random crashing, game unplayable
Everything works but on 12th gen i7 I needed the launch option to use 64bit version of EL.
OPENSSL_ia32cap=:~0x20000000 %command%
Massive FPS drops during dust eclipse (DLC), had to disable them. Also to install the ELCP community patch, run Explorer from protontricks prefix, then choose ELCP executable: protontrics 289130 --gui
64bit version fails to start, 32bit version works fine
Tried different versions of proton (4,5,6), various flags to change the render (vulkan/wined3d), startup flags (-useembedded, -novideo) but in every case the 64bit version shows the splash screen then silently crashes. No useful output in the game's output log that I can see.
As others have noted, civ intro videos don't play. I experienced a lot of graphic glitches and performance issues when I disabled D3D11, so be sure to try and launch with and without PROTON_NO_D3D11 and see which works better for you. Besides that it's been rock steady, not one crash.
%command% -dx11
Use -dx11 flag because the default is dx12 which crashes on launch. Significant performance problems without FSR3; low frame rates and occasional freezes.
I had to install dotnet48 to get the game to start, otherwise it would freeze at around 50% on initial load
Game prevents "alt tabbing" entirely, I couldn't change workspaces.
Unplayable due to massive stuttering. Tried with and without controller and disabled Mouse Lock, made no difference.
Game itself seems great, but the demo has desync issue which prevents you from playing the available game mode in multiplayer
performance not great, but playable
Nearly instant desync after loading into multiplayer games
[wargames demo version]
gamescope
heavy flickering/skipping in the menu, not present while playing
Besides menu problems, game performs smoothly
there were some cloud save issues but the dev fixed them
game begins fine and shows 200+ FPS but begins lagging after a minute or two; game runs at half speed or less even with high FPS. Not playable
Game works fine, no problems.
A little framey on my setup but nothing serious.
Works flawlessly, including multiplayer
Exactly what you should expect from Klei; game runs great and is tons of fun to play. This is another Klei banger.
Borked
Native has a bug where it doesn't capture the Alt key correctly (i3). Game crashes on launch with Proton (DX9 or standard version)
Game silently fails to launch using proton, I think it's somehow configured wrong. If you add the executable to a bottle with DXVK the game runs great (better than native) and avoids the bug when using Alt.
Massive FPS drops during later boss battles. Huge CPU utilization (~90%) and low GPU utilization (~20%), with unplayable 5-10 frames with some bosses, irrespective of graphics settings.
Fun game, great if you enjoyed original space pirates and zombies.
Seems good but needs better GFX card than I have
I couldn't get over 20 frames out of my 1070 on low settings, I think it's not well optimized. Other than that there were no problems.
Progression-blocking crash right after the tutorial gets to "survive as long as you can." The crash wipes progress and repeats at the same point.

tried with various GE builds (7.41-7.54) and Proton Experimental, crashes before getting to menu.
Works great but needs to use WINED3D
game crashes on launch using vulkan, needed PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
