MANGOHUD=1 %command% --skip-launcher
Works perfectly as of 8.11.2023 with newest updates
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=6:0,2,4,6,8,10 MANGOHUD=1 %command%
go to the game install directory -> players -> config.cfg and edit seta com_maxfps
to your monitor refresh rate (this is part of the fix for the sluggish mouse)
The game is just old and badly optimized so it does not fully take advantage of modern hardware
The game crashed like twice in a 3-4 hour play session. Mostly between missions
Sluggish mouse feeling
When I lauched the game at first even thou i had about 80-90 fps the game felt reall choppy. I found out that it just does not handle modern CPUs with a lot of cores/threads. So after limiting the amount of cores the game uses by adding WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=6:0,2,4,6,8,10
launch options it was much smoother.
Also for the sluggish mouse effect to go away you should go lock your FPS so that it's completely stable. I had it at 90 first but some missions i had drops even below 50 so decided to lock at 75. Also make sure the
gamemode mangohud %command%
At the beginning could start it but after some more tries it started working perfectly (it was probably my fault)> Played a few time with my friends for a few hours and didn't have any problems
Works out of the box but has buggy EA launcher client
The game works but when you start the game first, the EA launcher will open and there will be a popup about admin permissions. The problem is for me that poput is black. To fix this just press "Tab" on that black popup and it should be fixed.
Very bad graphical glitch or complete crashes
MANGOHUD=1 %command%
First tried starting the game with Proton9.0-2 but it crashed on the start cutscene/animation. After switching to GE-Proton9-2 I was able to go to the main menu but because of graphical glitches you almost can't see anything. The game crashes pretty easily as well.
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1 %command%
protontricks 50620 d3dx9 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_46 d3dcompiler_47
Game Settings do not have 2560x1440 resolution
Crashes when alt-tabbing
- After you install the game, launch it and close after loading it for the first time.
- Then in your terminal run: "
protontricks 50620 d3dx9 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_46 d3dcompiler_47
" - Add "
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=2:0,1
" in your steam game launch settings. - And for the cutscenes to work properly you will also need a GE Proton. I used GE-Proton9-11 and it worked fine.
No cutscenes
The game itself runs basically perfect out of the box on Proton9.0-2, but with one caveat. No cutscenes.
I only realized I have the Warmastered Edition of the game after I finished the origingal one. The original one had much worse issues. Also this version does not crash when Alt-Tabbing.
For some reason getting the cutscenes to work took me waaay longer than I expected and I definitely wouldnt call myself a linux beginner. At first I also wanted to make the script from https://gitlab.com/steevyp/mf-installcab_steamdeck work with Proton9.0-2, just because. Gave up after some time and I recommend just going with 8.0-5.
When I first run the script and copied the .dll, I still didn't have cutscenes. What helped was to verify files integrity on Steam and run the script again.
Native build has issues. Force enable proton
First I played the native build of the game but had really bad freezes every 1-3 minutes that would completely freeze my PC including sound for around 3-10 seconds. When I switched to Proton9.0-2 the issues were gone
Was able to start and finish the game out of the box without tinkering with anything
Everything worked as expected, the game can actually open links in the browser as well (part of the game). At first I was just a bit confused about the web
command, but then i realized you actually need to also pass a link as a parameter so web yourlink.com
.
Perfect. Local/couch coop works flawlessly with 2 controllers as well.
Did not expect it to work that well. First tested both of my controllers on a online controller test website, everything worked fine. In game also directly detected both controllers.
Graphical glitches if using normal proton version. GE Proton required
At first when i started the game it had some weird glitches in the starting menu and couldnt play, but I realized that my global steam setting had an older version of proton selected (8.0.5). After I changed it to 9.0-2 everything worked flawlessly
Works with no issues OOTB
At the start of the game i had slight stutters but it went away after that. Probably stuff then loaded into cache. Might also be a problem on windows.
Like the other comments say, you cant download flash player installer using the launcher. You need to download the installer manually and choose the file in the launcher when it asks for it
Perfect experience out of the box
Played the new 1.0 release multiplayer with a friend and had no issues at all
Window opens and closes immedietly
When you press "Play" on steam a small window menu of Sniper Elite V2 open where you can choose "Start" or "Support" but when you want to start, a black window opens and closes immedietly.
Did not notice any issues in the game.
Did not use any mods or anything and the game works out of the box.
After release still no linux support
The game starts and you can see the initial menu for a second but then a message along the lines "System integrity violated" appears and the game crashed. Sad
Can play with no issues
When the game first launched it did not work on linux but now I've played tens of hours on linux and didn't notice any issues
Works with no issues on Proton 9.0-2. Changing settings, resolution and played through the tutorial perfectly fine.
