Works great with GE; didn't launch from Larian launcher originally (default compatibility)
Game is super intensive to run, and has frequent visual glitches due to DLSS and lower graphical options.
If global illumination is turned on, but is not set high enough, I notice huge black flickering under bushes. On high and above for global illumination it's reduce, and on 4K the problem goes away. This is most likely a problem with DLSS more so than the actual game itself, but since DLSS is forced, and the game is hard to run, expect frequent visual glitches on most hardware.
Controller only detects when running GE or other compatibility settings. I found on my first boot my controller didn't work at all, and I had to restart my game. It's been working ever since though, with no issues.
Game is really hard to run, that's a given with it being a next gen title, however there is a very noticeable frametime stutter that makes your game feel like it's lagging even when it's not. Adding in how intensive it is, gameplay can sometimes feel choppy, and you'll probably have to turn down a lot of settings.
Sometimes a enemy would raise above the ground. There is also some floating foliage, and blurry/no resolution textures on mountain sides.
Overall the experience is amazing, it's such a fun and great looking game, even when not running on max settings. Definitely worth the hype. If your card is worse than a 3070, I can't say the experience on 1440p or higher will be ideal if you're wanting prestine visual fidelity, which is unfortunate. Ranging from 50-60 fps with a wide mix of settings at 1440p. If you're happy with running the game on low graphics, the game is fun enough to still be enjoyed.
Doesn't open.
Wanted to try this game out because all the borked reviews are from years ago. With the latest Proton Experimental and GE compatibility layers, it still doesn't work.
Multiplayer lags sometimes, but overall good.
Random lag sometimes in multiplayer
Switch to 9.0-2 for stable experience.
The game ran really bad until I switched to 9.0-2.
Without Proton 9.0-2, no matter what settings I was on it was lagging.
Takes forever to load into main menu, and any interaction will instantly crash the game.
Once loaded in I couldn't get a multiplayer game going, and the game felt unstable in general.

Game doesn't run well, but I don't think that has anything to do with Linux (still got over 60 fps)
Easy Anti-Cheat has its own proton version that allows this game to still be played on Linux without having the glaring privacy issues EAC has on Windows.
No tinkering needed. You might have issues with fullscreen initially.
Initially half the game was cut off, and not proper full screen, but rather just a screen size window. Selecting the full screen option a couple times fixed this.
W (forward) on keyboard would sometimes lock if pressed multiple times in a row. This problem was not on controller. Unsure why this happened, and haven't found a fix yet.
My keyboard issues could be a fault on my end, not necessarily the game or its compatibility with Linux.
Extremely laggy.
Playable. Might have some lag in multiplayer.
Sometimes lags in multiplayer
Mouse would sometimes go outside of fullscreen and not be locked in making you tab out and lose a match sometimes
Memory leak
Menus flickering or stuck in certain menus
Switched to Proton GE-Proton9-9
Game has an auto save function that doesn't work on Linux (no manual save options). Everytime you quit out of solo play and go back in you restart from the beginning.
Not responding issues when creating a world. Sometimes would persist past the point where you're able to play, false flagging it as not responding, forcing you to quit out to remove the pop up.
Blurry (Probably TAA). Artifacting shadows.
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES='dinput8.dll=n,b' %command%
You can fix by turning off steam-input. Using XBOX Series X controller (x-input).
Multiplayer works as well; played with friends.
Mics sound terrible
Turning down all settings gets me a stable 60 fps at 4k on a 3070
Runs horribly (can get reasonable FPS to play if reduce all settings very low)
Game would crash every few games and it would take too long to open game again that I'd be replaced instantly by someone else
Can still play casual and have fun with it, but I wouldn't recommend it
Game is only "playable" if you launch it using Proton GE with no launch options, keep it on your main display, and never resize the window.
Resizing window freezes whatever frame you're on, and you have to close game to fix this. Moving to second monitor seems to have the same behaviour.
Full screen=black screen. Cannot close game properly when this happens, and have to use Steam to stop the process.
Quick save doesn't work, but manually saving does.
Game window is named "????" instead of actual title.
On first startup I had the same error message as the ProtonDB review below this one, and when inputting the launch options of the review below it just had a different error message.
I don't know what I actually did to get it working, so I can't even promise it will be playable on your setup, nor do I think the playable experience is worth it.
Got into launcher but starting game does nothing
Missing textures, broken textures, unoptimised, crashes, game doesn't work without GE-9-18.
Missing ground textures. Flickering textures bouncing all over the place. Characters bodies stuck half-way underground.
Crashed early on past character creator.
17 fps at lowest settings with frame gen FSR ultra performance
Works perfectly.
Nvidia, 3070, 4k, max settings - 0 issues whatsoever. Mouse-based game, no native controller support.
Lags when opening map, otherwise it runs fine.
I have my frames sit around 60 on 4K, which for a 2D game like this is really weird. Also when opening the map or any menu it slows the game to a crawl - every single time.
Not common, but some crackling can occur
Some classes are unplayable on controller currently (Merc and Monk)
On a 3070 w/ DLSS performance, at 4k, GI High, everything else maxed: 90 fps; 80 fps in towns.
Need to turn down settings for good performance, but if you getting your settings right for your hardware, it should be smooth.
DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070" %command%
Leon's hair is more pixelated than usual.
Playing around with settings, and playing on a rig that's 3070 or higher peformance-wise, you should have a mostly positive experience.
Sometimes audio would crunch/crackle/distort
Black boxes glitching on hair, pixelation around edges of face. Turning off VRS and turning down render distance/post-processing addressed this problem for the most part, but with forced upscaling you'll run into problems regardless
Hard to say whether it's Linux or the game, but there were some extremely performance heavy sections.
Lags a lot. Crashes when clicking on startup and when changing any settings and clicking apply.
gamemoderun %command%
Extreme lag in cities, and hitching in space areas with enemies present.
Everytime you click when the games initially launching it crashes. Everytime you change settings the game crashes.
Game doesn't even close properly after crashing sometimes.
Works fine for the most part
Borderless Windowed has taskbar showing
Some desync issues and lag on other player models (unsure whether VPN or Linux is causing the issue, or whether it's a problem with the game).
Some issues with borderless windowed not working correctly, and some desync in multiplayer with player models.
Crashed twice, no way to rejoin game.
Works as good as it does on Windows - framerate wise. Less to no crashes on Linux (crashes frequently for me on Windows).
With no tweaks, running recommended Proton, on Nvidia, the game works flawlessly.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% +noIntroCinematics
Mouse side buttons rebinded for melee doesn't allow you to perform combos
Issues with closing the game. Have to kill/terminate it + stop process + close error log everytime I go to close game. Thankfully this doesn't seem to effect progress.
If you're having issues getting to main menu, use my launch options + update drivers + put on SSD + verify integrity.
Some syncing issues, but this is not the fault of Linux, and has existed in all Worms games on all devices.
Changed to GE-Proton9-13
Tabbing out and in made the screen grey. Only functional way to play is windowed. No proper borderless mode.
A lot required to avoid crash at first boss using Protontricks (as others have mentioned). Most installs using protontricks/winetricks just failed, so I gave up.
xinput and steam input doesn't work
crashes at first boss
If you want to play, follow other peoples guides here, but I'd honestly give up on trying to play this on Linux.
