Requires dotnet40 and xna40. Steam seems to autoinstall dotnet40 on first launch, but I had to install xna40 manually.
Works great. Hilarious game.
Slow and buggy
If the window looses focus, then it freezes.
Framerate was pretty low, barely playable
After getting through the first area, the game refuses to finish loading the next area, and I can't progress. This also happened for me on Windows so I'm not sure if this is a proton bug.
As of now, only works on Proton Experimental. Other versions do not work.
It runs nearly perfectly. 100% playable with minimal downsides.
There was a couple of rendering bugs regarding transparency on some UI elements, but nothing that made the game unplayable.
Given the 4X gameplay, framerate doesn't really matter all that much. It runs at about 30 fps, with dips into 15 fps when opening certain menus.
No tweaks required to run. However, camera movement doesn't play well when not in "exclusive fullscreen" mode, and doesn't exactly play nicely with i3 when switching windows.
Was able to see launcher, crashes after clicking Play
Also tried Proton-6.15-GE-2, which did not work
Works pretty much out of box.
If you load into the world without the window focused, the mouse may not be locked, preventing you from looking around. Has a workaround: Bring up the Esc menu, unfocus the window, focus the window, and close the menu. Mouse input should be fixed.
Performance is fine as long as you never enter any of the dungeons. As soon as you go in to one of those, performance tanks permanently, and requires a restart to resolve.
It is a bit janky in general. Not a linux problem.
Kinda rubberbandy.
Palworld works pretty well as is, without any tinkering. Just don't go in any dungeons.
Works pretty well, with the exception of some graphical bugs.
Sometimes, if you switch to another window, some visual effects will flip out and flicker rapidly. They seem to go away on their own sometimes. Epileptics be warned.
Multiplayer works as expected.
Origin seems to install fine, but the game never boots up.
No window appears, nothing.
Extremely difficult to start playing, mostly because Origin, but otherwise seems fine.
Does not play well with multiple monitors. Make sure to start the game on the screen you want to play on. You can't change it after startup.
Starting the game is extremely unreliable. I have only been able to view the initial menu 1 time.
The game starts, but visuals freeze just before showing the menu
The game will start, play audio and render corrects all the way up until the main menu should display. The audio will keep playing, but no new frames will be rendered, and no menu logic appears to be functional.
Lots of flickering, sometimes legs would be bright magenta.
I was in a discord call, and the call's audio quality was being affected sometimes.
Requires launch options +gfxapi VLK
Very playable
If you put the deck to sleep with the game running, and the game was in a pause menu, when you resume the game you may encounter some very minor audio skips. A quick restart of the game fixes it.
If you play without having the game (not the deck) limit the fps to 30 you will have frequent lighting flickering. Otherwise, when locked at 30 fps, there's only some extremely minor artifacts in the water in the fishing minigame.
Plays well @ 30fps
It doesn't seem to play nice with mouse inputs. Clicks seem to be delayed a little bit, so it's impossible to do fast inputs with the mouse. Mouse4 and Mouse5 don't seem to be affected by this. Clicking and dragging is very laggy and frustrating, and as a result, it's very hard to move around GUI windows like inventory, loadout, dialog, etc.
Thankfully, most common actions can be done via keyboard, like camera rotation, selecting dialog options, interacting with objects.
The game is definitely playable. However, it does seem to be a little bit choppy, but the frame rate doesn't seem to fluctuate. Unsure if this is a problem with the game or with proton.
Crashes consistently when trying to land on New Atlantis
If you have an Nvidia GPU, the 535 driver is bugged. See: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/1678#issuecomment-1702489043 You'll need to downgrade to 525. 470 does not work at all.
Stuff that requires you to enter text (like text chat) crashes the game with a cryptic "Fatal error!". Other than that its playable
Flawless experience
Was able to join other games and play.
Game works like a charm.
