Uplay installs and starts up, then the game just shows a black screen and becomes unresponsive.
Go to "path-to-your-steamapps folder/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32" and then rename Borderlands2.exe to Launcher.exe.
Framerate drops from time to time. Despite this, it still performs well compared to its native port and even its Windows version.
Intro video doesn't play at all and the title takes a few seconds to load in the main menu, but otherwise plays well. Haven't tried DSfix.
Like others have said below, everything works except for the brightness slider, making the game way too dark to be playable. Use the xgamma command to work around this issue. The sweet spot for me is 1.4.
Stuttering is frequent unless you disable Esync and D3D11. Performance afterwards becomes closer to that on Windows with slight stuttering when rendering new areas. Shadows flicker and appear blocky on anything lower than Ultra.
Everything works out of the box except for the pre-rendered videos. Media Foundation must be installed in order for them to play.
Intro videos and cutscenes don't work out of the box. They are just skipped so gameplay is not affected. To get them to work, you need to install Media Foundation (https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install). Some steps on how to install it:
- Download and extract the zip file.
- Once extracted, open the terminal in that new directory (be sure mf-install.sh has the "Allow executing file as program" option checked in the file's properties).
- Type 'WINEPREFIX="/path-to-your-steamapps folder/compatdata/407810/pfx" ./mf-install.sh' in the terminal.
Works well enough for me. It keeps reinstalling .NET dependencies everytime I launch the game (could be a problem on my end) but hey, it works.
Like one of the reports below, you have to replace the game's exe in the pc folder with this one: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjAOLXh0xtmCgfAoztroDiFYfd3ooA - Has a few visual glitches and frequent stuttering (especially in cutscenes), but is overall playable.
Startup is slow when you first run the game, but after that it runs perfectly.
Works well for what it is
A Bethesda.net account is required to play with a one-time login. Multiplayer is pretty much dead. The VR portion was not tested.
In both the native version and through forcing Proton, there's an issue with the bindings in that they become messed up when you boot the game up and load a profile or saved game. Just reset the bindings in the options for controls to work properly. Kb+m and an Xbox 360 controller were used here.
Black screen remains even after I skipped the intro video. I tried editing the config file to run in windowed mode and at a different resolution but to no avail.
Everything seems to work perfectly out of the box, though you really should use OpenMW.
Install T2Fix with Wine. It runs flawlessly afterwards. TafferPatcher might still work but apparently it's no longer being updated.
Works great. Only real issue is you might need to enable projector shadows in SplinterCell.ini as the default buffer shadows are broken. That's also a problem on Windows though, so I can't fault Proton/Wine for that.
64-bit version works well despite some framerate hiccups.
Fluctuates around 40-70 FPS with minor noticeable drops.
Many textures and effects render incorrectly and appear as black.
