Force Launch Option to "Linux & SteamOS Launch Option"
To run on Linux:
- do not force Proton
- it will download the native Linux depot
- when running, select "Linux & SteamOS Launch Option" otherwise it will try to run the .exe file and it will fail
To run on Steam Deck:
Valve's verified program automatically selects Proton 9 for this game if you are on Steam Deck. To fix this:
- force Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout) in the Compatibility section
- it will download the Linux depot
- when running, select "Linux & SteamOS Launch Option" otherwise it will try to run the .exe file and it will fail
Working fine. No EAC, so game works 100%
You can use windowed mode by pressing Alt+Enter during gameplay
MANGOHUD=0 %command%
6.4-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Game will not run properly on default Proton, needs GE version to be able to click menus and interact with the game
6.8-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
16 FPS on Ryzen 3100 + Radeon 5500 XT 8GB
Menus does not load, game is unplayable in this state
Game is now playable with latest Steam Beta (CEGDRM support) + Proton Experimental
Opens launcher, but fails to update
Has a Linux version but won't run due to lack of updates.
Forcing Steam to use the Windows version, it runs on Proton-6.4-GE-1, opens a launcher but fails to update.

Launcher doesn't work (black window) and bypassing the launcher gives the screen of the character, but webcam capturing doesn't work and can't change any options. It captures the voice and the mouth moves, though.
Issues persits: game show initial "press start" screen, then immediately crashes
Latest Steam Client Beta + Proton Experimental fixes CEGDRM issue preventing game to run
2 FPS, unplayable
As others said, the new DLC update (Iceborn) broke the game for Linux and Windows 7 users, resulting in 2 FPS gameplay. Report your setup to Capcom and let's wait for a fix.
5.0-rc3-GE-1-MHW GloriousEggroll
Sometimes during cutscenes there is a bit of audio delay
Use this custom Proton version to play MHW: Iceborne on Linux: https://github.com/przmkg/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.0-rc3-GE-1-MHW (contains instructions how to install)
Game will occasionally freeze during inital loading screen, "Unreal Engine"
MANGOHUD=0 DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Massive stutters, seems to be shader compilation but takes too long to start being playable. Changing graphics settings to lowest possible helps a bit.
Intro Valve logo only, then it crashes
Game runs fine. No issues after 10+ hours of gameplay.
After install, first one or two matches can be a bit junky due to shaders being compiled. Games runs 100% smooth after that.
Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) does not start
Game is unplayable because of EAC.
Use Proton 5.10, otherwise game will crash when loading world
Newest Proton 5.0.9 does not work, game opens but screen is glitched. Proton 3.7-8 works fine
Linux version is broken. Force Steam do use Proton and the game works fine. Achievements are working again for all users.
Windows version does not work due to Anticheat and Linux version crashes if you have global Mangohud enabled
If you don't want to disable global Mangohud just to play this game, use this launch option:
MANGOHUD=0 %command%
Stuck in updating screen
Tried Proton 5.10, 6.3, GE, Experimental, all have the same issue. Tried with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% And PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 konsole -e %command%
Game briefly shows a crash window and closes
Tried GE 7-9, Experimental and 7.0-1, same issue
Videos do not play as expected. Possible issue with media foundation or codecs
6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Graphics can "mirror" in fullscreen for the first boot, if that happens, just change to windowed and then to fullscreen again.
If using default Proton, textures will be broken, so GE version is required
Game won't run under Proton due to CEG DRM
More info about CEG DRM not working in Proton: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/753
The game works fine on Lutris (WINE, Steam for Windows).
Works well with newest Steam Beta Client (initial CEGDRM support) + Proton Experimental
Use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to fix graphical issues
Windowed mode is unplayable, game drops to 5 FPS for no apparent reason.

Open initial menu but crashed after pressing Enter
Using Steam Client latest Beta + Proton Experimental now opens the game, but from my testing I can't get past the initial menu
