I don't get how this is marked as "great on deck!" by Valve, but it does not even launch for me. Tried both the recommended proton and proton experimental, neither works.
The store page shows a "SteamOS" icon, but it wouldn't launch without setting the proton to experimental. The game shows a warning message about the sound system not being optimized for Linux, but the latency is not too bad. There were no other issues.
Crashes at launch, regardless of which proton version I use.
Tried the experimental and GE versions of proton as well.
--launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
The launch options are not required, they skip the annoying launcher at the start. I did have to switch to an older proton version because the game would not launch with the recommended, experimental, or GE.
--launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
I'm using around medium graphics settings, which gets me about 120 fps with FSR at highest quality. The visuals look great at this setting so I haven't tried tweaking it any further.
At first I launched the game with the Steam recommended proton version, but at some point the game started crashing on launch. Switching to an old proton version fixed the crashes. The launch options are optional, it just skips the launcher.
The game itself has the occasional graphical glitch or minor bug, but it seems to be mostly patched now. If you have been waiting for the bugs to be fixed like me, the game is good to play by now.
Worked perfectly out of the box
Bumped up the graphics settings, tried with and without FSR2. Everything is perfect out of the box. Not a single issue.
Works great out of the box with the highest settings
The only issue was that the game wouldn't let me use my mouse in the menu at first. I had to go into the settings using the keyboard and switch to windowed fullscreen, which fixed the problem.
The game has very little stuttering when first entering a new area, which quickly resolves as the shaders are compiled.
Logitech F710. Steam Input would not work at all. With Steam Input disabled, XInput mode wouldn't work. DirectInput mode worked, but due to flatpak I had to do flatpak override --filesystem=/dev/uinput:ro com.valvesoftware.Steam
to pass the controller into the flatpak.
Had to change the proton version to 4.x, otherwise works fine. Can't figure out how to get mods working though.
Without switching to 6.3, it wouldn't launch. Once switched it worked fine out of the box, I just had to adjust the screen resolution.
Works perfectly. Tried both with a Steam Controller, and mouse & keyboard.
Frequent crashes which force you to replay large parts of the game
Crashes while the game switches between segments. Crash happens before the switch so you end up having to replay a huge section.
Had a few crashes after playing for 30+ minutes. Switching to Proton GE seemed to fix this.
It's a fun game, and works fine out of the box. I had a couple crashes after the latest patch, but switching to Proton GE seems to have fixed it.
Worked great at maximum graphics settings
Started the game on this account, then joined with a Steam Deck (also running the game out of the box, no tinkering). Worked perfectly.
I wasn't paying too much attention to exactly what framerate I got, but I got something smooth right out of the box, even when I pushed all the graphics settings to the maximum.
I had issues with my mouse at first, I couldn't select anything on the main menu. On advice from others here, I installed ProtonUp-Qt through flathub, installed Luxtorpeda, restarted steam, then picked Luxtorpeda in the "Force the user of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" menu. Luxtorpeda automatically installed the native engine. With Luxtorpeda my mouse worked correctly, and I was able to set my monitors native resolution for the game. Everything worked perfectly afterwards.
Occasional crashes at the highest graphical settings, lowering the graphics settings a bit seems to have largely solved it. Crashes still happen sometimes now, but they are rare enough to not impede gameplay.
Works fine with Proton-GE and lower-than-maximum graphics settings.
Doesn't work even with recommended fixes
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command%
Tried it with and without the launch options, with different launch options, with GE proton and default proton and 6.3-8 proton, nothing works. The game window launches, but is completely frozen.
Perfect out of the box
BLOOD IS FUEL. And Proton is magic. Works absolutely flawless out of the box.
