Perfect
40 Fps Limit
Works flawlessly. Played all the way through without a hitch.
Works perfectly once initial hurdles are overcome.
A couple of pop-ups on first install needed to be accepted.
Default resolution wasn't right. Change to 1280x800 windowed to display correctly.
Controller not recognised initially. Use trackpad as mouse to select "Xbox 360 Controller" from the options menu.
Works excellent following recent updates
I'd read that this game had some issues on the deck but I experienced none of these. Pretty much a faultless experience from start to finish.
Decent overall experience but there are some things which need fixing
40FPS cap
Game launcher with graphics options can be a pain. Caused a crash at least twice for me.
Audio output is muted occasionally. Toggle push to talk in the options and it works again. I needed to do this almost every time I launched the game.
Crashed a handful of times. Cleared proton files to clean this which seemed to help.
Some lag with multiplayer but that's about the same as on desktop
Not a flawless experience. Audio and general crashes are an issue. Works well enough though.
-nolauncher
40fps cap
Linux Native version and Windows version do not share saves with each other.
Game locks up regularly no matter what proton version is used
I've spent quite a few hours trying to get this to work. Native linux version is very unstable so I switched to the Window version via Proton. I tried Proton 7, 8, Experimental and GE. Some versions won't even boot the game and give a critical error, others allow the game to start and run... it runs really well for about 5 minutes then locks up. Some tinkering and other launch options mentioned on here and on Youtube didn't help. I gave up.
Perfect after SteamOS update 3.5
40fps cap
-nolauncher removes pop up Launcher.
I reported previously that I'd had major issues with this game, including perpetual crashes and lock ups.... I experienced none of this after the SteamOS 3.5 update in November 2023. Played the game all the way through with zero issues. Perfect experience.
Ensure Proton is enabled as the native Linux version hasn't been updated in years.
Works very well
Using the touchscreen to drag tiles into position is the easiest way to play.
Launched to a frozen screen
Main menu tried to load but would not display correctly.
Works well.
Gamespy and Punkbuster attempt to install. Just click cancel.
Default resolution was wrong for the deck - changed in the menu.
None of the issues other users have noted.
Great experience on the deck.
Played through this in a few days with zero issues. Med/High settings, 40fps cap with 2 hour battery life. Controls, resolution and graphics settings automatically selected by default worked very well.
Works pretty much perfectly.
FPS cap at 40
Launcher window pops up on start. I used the touchscreen to select the right resolution and change the graphics options to Ultra.
Manual keyboard needs to be invoked to name your character.
Sounds like there were some compatability issues previously but the latest version on Proton runs this perfcectly. If it wasn't for the launcher window and the single time a keyboard is needed, this would be verified.
Perfect experience once you've jumped through the hoop of getting the Ubisoft Launcher working
40fps cap
Absolutely zero issues with the game using ProtonGE once the Launcher was installed via the desktop.
Works well (apart from multiplayer)
Unable to play multiplayer as the game won't let you edit the default player name, even with the popup keyboard.
Controls are a little clunky as the game expects some precision mouse usage to fine tune shots but it's perfectly playable.
Worked perfectly. No issues.
40fps Cap
Works really smoothly out of the box.
Default controller config includes Gyro which I turned off. Invert Y-Axis in the options menu doesn't work - you need to change this in the controller layout.
Low settings. FPS cap at 30. Battery was then around 2 hours.
Controller icons do not display correctly as others have noted. The only fix is to disable steam overlay and run in desktop mode.
The controlls worked fine for most of the game but during the last couple of missions the game would not recognise the steam controller input. I changed mappings and changed inputs in the steaminput menu, cleared proton files and had had no luck.
The game would regularly crash whilst loading the menu. Sometimes I'd have to switch proton versions between the default, experimental and GE multiple times to get the game to launch properly. Once launched and in game, crashes were rare.
I played about 13 hours on the steam deck before giving up. There are just too many niggles that don't make this a smooth experience at all. In the end, I was spending more time tinkering with proton settings to get the game to launch than actually playing the game.
In addition, the game is very poorly optimised and runs the battery hard, meaning the fan is on full throughout (drawing 20w+, even on the menu). Long standing known issues (buttons not displaying) have not been fixed.
I ended up completing the game on my Windows desktop.
Works very well
No issues at all. Finished the game in a couple of days with zero problems.
Works well after initial fail.
Crashes at launch by default and then asks to launch in safe mode. Do this, then change DirectX version in the menu to DX9. Works fine after that.
Great game for the deck
Works brilliantly for me. Medium graphics settings and 40fps cap gives just under 2 hours battery. No issues with performance or controls at all.
Worked flawlessly. Should be verified.
Fixed 40FPS
Crashes with Proton 7. Forced experimental and deleting proton files seems to fix ths.
Some slight issues with crashes when played through Steam. Works much better through the Epic Store via Heroic Launcher.
Freezes every now and then when launched through Steam. Tried different proton versions but no luck.
Copied a community layout from Shadow of Chernobyl the tweak for CoP.
Refresh rate and FPS cap at 40.
Graphics don't display properly with DX11 or DX10. Use the option below those in the menu: "Enhanced Dynamic Lighting"
This game was recently upgraded to "Playable" by Valve but I still could not launch it with Proton7 or Experimental version. GE version worked first time. Graphics rendering engine needs to be tweaked to prevent artifacting (Select "Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting" - not the DX11 or DX10 versions).
The controls are cluncky but community layouts help with that. Totally playable once these hoops are jumped through.
Works very well right out of the box.
Hepburn's layout is excellent. I tweaked the grips slightly. Gyro to lean and the left track pad menu are great.
Fps cap at 40
Really good experience overall. Aiming is tricky but using right track pad as a mouse to fine tune your shots worked well with practice. No stability issues or crashes at all (which is a shock for a stalker game!)
Works but not a great experience
Runs at about 10w but this can be reduced with frame rate capped at 20 and TDP down to 7w.
Crashed once in about an hours worth of play.
Really tough to control without a mouse. Playable though with patience!
Some text is very small
Map is black
Controls are far too fiddly. Text is tiny on the Steam Deck. Graphics issues can be solved with some tweaks apparently but it's not worth it when the the playing experience will still be poor.
Works perfectly
40FPS cap
No issues at all.
Works well with no issues. Touchscreen as input is the best solution for playing.
Controller buttons aren't recognised. Works fine with trackpad for mouse or dragging using the touchscreen.
Plays very well on steam deck.
Controls are slightly clunky as the mouse is needed often. Definitely playable when you get used to it though.
Very occasional crashes but great other than that.
Refresh rate and FPS cap at 40
Text is slightly small but can be enlarged in the options menu
Occasional lockup with restart required. Deleting proton files seems to prevent this recurring regularly.
Worked perfectly for me
Capped FPS to 30
No issues at all. Loaded a previous cloud save from my pc and finished the game without any problems.
Works well. Input is slightly clunky and some text is small but it's definitely playable.
Some text is quite small
Trackpad or touchscreen are the only ways to play. Either work fine.
Works well on deck but is fundamentally broken
Controller is not supported by the game so I mapped keyboard commands to the deck
Tactics command is broken. The game has not been updated in years so this is a known bug. Makes controlling team mate bots impossible.
So it ran great on the deck initially, really smooth and stable but 20 minutes in, it became apparent that the tactical commands menu is broken and this is a known issue on PC. Mapping to different key commands didn't solve it. There is a known work around which involves editing an xml file but after half an hour trying to set up my own controls without success, I gave up and uninstalled. There is a reason this was delisted from steam years ago as Ubisoft know its broken and can't be bothered to fix it.
Pretty much worked perfectly.
You must enable Xbox 360 controller in the main menu.
Worked perfectly once I'd got the controller working. This required changing an option in the main menu and switching to a different community layout.
No crashes and a very smooth experience overall.
