As long as you use DWM and maybe another tiling window manager, it is perfect, but it's broken if you use Gnome or other non-tiling managers
Limited to smaller view 640x480, I believe
The game is basically unplayable on a non-tiling window manager due to drop down menus not working but it works completely fine in DWM, a tiling manager

Makes the locked resolution large enough to play and is convenient as it launches normally.
"/Path to script/script-name.sh"
Had to make a script and save the .sh file to a folder of my choosing.
#!/bin/bash
xrandr --output MonitorName --mode 800x600
"$@" &
wait
xrandr --output MonitorName --mode 1920x1080 --rate 60.00
You can adjust the resolution to 640x480 to make it fullscreen but I rather it windowed so I chose 800x600 the following commands make it a background process and the wait gives it time after the game shuts down and reverts back to my original resolution settings otherwise it tends to cause the odd hanging.
The screen with locked resolution is way too small so downsizing your resolution (automatically per use) is the most convenient way. If you find your mouse is a bit too fast you can try adding these xinput commands examples (or tweak them)
xinput --set-prop 13 300 -1
and
xinput --set-prop 13 300 0
after both Xrandr commands respectively as mentioned by the original poster of this solution.

mapped the hotkeys as well as the speed buttons to the back grip buttons
small text, but not really needed for the most part
for anyone who has played even on a PC... the game will crash if you try and enter the space battles, simulating them was no problem
Space combat background is white
Game runs in a small fixed size window, set Native resolution in OS
Sometimes crashes when you skip the intro movies
Would not run with the default Proton, forcing Experimental and Native resolution makes the game play well provided you autocomplete the space battles. The game only runs at 15 - 20 fps so set refresh rate to 20 Hz to improve battery life.
The resolution of this game is fixed on (probably) 800x600. Cannot be changed.
You cannot open any combo menu. For instance, selecting which ship, building or troop to build or what type of mission you will send a person to. This makes the game unplayable unfortunately.
Although the game runs correctly, it is unplayable due to the fact that the combo menu's do not work. You cannot select what to build or mission types for persons.
Runs at about 10w but this can be reduced with frame rate capped at 20 and TDP down to 7w.
Crashed once in about an hours worth of play.
Really tough to control without a mouse. Playable though with patience!
Works well if you use space combat simulation, using 3D tactical combat may crash the game.
3D tactical combat shows white background.
3D tactical combat may sometimes crash the game.
The bug described is gambreaking if it can't be addressed.
In all drop down selection lists (e.g. mission or manufacturing selections). The options are not loading after the initial load (on first load things worked OK). The window acts like selection list opens (the next click is null no matter where it is applied), but there is no graphical list, nor can you assume where the target would be and click to get the desired outcome.

Broken
The game loaded breifly for about 10 min but no game came up.

The game is running only in windowed mode.

The game starts out with a small window of 640x480 resolution. Setting your desktop resolution to 800 x 600 or 1024x768 before launching the game is the easiest way to handle this. Using Set Launch Options to change the resolution would help but -fullscreen, -w, or -h did not work!

Dragging items in the game causes graphical artifacts to appear. These can be resolved by forcing a refresh of the area e.g. by closing and opening the window again. Forcing the window to fullscreen via my window manager (which results in the game in the topleft corner and the rest of the screen being black) pretty much 'fixes' this.
3D space battles immediately cause the game to crash.
Game has been completed multiple times with autoresolve of space battles.

Game defaults to windowed mode which - seeing as the game runs only in 640x480 - is painfully small. This can be remedied by forcing a fixed resolution via winecfg.
Dragging elements in the game sometimes causes graphical artifacts which really hinders gameplay

The opening videos play, however there is no sound. Main menu appears to be functioning correctly. Single player game launches, audio works properly after video finishes. Most of the game screens appear to work, however the dropdown menu used for selecting manufacturing (ships/troops/facilities) and for choosing mission types does not appear when selected. When a ship battle occurs and I select to manually control the battle, the game gives two error windows: ["Unrecognized error value."] [D3DRMERR_BADVALUE] After this the game closes out.
With these two issues, the game is not currently playable.

Game works fine and without any issues. Just after some time it minimizes. Can be restored afterwards but just appears as a small window with the original solution. Other than that all good.

Occasional minor sound stutter
