Tried at first a heavily modded version with ReShade and some new weapons and skins, but experienced recurring, unpredictable crashes without error messages. With a freshly installed version (via Wine) the singleplayer runs without any issues.
Controller is not supported by the game so I mapped keyboard commands to the deck
Tactics command is broken. The game has not been updated in years so this is a known bug. Makes controlling team mate bots impossible.
So it ran great on the deck initially, really smooth and stable but 20 minutes in, it became apparent that the tactical commands menu is broken and this is a known issue on PC. Mapping to different key commands didn't solve it. There is a known work around which involves editing an xml file but after half an hour trying to set up my own controls without success, I gave up and uninstalled. There is a reason this was delisted from steam years ago as Ubisoft know its broken and can't be bothered to fix it.
The game has to be installed in the standard steam folder (my case under home), on my secondary game disc mounted under /mnt it won't start, similar to GRAW2 and Splinter4
the game runs well, if installed in the right folder - in my case. Not sure how it works out for other people though..
Arguably easier to install on Linux than Windows 10. Plays just as well. Seems to automatically grab your actual screen resolution.
Funny scenario where you want to install the PhysX software during first launch, fully easy - just remember to disable XFire (dead) and the system tray icon (redundant)

game does not start - application load error 2:0000065558
couldn't find any solution to it. Splinter Cell 4 didn't start with a similar issue, validating game files solved it there. Not working for AW
Starts minimized, but otherwise works perfectly out of the box
I found my desktop felt slow when the game launched minimized. I alt+tabbed to get into the game, and then changed the in-game resolution to my native resolution. After alt+tabbing back to my desktop, the slowness had disappeared.
