I got a brief black window, then a crash. Nothing seems to change that. RTX 3050 with a Ryzen 7. KUbuntu.

Further stability not tested

Crashes on startup
I tried various options commented here, none of them work

After a certain tweaks the game in pretty much playable. Remove unimportant save files to avoid frequent crashes.

Game is not supporting higher resloution than 1920x1080. If you want to change to higher resolution you will have to rewrite Steam/steamapps/compatdata/17300/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Crysis/game.cfg

FPS varies depending on sequnce of the game. In some cases I had 200+ FPS and in other cases I had below 60.
At the beggining the game was pretty much stable. Further into the game crashes occured. At the final level "Reckoning" the game was crashing pretty much after 1 minute. To fix this remove save files that you don't need and switch do DX9. After deleting all unimportant saves(at least 100) and switching to DX9 I was able to finish the game without crashing.
You will need to disable ESYNC and FSYNC. Game did not even start without disabling it.

Crashed without warning during a live-rendered cutscene.
Assuming the stability issue I've experienced is resolved, it seems to otherwise run perfectly well.

Flawless in-game performance, but consistent crash-to-desktop upon loading saved games makes it unplayable.
Controller was detected when not plugged in. Keyboard detected as Dvorak (default) even though the game was launched with QWERTY.
Crashes consistenly 1-10 seconds after loading any saved game AFTER the game has been closed and reopened at least once.

Although it requires some getting used to (crashes) it can still be enjoyed (even with Wayland and the 550 drivers), I know I enjoyed it.
The game slowed down every time there was a lot going on in the scene, but it should not have. My GPU/CPU was not even running at full torque.
The crashes were frequent, but they did happen right after the game saved my game, and because launching times were really fast I just hopped back into where I was from. There were 4 times it crashed before saving.
There are major issues without c1-launcher being installed, so I recommend installing it. (https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher) Only with that installed was I able to get into the game and play it. Otherwise it would crash out even with experiemental enabled. My advise will be to take more time to experiment with older Proton versions, I only tried Experimental and 9.0-2.
All in all, the game is really good, it looks really good and even though it did lag while playing it, I still had fun. Some might call that an authentic Crysis experience. The graphics are amazing for 2008. Totally recommended as a title people should play in 2024.

I was not able to play without using C1-Launcher it crashed every time. Also make sure to use the Crysis.exe in teh Bin64 folder otherwise it may not launch

glitching water transparency
occasional (severe) drop in fps depending on scene
crashes very often, but it does depend on the level/scene
Tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions of both the original and the c1-launcher binaries. Also tried disabling e-sync/f-sync. But it keeps crashing. Still managed to play completely through the campaign by quick-saving (F5) often.

installed c1-launcher

Game would crash frequently during gameplay. Using Proton Experimental reduced the crashes, but it would still crash a lot. Didn't encounter any freezing upon quiting as other reports have filed.
Couldn't launch the game without the c1 launcher. The frequency of crashes wasn't enjoyable, especially if the game hadn't saved for a while. Tried other tinker methods in the other reports, but they didn't help at all.

Game occasionally drops to incredibly low framerate and has some serious pop-in issues.
Either freezes up or crashes back to the desktop every 10 minutes or so.

C1-Launcher
Swapped R1 and L1
CryoUtility installed

Works perfectly out of the box
The only quirk is that in order to go above 768p, you have to go into compatdata and edit the game's config file, but this was in the original game

Installed https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher preemptively based on user reports- never tried running out the box.

If you experience crashes, try the different tweeks on ProtonDB, the first one I tried and that helped me was c1-launcher on github.
C1 Launcher helped immensely with the crashes.
I would recommend c1-launcher just for it eliminating the initial load screens. Game loads much faster with c1-launcher. It also helped reduce crashing for me.
Seems to have unplayably bad stutters. Funny thing is, it worked a few years back, but now, any version of proton seems to have problems.
Works fine for a while, and then begins to stutter whenever handling collisions. Every bullet, every jump or land, falling onto things, all cause short hitches of 100ms or more.

Used the c1-launcher (https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher).
It played pretty much flawlessly. Some minor bugs regarding the cutscenes and also minor stutterings between environment changes, but there is a probability that it happens because of my hardware and not because of Linux or Proton.
I spliced Crysis Warhead's 64 bit bin file into Crysis's 32 bit one
I was getting 5 fps on average

Must Alt-F4 and then force close when prompted from the main menu (quit doesn't work)
Only tinkering necessary was because of the pecularities of GCN 1.0 hardware (Vulkan compatible but not officially supported with stock drivers - blocklist radeon to force amdgpu driver).
Replaced default executables with c1-launcher
The game did not work without replacing the executables with c1-launcher, after you do however, the game works great, but unfortunately it does not work out of the box.

After game instalation, hit play to install windows dependecies. Go to https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher and follow instructions on desktop mode.
I tried to run without tinkering to install windows dependecies and the game gets stuck on black screen after installing them. Close it and follow c1-launcher steps.

I've visited PCGamingWiki's article about Crysis and decided to use 64-bit engine for increased stability and framerates by downloading its' libraries and binaries from GOG/Origin version, then unpacking them into the game directory so both Bin32 and Bin64 are present, and then I replaced all exes with ones from this project:

Just run winecfg through protontricks for Crysis and enable "emulate virtual desktop" in "Graphics" tab
OG Crysis 2007 running on the steam deck using a combo of the C1-launcher and GE-Proton7-37
I can confirm I have indeed got OG Crysis 2007 running on the steam deck using a combo of the C1-launcher mentioned here (https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher) and the GE-Proton7-37 (installed using proton up qt). Little more fiddly than i'd like but hey thats what pc gaming is all about :)
It runs well considering the single thread limits of the cry engine 2 - i currently use all settings very high 800p when portable (using 40fps/40hz) and 900p docked @30fps. I found MSAA is just a step too far and tanks performance. Even managed to copy in a modded install from my main pc. It just blows my mind it runs so well on this hardware!
- Installed Origin as a Non-Steam game, and forced compatibility with GE-Proton7-35.
- Lauched Origin through Steam.
- Installed Crysis from my Origin Library.
- Ran Crysis at 1920x1080 (FSR Performance resolution for my 4k monitor); High settings; full screen; AA off; v-sync enabled; all overlays enabled.
- Linux runs Crysis 😎
Q: Does GE-Proton's implementation of AMD FSR work with games installed through Origin using this method? A: Yes 😀
Installed c1-launcher (https://github.com/ccomrade/c1-launcher)

Game runs awful. Lags every time a bullet is fired. Probably related to Radeon drivers, I don't remember this happening with GTX1060.
Game lags hard every time you or an enemy shoots
Crashes often
Game always had performance problems when shooting bullets, and is playable, but it's much worse on Proton with Radeon/RADV.
I'm not sure if the problems that I had were from the game itself or from playing it on linux
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Some audio like mines exploading would not play
In some scenes blinking artifacts
In the last level the game slowed down to 3 fps at random intervals. I had to restart the game to fix the issue because it was happening more often.
I installed a mod to have better performance in the level ascension, it's a common issue even on windows and the mod worked perfectly. I also wanted to install a mod called "crysis enhance edition" but couldn't get it to work, not sure if it's a linux issue.

Game shows black screen if post-proc is set to 'very high', other minor GFX glitches abound.
Game seems fairly stable, but crashes on exit, and needs to be killed.
Origin version; ran origin via Proton. Had to install c1-launcher-2.7 as other people have to get the game to launch. Black-screen on max settings, but game displays fine if the post-proc settings are set to less than 'very high'. Performance is Steam Deck is nothing to complain about.
Need to download and install files to fix game. Freezing on exit and having to reboot will not work for a normal gamer
Download c1-launcher-2.7 from github and replace files in steam crysis folders
Game freezes when you exit to desktop
