Works flawlessly
Using Steam Native (LSI) and SC Controller (to emulate Xbox controller)
Works as expected on Proton 4.11
Occasional audio artifacts can be fixed by pressing Escape.
It's worth noting that Brigand has inherent performance and graphical limitations, regardless of the OS you play it on.
Does not work under Proton 5.0; Proton versions prior to 4.11 were not tested.
Brigand won't launch with DXVK, but WINED3D works without issue
Audio can crackle on changing map, time of day, or character. Press Escape to fix.
Encountered an issue where playing a monster voice causes hard crashes. This can be fixed: https://steamcommunity.com/app/652410/discussions/0/2448217320141200426/

USB mouse input occasionally hitches, or feels like playing at a lower sensitivity/DPI
Use the launch options listed in other ProtonDB reports and on the PCGamingWiki to get into non-Punkbuster, v1.5 multiplayer games.
On Deck, use the following launch options:
+set r_customwidth 1280 +set r_customheight 800 +set r_customaspect 1.6
Adjust FOV and maximum FPS accordingly.
In the Settings, turn off 'Sync Every Frame', and set 'World Dynamic Light Quality' to Fastest.
Using the dhewm3 source port is preferable, a Lutris script is available to install it.

Be aware that adjusting brightness in-game will do nothing. Installing GMDX or Kentie's Launcher is preferable.
For the best experience on widescreen resolutions, install the Visible Upgrade modification. Install within the default wine prefix, enable multi-core rendering from the Tweaker, then use the .desktop file to run it.

Stuttering reduced with GE and shader precache, but performance is poor nonetheless.
+com_showLoadingScreen 0
Used Low settings and Adaptive Resolution when playing on a docked Deck
Install Far Cry 2 Multi Fixer to the bin/
directory, add FarCry2MFLauncher.exe
as a non-Steam game.
After configuring, add the -play
launch option.
Performance on DirectX9 is abysmal. Use DirectX10 instead, and accept the bugs (such as phone calls not working).
As noted in other reports, quick saving and/or enabling VSync during the first hotel scene will enable the following scene to function as intended. Neither workaround is needed when using the Far Cry 2 Multi Fixer.
The 64-bit client works as intended (classes, devotions, bosses, etc.); flickering is present on character models when D3D11 is in use.
Nvidia users no longer need a custom version of DXVK to play without graphical glitches.

Install missing fonts:
flatpak run com.github.Matoking.protontricks 1284210 corefonts tahoma
Switch to GloriousEggroll; increase RAM and/or swap size.
The Steam Deck suffers from crashes that I haven't seen even on PCs with less, equal, or greater RAM.
Use GloriousEggroll, then using CryoUtilities:
- Increase the swap size to 16GB
- Increase the VRAM size to 4GB
This will virtually eliminate OOM crashes.
THE GOOD: Online is functional with 3.16-6. Solid 60fps at max settings, no graphical issues (3.16-6 fixes the artifacting after saving settings.) THE BAD: Controller button prompts shown instead of keyboard prompts (can hold down a key to see the keyboard prompts.) THE UGLY: Camera spins uncontrollably, completely neutering play. Otherwise, this would be a Platinum rating.
Does not work with DXVK.
Frequent flickering.
Some displays in-game (televisions, monitors) are purple instead of a displaying a "live feed."
Follow the ShenmueDojo guide up to Step 7.
When editing run, add the following (you can use also use protontricks/winecfg to set xaudio2_7 (native, builtin)):
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n;d3d11=n;xaudio2_7=n,b"
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC="30" \
If the sound is still garbled, try increasing the latency to 60 or 90.
Finally, add the script to Steam. Works perfectly with the Steam Controller - export your configuration from the base game and apply it to the script shortcut.
NOTE: Patch 2.46 is only available for Windows and Mac, and users report breakages of their Linux installation after said patch. To absolve these problems, use Proton.
Majority of testing done with the Unofficial Patches & Weapon Fixes installed. Runs smoother and faster than Windows.
Open winecfg and change the Windows version to XP: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/567
Replace four files with the "Absolutely Unofficial True Patch Platinum" if you want to play vanilla
- Proton and GloriousEggroll builds do not work.
- Installing mf from
protontricks
does not work. - mf-install does work:

Linux port is borked, a la Coteries
Attempting to run the game under WINE presents mouse input and resolution issues.
Playing with a Steam Linux Runtime (i.e. native) works fine on Steam Deck's Desktop Mode (KDE X11), but not on Gaming Mode (GameScope Wayland).
As the game uses an embedded version of Chromium, it may be possible to set some flags which will allow Chromium to function under a Wayland environment.

Elect to install tweaks on the first run - W:A will not run without them.
The main menu appears in a window, which is cut off at the top and cannot be moved without breaking the view. To solve this, install SuperFrontendHD.
