The game did not work natively for me. Running in Proton with DX11 had graphical artifacts. Running the game with Proton in OpenGL was the trick to get it working.
Turned off the UPLAY overlay and the Steam overlay. Also used DXVK 1.0.3 which has Anno 1800 performance improvements. Game loads the first warning screen and you can see the mouse cursor as well, but a few seconds later the game crashes to the desktop.
It works great now after I disabled the overlay from UPLAY and making UPLAY run in offline mode. Those are the needed tweaks to make this game work.
Game doesn't launch for me and it even froze my system and I had to hard reset my computer.
Tried it with Proton Experimental and Proton-GE 6.16-1.
Tried all the tricks below but nothing works. It starts to a black square and then it crashes.
With Proton 5.0.6 and the launch parameters, I was able to play the game. Does not yet work with ACO, but we are getting there!
I used the following launch parameters:
RADV_PERFTEST=llvm PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% +in_terminal 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +com_skipSignInManager 1
The game in general is fluid, but when I swing my sword, the framerate goes to around 5 fps.
When I stop swinging it goes back to normal. I tried "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE" and "PROTON_NO_ESYNC" but those didn't help.
So the combat basically makes the framerate tank.
See below.
Adding "-dx11" makes the game bootable but upon starting the level the game crashes after loading the map. This was with the demo version of the game.
To fix the crash after seeing the main menu you need to block 2 domains in the hosts file at /etc/hosts
0.0.0.0 see-siren.os.eidos.com 0.0.0.0 see-siren-prod.os.eidos.com
This is needed until we get a new Proton release that fixes this weird connection error crash.
Start the game through BPM and the controller will work properly.
Initially the game did not work. I got in contact with one of the developers and together we made the game work with Proton!
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Ran without any issues with Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF. Did not try the official Proton.
Fullscreen 1080p on my 4K TV would open the game topleft in window-like mode. I fixed this by setting my ingame resolution to 4K and then adding "sg.ResolutionQuality=50.000000" to the group called "[ScalabilityGroups]" in the file "GameUserSettings.ini" at "%APPDATA%/PLANETALPHA/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor".
Run the game first so that it installs all the stuff and after that do "protontricks 444090 dotnet40" and the game will then launch. Online mode works again (EasyAntiCheat).
Game crashes when loading the main menu.
I installed mfplat (although not sure if it is needed for the mp). You do need to use launch parameter 'PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %COMMAND%'. Game starts in DX12 by default so I edited 'res_config.ini'. There are 3 lines there saying DirectX12. I changed them to DirectX11 and the game uses DXVK then instead but this does not help either. This game needs some Proton work.
Rockstar Launcher loads and then dissapears and nothing else happens.
gamemoderun MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Game has a VRAM issue. I got 16GiB of video memory. Ingame I average around 12.5GiB but at some point, my system would freeze. When playing on Windows instead of the system freezing I saw a fatal d3d12 error. I play everything maxed out at 4k. Playing at FSR balanced makes the game use around 9GiB of VRAM and then the crashing stopped.
Proton-7.1-GE-2
Smite has enabled EAC for Proton and multiplayer now works.
I used proton experimental. Works without problems but not online because of EasyAntiCheat.
Proton-6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.1-GE-2
Cutscenes are video's and the audio crackles and the video play's at a slightly slower speed then normal.
When in the ship overview later in the game, you can visit area's of the ship. When going there, there is a loading screen, sometimes it crashes during loading.
gamemoderun ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Needs Proton 6.3-8. With Proton-GE and Proton Experimental there are framedips every 5 seconds. With the specified Proton version the performance is stable.
Waiting for chapter 3 to get into the game, but was able to boot straight into the games menu and ran at 4K @ 60FPS.
Did not do any tweaks, since I do not know how, but after playing episode 3, now that it is released, I can say the game is playable, but I had stutters/lagg every once in a while when playing, even-though my frame-rate was locked at 60. I played at 1080p since running at 4K was only giving me around 45 FPS.
I also noticed shadows where sometimes flickering in the distance and some objects only appeared at certain spots/camera angles.
Still very playable though!
