I had to use the following launch options for the game to play normally: -fullscreen -refresh 60

Works Great
I used a PS5 controller with Steam Input.

Except for the occasional crashes, everything was ok. I could finish the game. It is quite poorly optimised though.

If you're running a non-Steam version, you'll get a black screen after the first scene.
This is because the game cutscenes use Media Foundation, and Proton/GE doesn't currently support Media Foundation in Blacksad. So you will need to download and run mf-install.
A bit of choppiness on cutscenes

stuck on black screen after some minutes
I played it from Heroic Game Launcher by download it from Epic Game Store but it stuck on black screen after some minutes. If I reload the save data it stuck on black screen forever. Any help?

Runs great (PopOS / AMD GPU)
I limited framerate to 60, ticked allow tearing, half rate shading on, limit tdp to 6 watts by default but i think you can go higher.
in-game texts (not subtitles) will be difficult to read in low resolution, in higher resolution it will be fine. subtitles are smooth. you don't need to read the in-game texts since there will be a subtitle for the important parts.
you can see a "white line" in the middle of blacksad's head most of the time in the cutscenes, but i believe it's mostly due to the low graphic setting
restarting the game might cause a bug that causes your controller to be detected in the menu, but not detected in the game. input for qte scenes are delayed. sometimes, the controller auto correct itself when you are trying to move your cursor to a certain hotspot.
some collectible cards are not showing in my first playthrough and only available after i redo some chapters. i believe this is also a bug in the game in general as there are a lot of discussions about it in steam and other console's forums. example: ps4: https://www.playstationtrophies.org/game/blacksad-under-the-skin/trophy/282148-sports-illustrated.html gog: https://www.gog.com/forum/blacksad_under_the_skin/sports_cards steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1003890/discussions/0/3356799628304959689/?ctp=2#c2271447149941720529
played in the lowest setting. to be honest, i was considering to play it on my laptop to use keyboard and mouse just to "fix" the qte and input bug, but the game has no cloud save. some people also reported these bugs happening in the pc version though so it might just be the game acting up. however, you still can 100% this game in steam deck.
RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command%
Runs perfectly fine, no tweaks, no issues
Game runs well, except for the crashes. Because these crashes affect the Steam Deck itself, I can't recommend this
Sometimes when loading a new area, the game crashes the Steam Deck itself. Need to force shutdown
No issues found
On default settings very high power usage (2-3 hours)
- Low graphics
- 30 FPS lock in game (but 60 on Deck)
- Also can a little lower the resolution
Game will still look great, but it will work a lot more (5-6 hours)
Works great
Playing with a Xbox 360 Controller

6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
There are some crashes and some frame skips but it's not due to proton

Runs well except for a frequent missing texture bug and a sometimes audio bug. Still quite enjoyable
In some scenes the dialogues are out of sync or even not present (only the music is playing)
Sometimes a TV test pattern shows up when supposedly a photo/image should show up. Happened quite frequently.

Proton-6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Weird glowing/blinking light inside chacacters
In same areas my FPS would swing from a powerpoint slideshow to 60+ multiple times.
Framerate just swings wild in same areas for no reason...?
Work exactly the way it works under windows (with the exception of the minor artifacting mentioned)
There seems to be a missing animation or texture when deductions are added to your thoughts at this point the game shows a "TV Colour Card" style splash, albeit briefly.

Overall the game ran great with custom Proton, which is necessary for the ingame movies to work
Proton-6.15-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
In some cutscenes the audio desyncs. Small parts of the dialogue are skipped occasionally (using german voices)
In some cutscenes the audio desyncs. Depth of Field is very funky in some places, but can be disabled in the options
In my first few sessions, the framerate would drop to ~30 after playing for a while. In rare cases the game failed to load the main menu. Looking at my systems RAM usage, the game seems to leak memory (using 10+ GB)

Proton-6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.14-GE-2
Works perfectly with Proton-6.14-GE-2, cutscenes and all. Played for an hour or so, did not experience any crashes or any other issues. Occasional frame drops and long load times but I do not know if that's just normal.

As already stated by zepgm_uk's report, after the gorilla brings the cat lady as a client in Blacksad's office, the game goes black. To fix this issue, the Media Fundation workaround is needed. On how to install such workaround, scroll down and read Aninha's report.
I experienced serious FPS drops while changing graphics settings (even if graphics were set to the lowest quality), however, once the game is restarted, FPS were back to normal. I also experienced slight FPS drops here and there, expecially when picking up collectables or while interacting with the UI; I'm not sure if it's due to my rig, if it's proton-related, or it's simply a poorly-optimized game; a bit annoying, but still very much playable.
With previous versions of Proton the game did not quit properly, however with the latest version (attow 6.3-4), the game quits ok.
Verdict: Apart from the hassle to install the mf workaround and some minor fps drops here and there, I completed the game and enjoyed it!
Unplayable, it freezes very often.
Black screen after 15 minutes or so, music still playing

5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Every half-hour or so audio stops working, along with an error-message "AudioSampleProvider buffer overflow." in the console. Often sound starts working again within a minute or so, but often only restarting the game fixes this issue.
FPS got better after switching to "FULLSCREEN" mode.

The game only opened when I used
WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/o id do jogo/pfx ./mf-install.sh
You can download it from this github repo: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install Unzip it and then open a terminal and type:
- cd Downloads/mf-install-master
- sudo apt install wine (in case you don't have wine installed)
- WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1003890/pfx ./mf-install.sh
Start the game, see title screen adjust the screen, and 3/4 through loading if freeze every time. Only hear a bit of city noise
jerky kinematics
need normal graphics and no esynch
Not stable enough to me.
Audio worked fine on first launch, then stopped working completely on second launch.
Black screen when the big gorilla brings the cat lady as a client in Blacksad's office.
Hangs on shutdown, have to kill the process. I can hear the fans racing more and more.

Works very well now, assuming that mf-install has been used to make the videos work. Performance is good, controller is good, game is good!
mf-install is required for videos otherwise the game will hang after the first scene.

Works well for a little while, then fails completely.
Option screen sometimes has a black background, otherwise seems graphically fine
A savegame loaded in a weird state
Hangs on shutdown
Game goes to a black screen after the first gameplay section, though in-game menu can still be used!
Seems like a really interesting game... the bits that did run ran well. :)
