Runs out of the box.
Played the first mission and loaded into the second one. Only crashes on quit so far.
Runs out of the box.
One time I had a slow down in a mission, maybe due to scripted event. Did not happen again.
Played the training and the first 5 Mission from Stars and Stripes. No issues so far. Only interested in the campaign, so I did not test mulitplayer.
Used Proton after trying native version.
Native version was unplayable. Proton version runs out of the box and has better frame rates.
%command% -vulkan
Without Vulkan game does not start.
First rounds performance was pretty bad. Game showed 350+ fps but had bad hick ups which made it barely playable. Used parameter (+fps_max 144) to limit fps to refresh rate of monitor but I am not sure if it is still need.
Game is pretty enjoyable with theses following optional parameters: "%command% -vulkan -nojoy -high +fps_max 144 +fps_max_menu 144". Only -vulkan is needed to start the game.
Runs out of the box. Vulkan is optional. Sound tweaks needed if using voice chat with an external app.
%command% -vulkan -nojoy -high -sdlaudiodriver pipewire
Map loads much quicker and gamplay is much smoother than CS:GO
If Steam runs through Flatpak the sound in CS2 does not work if you are using Discord or any other voip app. Used flatseal to grant Steam access to /run/user/1000/pipewire-0
and -sdlaudiodriver pipewire
as starting parameter.
Runs out of the box
The game runs pretty stable on Linux Kernel 6.9.2. I had massive issues with Kernel 6.8.9 before, where the game crashed frequently on start or in the first minutes. Thanks to the one who figured out the issue is related to Above 4G Decoding or as it is called Above 4G memory / Crypto Curency Mining in my BIOS (MSI). One time after 2 hours of continuous gameplay, when I left Copelands camp new textures and game objects did not load. I was not able to reproduce this issue.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
Switching to desktop or another application kills the game immediately (i.e with ALT-TAB)
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 might be optionally. I recognized better frame rates with this options when there are fire graphics around. Did not try the game without PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
Copied xlive.dll to Windows folder.
Micro stutter
Game might crash sometimes. This also happened on the Windows and XBox 360 version.
Copied xlive.dll
to .../SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/22370/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64. Otherwise the game does not start after Launcher.
Changed / added two parameters for more stability to .../SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/22370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Fallout3:
bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2
To fix audio issues set xaudio to native, builtin: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%
HUD text is flickering and sometimes hardly readable. Some clipping errors.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 might be optional.
Use this guide to limit FPS: https://www.reddit.com/r/wine_gaming/comments/8dcr40/is_there_any_fps_limiter_that_works_with_wine/
Runs out of the box
Some text flicker mainly in the menu.
Tested the game on the LCD Steamdeck which is limited to 60Hz. Due to the 60fps cap there a no slow down when a soldier gets injured. I had only one time sound distortions after wake up from suspend. Gamepad buttons are shown as 1 to 16. Used this Guide as reference.
One of the best out of the box experiences so far
The game window freezes when connecting to a server and pop-up might be shown. The game still connects to the server and shows the briefing room after up to 30 seconds.
The game is still in Early Access and I played the community branch most of the time. I had no technical issues so far and performance is descent on dx11.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi,d3d11=n;ddraw=n,b" %command%
Mouse sensitivty is pretty slow even on max.
When activating workshop beta installing D3D11 mod is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b;d3d9=n,b;dxgi=n,b" %command%
When on foot I had artifacts like reflection of a disco ball. These got fixed by activating AntiAliasing with DXVK. Needed launch options to be included: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b;dxgi=n,b"
Subtitles were faster then people speak. The game felt out of sync sometimes. Main issues were resolved by installating [Fusion Fix] (https://github.com/ThirteenAG/GTAIV.EFLC.FusionFix). Needed launch options to be included: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b"
Next I created a dxvk.conf in the GTAIV directory added these lines:
dxgi.maxFrameLatency = 1
d3d9.maxFrameLatency = 1
d3d9.maxAvailableMemory = 8192
dxgi.maxFrameRate = 60
d3d9.maxFrameRate = 60
dxvk.hud = "fps,gpuload"
Lastly I created a commandline.txt in the same folder:
-nomemrestrict
-norestrictions
-percentvidmem 100
-availablevidmem 8192
-noprecache
-reservedApp 0
-managed
There was no need to give the path of the dxvk.conf in the launch options. Using the commandline.txt seems better readable than having all in the launch options aswell.
Played HW1 until mission 5 without any issues and in HW2 I finished the first mission. Runs great so far.
Gearbox logo sound looped.
Needs EAC to run out of the box
There were no issues using Steam overlay to accept invites from friends.
Installing Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime is mandatory. This can be done in Steam with a few clicks so I do not consider this tinkering. Playing the game with high graphic settings works pretty good. In the first matches I had issues with textures did no load while traveling over the map. Changing the amount of memory in the graphics settings reloads missing textures instantly. In the last matches the issues disappeared or were hardly recognizable. Sometimes texture streaming is a little bit delayed but does not affect the overall performance.
Textures partly load a bit delayed. It is much better than with Proton 8.0-2 where they stopped loading at some point during a match. Objects moving through water have some black gloss around them. This is unusual at first, but not too distracting.
When changing to new area there is sometimes a barely noticeable frame drop.
At the first start, the game crashes as soon as the Steam overlay is opened. On second start, it runs with Steam Overlay stable.
In very rare cases EAC disconnects the match during loading screen and the game has to be restarted. When playing in a group, I was able to rejoin the game that was started.
The fact that no more textures are loaded in the middle of the match is quite annoying and makes it sometimes more difficult to recognize anything in PvP. Therefore, I can only recommend Proton Experimental until there is an update on Proton 8.
Some assets missing (i.e. guns) or animations miss transparency (i.e clue revealing), sometimes the screen flickers.
Some issues mentioned are also seem to affect the windows version as well. Just played Soul Survivor for know and had some rubber band network issues. The game is playable and (technically) enjoyable.
Fullscreen mode is borked but still playable with workaround
Mouse is note correctly captured in fullscreen. When clicking on in the menu a window in the background (i.e. webbrowser, file manager) gets into focus and shows up.
When starting the game in fullscreen on GNOME 45 I have a black bar on the top and the mouse is not captured like mentioned earlier. My workaround is to switch to window mode by adding Fullscreen=0
to [...]\SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1084160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Jagged Alliance 3\LocalStorage.lua
like:
Options = {
[...]
DisplayIndex = 0,
FullscreenMode = 0,
GraphicsAdapter = {
[...]
},
The game start ins window mode and with the key combination SUPER+ENTER the game shows like in fullscreen and is fully playable. If you loose the focus (i.e. tabbing out of the game) you reverted to the window and need to repeat the key combination.
Technically runs out of the box, broken video playback makes it hardly enjoyable
The game uses MP4 and WMV video files for ingame animations. A test image is shown instead.
Sometimes the game freezes after character selection
Trying with Proton GE (9-12) instead of 9.0-2 there are less test images seen in the game but the main dice roll animation is still broken.
Shaders are not correctly drawn on the models. This has no impact on gameplay itself but breaks the immersion.
Without VSYNC enabled the player gets frequently stuck and only jumping solves this temporarly.
Shader issues are pretty annoying and I did not find a way to get around them. When using Proton 7 or newer the game hangs at start screen. With an older version the game runs stable having everything on max settings.
Runs out of the box with Proton. Steam Controller works fine.
Tried the native version first but I had input lags with mouse and keyboard and my gamepad did not work at all. When using Proton there were no issues at all. Gameplay feels like the way I remeber it on Xbox 360. Did not test vanilla Overlord.
Runs out of the box with Proton.
On borderless fullscreen I got a black screen when returning from Alt-Tab. True fullscreen has no issues when Alt-Tab to desktop.
Runs better with Proton than with native version.
Graphic setting are on maximum and in runs flawlessly.
Runs out of the box.
My graphic settings are between medium and high.
Played several hours in 2 player co-op. No network issues or slow down.
Runs out of the box.
The first time I started the game, it ran windowed. Once it was switched to fullscreen, it kept this setting.
The game crashes once in the first 30 minutes. Afterwards it is pretty stable.
Starting parameter: PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
Used DXVK_HUD=1 to check Vulkan performance in the beginning.
