Changes need to be made to /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to remove crackling. May need a reboot.
Some save games will not load. Save frequently.
Slower framerate in some parts with all gfx settings maxed. Remove complex water and dynamic shadows.
Proton 7.0 or Experimental fine. But needs to be played in Stream Offline mode mostly or you'll get a permanent loading screen at start.
Needs Proton for audio. The more recent stable version the better; older versions spike CPU usage.
Minor white artifacts on some of the cards. Doesn't detract from play. Hopefully it'll be fixed in a later update.
No audio without Proton.
Works perfectly with Proton 6.3 - also I had to add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch commands.
Game needs the command
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
added to launch options.
Works with v1.03 [MULTI6] as below. Thank you very much, Vortex Acherontic. Still a great game after all this time.
Sometimes weapon firing is glitchy, but no big deal.
Works really well. Needs Proton 6.3 otherwise towers won't work. Also using this proton version significantly speeds up loading times.
Works very well indeed with Proton Experimental. Failing that, 7.0-6, but experimental gives better performance overall.
Setting the launch options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% and running Proton 4.11-13 it runs perfectly.
Works now with launch command as given and GloriousEggroll 6.21-GE-2. Proton 6.3-8 is too slow.
Proton-6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
"PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" in the launch commands [without quotes]
Unplayable.
Bought this on the strength of the below review from ArtoriasPC, but the outdated Ubisoft launcher won't connect to any servers for me, even after an update.
"Unknown AMD processor."
Unplayable.
Fine if you're OK with playing it in a small window.
Only works windowed.
Changes need to be made to /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to remove crackling.
Needs the rtcw package installed from the Debian repos. Screen res needs to be set in the wolfconfig files and set r_mode to -1.
Crashes after the tram level. wolfconfig needs to be deleted in order to proceed [will autoregenerate, you'll have to reset the widescreen res etc though].
Game won't launch. Complains of Vulkan drivers not being installed even though they are. May be an OS issue.
Works perfectly [for now] with Proton 6.3 and PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% in the launch options.
Works out of the box. An amazing game, so fluid and beautiful to play.
A little show to connect but perfectly workable.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
On install you'll initially get a black box. Just click the middle bottom for English and then press return, it'll advance you on. Note that you'll need an extra ~20GB of additional space AFTER installing from Steam. I previously had missing ground textures, but these went after upgrading the GPU.
Might have audio issues with crackling, but I have adjusted my /etc/pulse/daemon.conf for such so no problems. Runs flawlessly otherwise.
Thanks to Warren for the missing music/NPC dialogue fix. Works great otherwise on this hardware.
Missing music and NPC dialogue
Missing audio fix:
- Install winetricks
- From CLI, browse to the steam "compatdata" sub-folder and then go into the sub-folder (72850) for Skyrim
- execute "WINEPREFIX=$PWD/pfx winetricks --force xact" [without quotes]
Haven't got round to modding properly yet, this is with vanilla saves imported from LE :)
Works perfectly but you need to use Proton 6.3 if you want to mod, since Mod Organiser 2 will not work with proton 7.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
Occasional stuttering
Launch command needed to fix stuttering audio in Proton 6.3.
Black screen on launch. Pressing space/return/esc does nothing.
Launches but the control system is horrendous. Not worth playing like this.
Runs smoothly and looks great, though next gen content should be turned off.
Missing and glitchy texture when next-gen content is enabled.
Lighting not working correctly, and looks too grainy fullscreen without patching. Playable but not attractive.
Framerate drops on higher gfx settings, but the game still looks great and is very playable at lower settings.
Could not bind middle mouse button.
