Stutters a bit
In SpaceEngine/config/main-user.cfg.. Change "CoreContext" setting to false
It crashed for me otherwise..

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink %command%
Has graphical glitches in native OpenGL mode, works very good with OpenGL -> Vulkan layer.

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
If you run into the error: "Critical error: Your system has an obsolete OpenGL version. seLoaderThread::CreateGLCoreContext(): Can't find a suitable pixel format: code 0xb7"
Navigating to "~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SpaceEngine/config/", editing main-user.cfg, and changing CoreContext on Line 33 from 'true' to 'false' fixes the issue.

Set CoreContext in main-user.cfg to false

With some twinkering it should work but I'm just testing it without tinkering for people who don't wanna do that :)

NVidia OpenGL out of date message prevents launch
If you use Wayland, Setting CoreContext false in main-user.cfg works and the games launches.
force_gl_vendor=X.Org gamemoderun %command%

Unable to load the game
Game crashes during load time with the message: "Your system has an obsolete OpenGL version. [...] Can't find a suitable pixel format: code 0xb7". System is up-to-date.

Critical Error: Your system has an obsolete OpenGL version.
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
seLoaderThread::CreateGLCoreContext(): Can't find a suitable pixel format: code 0xb7

Using Proton 9.0-3. Works perfectly fine on Arch (Xorg) with Nvidia GPU. No need for configuration or aditional config.
Just download and play

Some minor stuttering.
I tried running it out of the box and it failed to detect my hardware, popping up a box saying that my system is too weak to run the program. I switched to Proton Experimental and the message went away. Otherwise, it runs pretty well.

Change graphics settings to be above lowest and low, but below ultra
Game crashes frequently on Ultra graphics setting, but appears to be fine below that. It is completely playable on the High graphics setting without crashes.

Crashes upon any attempt to move around
Once you actually enter the universe, any movement has the potential to crash the game. This makes the simulator essentially impossible to use.

This is not a game of course but a simulator. Still if you love space then it is a must have!
I used Proton Experimental and once in game I disabled VSync and it worked perfectly with no crashes at all

Aside from the inevitable stuttering, SpaceEngine runs surprisingly well on Deck at Medium settings with some tweaks :3
Mapped Start button to Escape key
Capped framerate to 40fps
Some menus can be hard to read

unless you find brightly colored squares amusing, this game does not run well without either patching or massive amounts of tinkering
rainbow colored squares all over the menu transparency effect, and random color squares before game crashes
minor stuttering
game fails to detect my hardware and starts with a dialogue box saying that my hardware is too weak to run the game and does not meet the minimum 3GB of VRAM requirement, my hardware has 16GB of VRAM for reference.

Effectively unusable, will crash every 5 minutes
sad to see this is effectievely unusable with proton in its current state.

This game is not a game, it's a simulator! A must have for Astronomy. Only the Bugs has to be solved.
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV MANGOHUD_CONFIG='full' /usr/bin/mangohud --dlsym %command%
Saitek X52 Pro & Thrustmaster T.16000. I have the Saitek under suspicion.
It runs flawless until i use the zoom function. 60FPS at 4k but on zoom 5FPS.
I believ that zoom mode get the game unstable.
Zoom has to be fixed somehow. One time i lost control and i had to restart the game. Running in the background is also suspicious if not crashing.
Besides that a wonderfull Simulator for Astronomy.

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
Occasional Texture Flickering on Planets

I had set fractional scaling set to 150% in Display settings. Setting it back to 100% fixed performance issues.
I'm able to play in Ultra settings.
There were some issues with textures not loading on small objects, but it appears to be a platform agnostic bug
force_gl_vendor=X.Org gamemoderun %command%
When launched without the launch options, will fail at compiling shaders. When launched with the launch options, will run flawlessly. Remember though to delete the shader pre-cache in Steam settings if you launched it without the args.

Added menu and system browser binds
Some lighting effects seem to be split in half
Very much intended for mouse and keyboard AND gamepad, not gamepad on it's own. After a few keybind changes it seems perfectly fine. Shouldn't be "unsupported" if you ask me.

Runs perfectly, no issues

Constant 144hz frames
Truly perfect right out of the box!
Proton 7.0-2
Changing Windowned to Fullscreen takes a little time, but nothing tragic. Overall great experience.
Works just fine again, was broken before for me
Runs perfectly - even better performance than on Windows
For some reason, menu cursor is inverted in vertical axis with vive controller
Only lags if i go near black holes with tons of light, but that's expected given my hardware
(Reported experimental version: Proton-experimental)
edit main-user.cfg and set CoreContext to false
Went smoothly w/proton experimental; better performance than I experienced in Windows, even.
Worked perfectly
Need to edit main-user.cfg and set CoreContext false
I had to edit main-user.cfg
and set CoreContext
to false
