Does not launch
Tried Proton GE, Experimental, 7, 6.3, 5.13, and hotfix - no compatibility layer works.
MANGOHUD=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 PROTON_CONFIG=dxr11 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% -skipStartScreen -dx12
Using DLSS to upsample the reduced rendered resolution to the native screen resolution will give you a performance gain over rendering directly at the native resolution. The game looks stunning.
Borked for weeks now
Game doesn't start, tried many launch and all compatibility options without success. When the launcher is skipped the game "flatlines" and asks to send a crash report. When the launcher is not skipped, the launcher window is totally black. Already tried the files integrity and the same thing was happening on both Ubuntu 22.04 and 22.10.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_LOG=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr12 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 %command% --intro-skip --launcher-skip -skipStartscreen
Previously I had issues on the 510 driver that were seemingly solved by upgrading to 525.78. Game runs smoothly above 60fps on 1440p with DLSS and Ray Tracing.
Update 2.1 borked it
%command% --intro-skip --launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
Game does not launch. No proton version seems to get past the cyberpunk animation when the game starts, just showing a black display after it.

Crashing more often after the 2.1 update.
For those whose game is crashing after the "Cyberpunk 2077" intro: if you're using the "no intro videos" mod, you might need to download the December 6, 2023 version (or later) from Nexus, with v2.1 support. That solved this issue for me, unfortunately, the game still crashes often after a few minutes of gameplay when RT and DLSS are enabled. Maybe this will improve over time.
Game starts (technically), but everything is black.
Just a black screen, no menus visible. I can hear the menu change and even start the game -- I hear the cutscenes and the environment when you start playing -- but nothing is visible at any time. I tried the following options, individually, without success:
protontricks vd=640x480
PROTON_NO_D3D11 = 1% command%
Occasional stuttering.
Some screen freezes: 3 times in 4 hours. Engine/audio seemed to be working and commands were responsive, but couldn't recover from the image freeze. I was forced to terminate the game when they happened.
Minor stuttering issues in some scenes.

Not mature yet
Performance is terrible, even slower than in other platforms. Currently getting ~20fps at KSC on an RTX3080 and Ryzen 5900X, making it barely playable.
Crashed in the first launch and a few other times. Since this is the launch day I didn't have much time to play it yet.
I was unable to control the rocket after take off even after adding aerodynamic sufaces. Unsure if due to lack of rocketery skills or due to the performance issues affecting controllability.
The game is very bare bones, performance needs to be improved a lot before others can join it - at least on Linux. And still, KSP 2 seems to run slower to me than for others. The fact that lowering the graphics doesn't make much of a difference hints that something else is happening.
That said, this is just the first day and things might improve quickly from now on, so if you're an enthusiast, consider trying it yourself.
The total lack of audio was the biggest problem, but that doesn't seem to be affecting many. Other than that I was able to finish the game.
%command% -skipstartup
No audio at all: menus, music, voiceover, graphic novel cutscenes, sound effects. It's totally muted to me, even with the popular audio fix applied.
No widescreen support (game looks stretched), and high frame rates may cause some animation bugs, most notably the bullet time jumps are low and don't reach far, so you may want to cap it to 60fps.
%command% -skipstartup
I'm running on a Ryzen CPU, so I had to change a DLL in order to avoid the JPEG errors when starting the game. Just browse to the game directory and run the following command: printf '\x90\x90\x90' | dd of=rlmfc.dll bs=1 seek=$((0x256ED)) conv=notrunc
.
That will replace 3 bytes in the position 0x256ED. Some guides point to position 0x256E0 instead, I guess they modified this DLL at some point.
Wide screens look stretched, as usual with older games.
The slow motion jumps don't go far with high frame rates, I haven't explored how to lock the frame rate at 30 or 60 to avoid the problem.
Wine 8.20 fixed borked audio:
Some 1 second-long freezes, especially when rotating the camera too fast.
Rudder controls with the Thrustmaster T.16000M pedals are detected by the KDE Game Controller, but are not detected by MSFS. Only toe brakes are using this controller. I could not find a solution for this, as the operating system seem to detect it.
Added `-FastLaunch` to the options, worked pretty much OOTB in full screen. Rudder and ATC issues.
ATC audio missing.
Thrustmaster T.16000 rudder pedals don't work properly, only left/right brakes do, but rudder movement is not recognized.
Feb 2021 review.
- Launching
Added -FastLaunch
to the options, worked pretty much out of the box in full screen. No significant bugs. Using Proton Experimental and latest proprietary NVIDIA driver as of Feb 2021 (460.39).
- Controls
Using Thrustmaster T.16000M, throttle and joystick were recognized by MSFS. Pedals are connected to the throttle and all interactions are detected by KDE Game Controller, but the rudder movement does not work in MSFS, only brakes.
- Issues
Significant and apparently irrecoverable FPS drop (5-10 fps) if game window is resized during game, or in game menu. Able to resize it in the initial loading screen. ATC voice does not work and menus behave strangely, but still usable. Real time weather seems to work fine.
- Performance
I am using a dual-monitor setup, so I manually resize the game window to span across both displays and get to play in 6000x1440 (3440+2560 x 1440) on an RTX 3080, everything in ultra at 60fps or above in clear skies and high up. At this resolution, I have experienced lows down to 10fps in large cities, at night, and with bad weather, but in general it has a really good performance, being above 30fps at almost all times. Significant FPS drops in busy places and under bad weather are not exclusive to Linux.
ATC audio missing
Logitech Thrustmaster T16000 pedals' rudder not working (toe brake works).
It seems to work again with Proton Experimental. See https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4134 .
Now to download the slim 122GB update...
Unable to load the game
Game crashes during load time with the message: "Your system has an obsolete OpenGL version. [...] Can't find a suitable pixel format: code 0xb7". System is up-to-date.
Using the --launcher-skip
option to bypass GOG, then choosing between DirectX 11 or 12 in the launcher configuration:
{Local Game Files}/launcher-configuration.json
Missing graphical options, such as ray tracing and DLSS. NVIDIA HairWorks does not seem to work either.
Unfortunately DX12 freezes when loading the game. DLSS and Ray Tracing are never available options, perhaps an environemnt variable is missing. FSR seems to be available when in DX12, but the game rarely loads under DX12 and the few times it did, it wasn't stable. NVIDIA HairWorks is available in both DX11 and DX12 but does not work properly.
Launch options:
mangohud %command% --launcher-skip
Game won't start.
Tried GE, Experimental, and the default - the game does not start.
The game does not start, default and experimental proton both fail silently; proton EasyAntiCheat (EAC) Runtime is installed. Proton GE complains that "Uplay PC" could not be found, but the installer never attempted to install it.
