Unplayable high performance demands
The latest update (10. May) broke the game, but the forum has solutions to fix this. Personally it worked for me to replace the prelauncher file with the one from the update before.
Replaced dxvk
Using Proton-GE-7-55 was perfect, but Once Human makes it impossible to use it anymore.
I had good experience with upgrading to Mesa 24.2.3 that reportly fixed Once Human. Then replaced dxvk to the offical version using protontricks. It's now playable to the point that I get 60 FPS under 70% GPU load (under FPS limit), just like with the older Proton version. Nevertheless, Proton-GE-7 was still better. Under this newer Proton version, I get small FPS drops when loading new textures, but it's minor and otherwise really playable.
My start parameter is only:
DXVK_HUD=gpuload,devinfo,version,compiler gamemoderun %command%
- [Optional] DXVK_HUD for checking if dxvk is loading and the GPU load
- [Optional] gamemoderun for activating gamemode
For me, both changes (Mesa and dxvk replacement) were necessary. One change to fix the black textures and the other to fix the 100% GPU load.
Other solutions like
- DirectX 12 with vk3d by changing
Once Human/Documents/GraphicsSettings.xml
had graphic bugs and ran awful. - Using Proton Experimental again had 100% GPU load, but again replacing dxvk using protontricks fixed it.
Game runs perfectly fine with mods (using DLLOVERRIDE) and private multiplayer. Only gamescope is recommended for issues mentioned
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wsock32=n,b" gamemoderun gamescope -f -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 60 -- %command% -skip_intro
Brightness slider only works in fullscreen -> Fixed with: Gamescope + Fullscreen
Registers mouse clicks even when not in focus -> Fixed with: Gamescope + Fullscreen
I got some crashes, but these happen only after I added mods and do happen on Windows too. Using 'The Fixes' mod, appears to reduce them.
The brightness slider is known to work only in fullscreen mode, but there I got mouse clicks even if the window is not in focus. Finally adding gamescope fixes both issues.
Works perfectly unless you enable the heart rate monitoring. Then it crashes. Deleting the compatdata folder fixes it.
Crashes if you enable heart rate monitoring in the settings
No audio on launch if option 'mute on unfocused' is activated. However it works if you enable it after it launched. If you had it enabled, uncheck it and try to minimize it.
Rarely no keyboard input after window switching. Workspace switching fully solves it.
Joining tournaments can end up in a 'checking in' loop. The best is to join a private match or free play. This often results in refreshing the result and joining with the complete party.
Restarting the game or making another player leader could causes glitches.
Works great out of the box. Only in the beginning there were a few frame drops likely related to shader compilation.
Great mini game although the background video files visible in windows don't play, because of missing support for the Hap5 codec.
Slight stuttering when loading video files
Runs great, but the bots are really stupid (better in Vermintide 2). The community modpack doesn't work on Linux, only the workshop does.
One you get over the EAC untrusted you dialog, you will enjoy the game without any further issues.
In order to skip the dialog, you can use untrusted launch option, but then it wont save your progress on the server. For me it fixed itself when selected the modded realm and launch it at least once.

If you get stuck on the "Preparing to launch dialog", then reset your compatdata folder STEAM_INSTALL/compatdata/552500, or rename the edge update exe inside
pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft/EdgeUpdate/
Some fps drops, but could be cause of old hardware
